I love how calm you are behind the wheel. Even when you're pushing or driving quickly you're incredibly composed and calm. You even take your hand off the wheel to gesture now and then. Its truly a pleasure just to watch you drive, and usually I couldn't care less.
***** a head chief at porsche said its coming in 2017/2018 based on the new models that have just been revealed this week which are all turbo charged. www.motorauthority.com/news/1085067_new-911-gt2-coming-says-porsche-exec
ssllhh100 weather proof? You can drive a gt3 rs in bad weather as well. Just make sure your TC is turned on and that your right foot isn't too heavy lol
+teamracing07 Koenigsegg only pretend to make cars. Occasionally they fashion something together and "sell it" to a "customer", but it's never really a car, it's just a fashion statement.
Malc180s Pretend? I don't get it. They make the best hypercars in the market. Even tho they are a small volume company! They've sold over 130 cars by now. What's your point?
Watched this again for the first time in 4 years. What a great car! What a great video! ...and some great driving thrown in for good measure. Made my lockdown day, thank you 👍
man this gt3 is every thing to say about what car should have it got ever thing to love it it absolutely astonishing and that 9000 rpm just unbelievable thank u evo
Amazing car! Amazing engine! I'm a bit afraid that the next generation GT3 will be turbocharged. But even if it's going to be that way, I'm sure Porsche will make one hell of a engine.
+bmwm3captcha In the GT4 video with Andreas Preuninger, he actually said that they will keep the GT divison cars naturally aspirated for a long time to come
The RS badge should always deserve a manual transmission paired to it. The Cayman GT4 is a manual only, so why not at least have the OPTION for one in the RS?? Its meant for hardcore race fans that like taking their Porsche to the track often... I'm hoping that they at least give a manual option for the GT2RS, if not for both it and the base GT2!! That would be sweet!!
Seriously guys, this is the best 991 yet! What the hell is there not to like! A 4.0 N/A engine that makes a noise that the 675LT, Ferrari 488 and the GTS AMG cannot hope to match. The GT3 RS should easily provide enough evidence to why there's no need to buy a Turbo S anymore. Just as fast, looks way more fun, sounds so much nicer and is £11,000 less. And it's half the price of the McLaren. Evo Car of the Year 2015 for sure!
I appreciate this is an old comment and we now have the benefit of hindsight. It's a shame they were never £11k less really, more like £100k more once the preferred first owner made their tidy margin on the RS. To be honest I see this result from the opposite point of view. There's no point in the GT3 RS if the Turbo is just as quick (and more practical, more seats, more comfortable, faster on the road, safer in the wet, don't look like a tit with a huge wing on the back when you are picking up a takeaway, etc).
So ... take the wheel tires of the GT3 RS and put them on the Turbo S, mod the PDK so it has the same ferocity gear changes, and (for the giggles) lower it to the same height. What would that do to the lap times ? 2s faster?
I got to drive the 991 GT3 (base) and the 991 Turbo (base) at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta around their driver improvement "track" for 2 hours. I was expecting to prefer the turbo, but that car might as well have an Audi badge (nothing wrong with that). The GT3 was a far better car in every dimension. Better seating position, better sight line, better steering, better sound. It makes you feel like a real track hero by letting the rear end slip 9% before tucking it in gently for you. I can believe this car is the best if you're talented enough to handle a cup car but want one that is street legal.
did the same and the turbo surprised me as far as how good it was on the track.......bought a GT3 and then traded it for a Turbo S as I needed a daily driver which the GT3 was too much drama.........wish I could have both.....
Keep in mind that this was done on different days... I wished gt3 rs edged the turbo, but that just shows how great the turbo is. Either way if I had to choose, its simple GT3 RS for many reasons.
+the b biddim So Porsche's are better because they don't give two shits about lap times? I may be a huge Porsche fan and I agree with you, but LMAO what a pathetic statement. That's like saying Samsung is better than Apple because Apple fiddles with the iPhone 6 and Samsung doesn't fiddle with the S6.
+e-hybrid 919LMP1 Now that IS a daft statement! Comparing the Ferrari mechanics setting up and fine tuning a car to suit a track to get the best lap time out of it with Apple developing a new phone! Lol
Mark Balfour Apple does the same thing. The reason they get higher profit than Samsung is because they fiddle with the software when they give it to the media to review it. The thing that's pathetic about your statement is that you're basing it off Chris Harris' article that was written 6-7 years ago. 6-7! And I'm surprised that people are still delusional about it. I am a massive Porsche fan but too many people jump on the bandwagon. It makes Porsche look like a god.
ewt415 So what if Ferrari still haven't stopped? Does it mean that we can base our argument off Harris' 7 year old article? The stereotypical Ferrari hater would base his/her argument off Harris' article. I'm surprised nobody insults McLaren for doing the same thing.
Just imagine if a company like Sharkwerks did a manual conversion on one of these...that would be interesting. Would probably make the car skyrocket in value even more than they already have.
+anotherone10 Pfaff tuning in Toronto has actually taken a Carrera S with a 7 speed manual and spec'd the power package, Trofeo R tyres, Bilstein suspension with full PASM, Techart body, roll cage, etc. and created a car they call the "GT3 Alternative". Check it out. It looks INCREDIBLE in person. It seems to sit even lower than a GT3
