- "Balanced" on release. Strong after buffed. Absurd with leg-mod. Let's give it a superheal next, eh?

Finally someone who seems to be on the same page, not deluded about "weak" battleships in this game. Certainly since the leg mod update, Colombo has become S Tier for me. Despite lacking overmatch, it feels a lot like Vermont when you get a broadside you can cit.
G4ng seems to think so as well.
@@BruderRaziel it's also the complete lack of anything approaching skill required to play this thing. At least Vermont requires gamesense for positioning and hands for aiming. Colombo is just oogabooga sap spam drool from mouth 150k+ DMG every game. Also the 20degree guaranteed pen angles of the SAP means you effectively feel like you overmatch any armor under 97mm.
Release Colombo was probably B tier randoms, after buffs A tier, now S tier with legmod. I bet we can buff it some more.
@@hagostaeldmann I remember bunch of games trying out the freshly released Colombo, complaining half the match about "what a shotgun" it is, then I look up and the counter is closing in on 200k. That´s when I realized I might have contracted braindamage from one or the other battleship streamer regarding my expectations. It´s also the time when I started more consistently not sucking in BBs... funny how that works.
@@BruderRaziel lol i know waht you mean, it's one of those ships where you think "man i'm having a bad game" and you're at 150k at the 13 minute mark
The unpaid actor cruisers when it's the Colombo's turn to get inspected: "I'm tired, boss."
@@timur_glazkov play worcester or san martin into this thing lmfao
Small correction at 16:43. AP splash damage will follow the 1/10 rule, but the SAP will do 1/6 splash damage instead. In fact, your SAP does 1/10 damage on direct hits, so it is "better" to not hit the sub directly (which in practice you cannot do either way), leading to very funny damage numbers against subs.
I played Colombo before the buff and the leg mod. Ppl were telling me not to play it cuz its really bad, as well as big brain streamers. I absolutely disagre and I was surprised by buffs, cuz the ship was great even before. I've been enjoying it ever since I researched it, like a year ago. I even put steel camo on it. So my fav BBS are Kremlin and Colombo. Next in line of "don't play it's bad" is Republique, and I have a feeling I would be enjoying that one as well. In short: Ignore what the community tells you, play the ship and if the ship suits you, have fun telling them how wrong they are.
1) I actually got to be on the same side in a match w you driving the Columbo...we won.
2) I appreciate your analysis and commentary on the matches...Fbombs and all. -THE_NIBZ
Idk if you take requests, but mecklenburg would be cool
Alright say it with me
Columbo should have stayed irrelevant
Sap is broken
Sap is broken
Sap is broken
I hate this goddamned ammo type
You take massive hits from every angle
Sap is broken
(Alright I think I’ve made my point, legitimately if they gave a +50% debuff to turret traverse and -25% to sap shell alpha damage it might actually be enough for the legmod)
I tested C.C. With leg. mod.: worst salvo 8k , ordinary: 12-16k and good super good salvo: 29k (all were done with SAP). Don’t forget about smoke, good armor, best firing in the game angles 21-23 .
So, yeah, C.C. is nuts 😅.
@@smaug9617 one of these games I had 5 salvos on yamato/satsuma for over 120k dmg lol
Colombo has faster SAP than AP, yes. And it's got lower shell drag than Montana, so the speed advantage increases at longer ranges. Your SAP is 1s faster than Monty AP starting at ~15km, and hits 2s faster at ~23km.
Also, I think the proliferation of 360° turrets is another example of WG's "QOL creep" (see also, 30s turret traverse and 16s rudders on every new BB). It's effectively a turret traverse buff, letting you switch broadsides with ~90° instead of ~270° when angled in. It also means brain-damaged players can't have their turrets on the wrong side of the ship because they didn't pre-turn them before turning the ship.
Mostly I'm just salty about the lack of the historic cost; spacing turrets so they can rotate 360° should require a longer cit and longer overall ship, but for paper ships instead they just space them out towards the middle and remove more superstructure to make it fit (which is *also* a buff ingame, even though ships had superstructure for a reason IRL).
I think the issue is partly that they tried to buff the QOL of the ship to make people like it (rudder and firing angles), but still nobody likes slot machine salvos. So they give up and buff the accuracy... but didn't revert the QOL stuff. It'd be less busted, even with current legmod, if it was clumsier with poor firing angles, and thus at least sorta a "I can farm you consistently, but I also get farmed consistently in return" situation.
I find it funny I LITERALLY RESET this line before all the buffs came recently fml.
I've been getting games lately where some have 4 or 5 DD's and the next has 1 or 2. One or the other the majority of games lately.
I disagree slightly at 30:37. While Colombo's UU is a very lazy, pure buff, I would say that GL's is instead a UU that is required to make the ship fun. The airstrikes are still mediocre, but at least you can somewhat spam them now, instead of having half-assed guns and half-assed airstrikes. GL has so many downsides, that I would say its UU, even if it's not as interesting as it could have been (imagine if they focused it on allowing you to ACTUALLY pen BBs, etc.), is justified in being a "straight buff." So yes, GL is in fact more interesting to play with the UU, since you can actually focus more on using your gimmick.
Can we have a Russian BB?
This ship just goes to show WG have no balancing department.
Wouldn't a better solution be to nerf the pen angle on the sap? Or nerf the sap some other way? Nobody is upset that the Mecklenburg is accurate. Nobody thinks Meck is OP.
@@rocketfishx3474 I'd say that should be a basically mandatory START, giving SAP something like 15/30 instead of 10/20 angles but still...its not going to balance it. Ultimately it's the fact you cannot overpen that makes SAP disgusting.
I guess at least its AA is bad? But I don't really like Carriers being the solution here either.
do a random battles commentary on schlieffen i swear its unplayable rn
@@banhbaothit1629 I hate Schlieffen mostly because I'm not a fan of zero input ctrl lmb gaming it just isnt fun to me

No it doesn't.
@@Brezzanater it technically doesnt overmatch 32mm but I think I get what you mean. This SAP is overall easy better than 32mm overmatch AP
