Great video. I was getting annoyed in ranked dealing with either mouthbreathers BBs who couldn't kill anything, or mouthbreather DDs who wouldn't spot anything. So, what T9 battleship spots for itself and is good at killing BBs and cruisers? Kearsarge! I'm a much worse player than you because I barely have hands, and I ended up going 14 wins and 4 losses (at least 3 of which were star saves) to finish up T9 ranked over the weekend. This thing is fucking busted in ranked. You brought up a lot of this, but just to reiterate why it's so fucking cracked, especially in ranked: 1. You bring spotting. The other team does not. You pointed this out, one side gets plane spotting, the other doesn't. This alone won me several games. 2. The spotting is amazing. You can hover over a DD until you're down to 1 plane, then you just go into attack mode. The DD is spotted the whole time you're hovering, plus the 5.3 seconds it takes you to launch rockets, and then the climb time. If your team can't hit the DD during that period, you're saving your star at a minimum. 3. 12 North Carolina guns with slightly improved accuracy. It lights serious fires at long range, it spanks cruisers who go broadside or stop nose in. I slapped an Adatara for 17k and a kill in the nose at close range. Amazing firepower. 4. You can maneuver while the planes are out. Use shift+x or ctrl+x to set your guns to a side or aim at a point on the map. Either lock the throttle/steering or use autopiloting while you're using the planes. (Just watch out for autopilot at the map edge - it shits the bed.) 5. The planes do fucking sick damage. I've gotten 17k regularly against cruisers and BBs that are broadside. I've hit a DD that figured I wouldn't be able to lead him with rockets for 8k. 6. You pointed this out, but you can weave the planes in between salvos. You've got the base 35s reload, and you can get those planes out and locked in a mid range strike while losing barely any DPS. It's just free damage and fires on top of the already very good guns. 7. Almost impossible to citadel. You'll get punished at mid range while going broadside because you'll eat pens, but it's very hard to cit, especially at close range, and long range shots will bounce on your flight deck. Might as well bot out and get 12 guns on target. 8. You can finished off nearly dead BBs and cruisers before they heal. You spot and attack them with planes, chunk them, and then get a salvo at them. If you can aim, you'll finish them. 9. If it's you vs only DDs, in any other battleship you'd auto-lose. With Kearsarge those games are easily winnable.
While watching this video, the thought of getting a hybrid tickled my mind for the very first time. I don't want to do it. I think I'll feel dirty after.
What's funny is that the Hildebrand hype has almost completely died already. You had a day of them being more than half of all the T10 cruisers in the que, now you barely see any. It seems like everyone just kinda realized it isn't actually that broken. I'm almost disappointed cuz farming those ships in my Malta was hilarious- Hildebrand's AA isn't necessarily bad, but when they spend half the game stationary and the other half on autopilot they're a super easy target.
I think the issue is not simply a Hildebrand. The issue is when each side has 1 cv and 2 Hildebrandt. The amount of unintentional spotting on DDs and CLs is straight up infuriating because it prevents you from making better plays. the Hildebrand player probably doesn't like it as well because he has a 60s cooldown on weak planes, and blegh guns on the other hand. Currently there are way fewer Hildebrandts (probably because it's a bad ship), which makes it much more tolerable. It has as much game impact as a yoshino on it's lonesome. Doesn't die, doesn't do enough damage.
I think it’s widely known that hybrids are broken, the reason why I think people are so mad at hildebran in particular is that there is less seen counter play as you CAN usually shoot at kearsarge (even if you do zero damage) because it’s more incentivized to actually show itself to have more battle impact. Hilde usually just sits behind a rock all game and even if it’s just a bit better than kearsarge at farming damage in that aspect it can also just force cross fires faster with the torps. That’s just why I think the community is mad at this ship in particular, I’m not going to argue which one is worse because it’s like arguing if Stalin or H*tler was worse
there is objectively more counter play to Hildebrand. You can angle to its guns which are mediocre, it has no armor, and the planes are WAY easier to shoot down than every other hybrid. there's no situation where hildebrand has less counters than kearsarge/louisiana except if youre in a dd and it bombs you the idea you can counter kearsarge by shooting at it...because its guns are so good it will voluntarily show itself...well you summed up that nicely didnt you

Two additional advantages of the Kearsarge over the Louisiana: 1) you get the Tier IX credit bonus 2) you can run Halsey on the ship without having to respec or transfer the captain. Saves a ton on commander XP
Lol loisiana is faster, smaller, better plane use at close range , good secondaries, better guns with better reload. Bad part is you get gk gun angle at stern turret which shows hos bad gk is btw.
While i understand your approach that "suddenly it costs 50k and the cc mob comes out of the woodwork to shit on hybrids" but i think its sorta flawed, not wrong or a bad observation but just kinda strange Personally i think its people realising that planes are become too prevelant in a game called world of warships and that hildebrand was the straw that broke the camels back. they never do that, it averages 2-6k, maybe every 20 drops you do 8-12k, thats still dumb but it uses those planes on a dd MAYBE 1x each game mostly because their true value is 15-20k guaranteed bb drops....people just clutch at so many straws to justify crying about hildebrand and not the bb hybrids...louisiana is SIGNIFICANTLY difficult for destroyers to deal with than hildebrand, in every way they're ALL stupid and shouldnt exist. but no matter what your goal in a hybrid is (spot, fuck dds, farm damage) hildebrand does all things worse than louisiana/kearsarge

A few things: Hildebrand is more hyped because it's T10vT9 (Louisiana is stupid but it's not as stupid as the rest) Hildebrand is more plane focused which naturally makes everyone upset Torp planes are the best plane squad so Hildebrand has better planes for that reason alone Keksarge is still better because Battleship diff. I don't think anyone would dispute that though Also Defence is still fucking busted, so much so that I can't play Marseille anymore because I'm too busy cursing the guns despite the fact that I used to love Marseille I would say that Hildebrand is stupid but still a little overhyped, I would say anyone saying that it's "the most broken ship ever" is exceptionally dented when they literally just brought out Libertad.
I think the 60 second reload on the torp planes, which lets you toss planes out on cool down basically, especially if you're playing poorly and just using the ship like a backline carrier cosplay, is a big reason of why people think the Hildebrand is so op, because the ol' deep seated carrier hate means that more planes = more op.
basically the CCs overhype the Hilde( and the lose all your resources event) so that people rush into spending 50k dubloons on a stupid ship that has better already existing alternatives

460mm only overmatches exactly 32mm, you would need 544mm worth of gun to overmatch through to Kearsarge's cit. At that point you're basically firing torpedoes from your main guns.

Likely only causing a full pen of damage depending on where it hit.

I bring a Kearsarge into T9 ranked at all times. The amount of people talking crap that it’s a terrible ship is hilarious.
The thing Hildebrand has that makes everyone call it overpowered isn't the torp bombers, it's the dive bombers that can hit a DD for 15k