+anotherone10 Unless they make it is into a car or spend a million on it I am not sure if they would get much better out of it. Obviously this is in terms of cost.
Thanks Jethro but a collossal thank you to the sound guy who nailed the audio. Even though Jethro was talking us through the car...that soundtrack in the background/middle ground/foreground reminded us that; If Satan is real, then this is his daily runabout.
I recall many users here commenting "imagine what the GT3 RS will do!" in previous videos. I wonder if this met their expectations. I personally thought the all-wheel drive grip of the Turbo S would be hard to overcome, especially Porsche even stated that they will not be making a GT2 since rear-wheel drive only version would make it slower than the Turbo S, despite having a power increase.
Well done Jethro, i´m waiting for the 675LT, K One to 1, 488GTB, GTR Nismo, New R8 610hp, Lambo Aventador SV and Corvette Z07. All of them equipped by MIchelin Cup 2 Tyres or Pirelli Trofeo!
Another great video As good as the rs is there are problems with it and the Biggest one is they all sold out and people that got their orders accepted are asking silly money for them But the other way of looking at it is this that how good the new turbo s is It's as fast as the rs and much more usable plus you can actually buy one
I know this is a few years back but after having looked at a few of his recently Jethro Bovingdon is one of the best reviewers out there! Him and Steve Sutcliffe on Top Gear would have sorted it out!
Jethro was right, the biggest difference was the Cup 2 Tyres on the RS, put them on the Turbo and it will go even faster. I get the impression he was on the edge with the GT3 RS (hence his spin in the outtakes and comments about it being more edgy) .....the lap time looked easier to extract from the Turbo S....... they are both master classes. On the downside the standard GT3 sounds better to me, and what happened to the 458 Speciale ?????? (Not even close!)
+Mo Pedley Yep, it sounds better to me as well. I love that manic noise of the 3.8 on the last 500 rpms! The RS revs lower, so it probably loses the sound of those last rpms.
+Hear That? Well Porsche fanboy; 911 is all about rear end traction; engine behind the rear wheels, huge rear wing and to top it all off; massive tyres to exploit all of that weight and downforce. Anglesey is all (mid speed) corners, it suits the 911; get them both to the Nurburgring or Spa and the 911 RS will loose.
+Hear That? Seriously, you gotta stop making our favourite car maker look like wankers. I may be a huge Porsche fan, but too many people jump on the Porsche bandwagon, and when these people start pissing all over Ferrari or McLaren, it makes Porsche look bad, it ruins the beauty of Porsche's.
+Hear That? The 991 gt3 rs is 5 minutes old too. Anyway different tracks suit different cars. An audi would do really well here thanks to quattro but it may not do as well (relatively) on other courses. I just don't understand the special tires run to save face for mclaren. Waiting for a time to be run for the 918 on some near slick race tires...
I've always wondered what it would be like if Porsche took the 991 Turbo S and gave it the GT treatment... It would be an absolute track animal. AWD, torque and hp like you wouldn't believe, lightweight, PDK, amazing looks.. Maybe someday they will.
silviu bahnovei The 918 Spyder is an entirely different car, I would be surprised if there was one piece the 911 and 918 have in common. Nice try though.
Although i like more Ferrari nowadays than Porsche (and trust me, it was the complete opposite few years ago), huge respect for the engineering under that body-shell of the GT3 RS, both GT3's and Turbo are amazing cars. My only doubt is, which one is the most expensive ( between the RS and the Turbo S, i mean), can someone tell me?
both are very similarly priced. Correct me if im wrong but the 911 turbo S might be a little bit more. if I had the money though, the gt 3rs would be the one :)
+Tobi Ogunsanwo lol, all Porsche fans forget this little fact :) ALL fast Porsches need a huge wing, AWS and AWD (Turbo S). Porsche throws everything on these cars to make them fast. Can you imagine a huge ugly wing on the back of Speciale? Of course it would be much faster but also ugly. Not the Ferrari way to make cars fast.
GT3 RS is fenomenal and it is just above the Turbo S on this circuit, like Jethro said, because it had only Pirelli P zero, if the Turbo S had the GT3 RS tyres it would have been much faster, again, on this circuit, every car has strong and weak points. Turbo S with street tyres is a big win in my opinion, can keep up with an RS that had semi-slicks, that is pretty big.
I would take any of those cars.. 0.6 second difference with a million different variables, temperature, tires, temperature of the tires, fuel load, driver error.. I can go on. Both cars are in the same ballpark and they're both gorgeous and amazing in their own right.
the title says 911 but the title before it shows the car is 991 so which is it is it a 911 with an upgrade or is it a 991 in its own right separate from the 911
No the code 991 997.1 997.2 996 corespend to the generation of the 911 it's no varaint variant it's what you call a model like the 911 991 gt3 Rs which is the 911 of the generation 991 but also is different from thee 991 Carrera S
I never understood the low momentum on this model since it's roots. porsche literally had to design a chassis to build around a rear engine car which yes It can corner very well but very sketchy on straights.
I love how calm you are behind the wheel. Even when you're pushing or driving quickly you're incredibly composed and calm. You even take your hand off the wheel to gesture now and then. Its truly a pleasure just to watch you drive, and usually I couldn't care less.
Both the Turbo S and GT3 RS faster than a Speciale? wow just imagine what the GT2 RS will do

+Emanuele Polimeni Really?.... :(

The Turbo S is probably overall best 911 of the 991 gen IMO
it depends on what you're after. It is the fastest in straight line and the grippiest one as it seems, but it isn't as fun as the GT3/GT3 RS
+Nik Brudar its weather proof , you can't beat that , less fun better than no fun

that is what i call no fun

Yay! Finally a full review from Jethro! Love the GT3 RS. And Jethro did justice to the car by driving it like the way its supposed to be driven.
Nice job by Jethro as always. I'm still waiting EVO for the Koenigsegg One:1 video review that you should've posted months ago?
+teamracing07 True, still waiting!
I heard there's a track version of the One:1. Koenig Von Koenigsegg needs to lend Evo one!

+12345qwert911 you are outdated
+armourdaddy805 the one from the gt3 not the rs
I would love to see the Turbo S once on Sport Cup 2's, I think its mental then....
Chris Harris is drooling over this.
Am I the only thinking that lap could have been much cleaner and faster?
But still, Jethro is the man we all are waiting for on EVO. Well done!
Love that Lava Orange paint.
Watched this again for the first time in 4 years. What a great car! What a great video! ...and some great driving thrown in for good measure. Made my lockdown day, thank you 👍
GT3RS has 500hp and beats the Ferrari Speciale that has almost 600...Porsche FTW
i love the surroundings of this circuit... also it seems like it does not rain as often there as in other places in UK
Great review Jethro, love the outtake that shows the cars true character on the limit. Tks.
You guys are the best. Awesome video as always.
Great review. Welcome back Jethro. Keep it coming

Exceptional review, Jethro in his best!

Hariz Hafi The video talks about the GT3 RS, you'd be so dumb to think I was referring to the regular GT3, if you can call any GT3 regular.
Great video of a great car. I love how it leaves the driver speechless and laughing. Thanks!

variant it's what you call a model like the 911 991 gt3 Rs which is the 911 of the generation 991 but also is different from thee 991 Carrera S
Track = Tie. Straight line = Turbo S.
+sham shan only this track with that driver
I never understood the low momentum on this model since it's roots. porsche literally had to design a chassis to build around a rear engine car which yes It can corner very well but very sketchy on straights.
