I’ve never met Chuck. But I’ve met and did a seminar with Benny.
He exemplifies a humble martial artist and emanates positivity and good energy. Although his skills, speed, technique even at his advanced age was amazing, I was even more impressed by the way he teaches, he’s so patient, so deep and resonant with his words. Great man.

I grew up in Panorama City in San Fernando Valley, California, where Benny's family had their studio, and they were very nice people. They let me and my friends hit their bags, and we had no money to pay. They never kicked us out. Benny was a very humble, quiet guy. I was like 13 years old, and I watched him kick the heavy bag, and it would hit the ceiling. He had amazing power. A man of few words. I have always admired him and his skill. Amazing man without a doubt. He is one of a kind. Chuck Norris is also one of a kind as well as Bruce Lee. All humble men.

There was a captain on our department that I worked on an overtime and swing with. We hit it off and I guess he liked me. He talked of rooming with Chuck Norris during college and sparring with him. The response from me was always a polite nod and maybe a "Wow" over coffee in the kitchen.
When "Walker Texas Ranger" came to Dallas/Ft Worth he ended up in charge of coordinating OT for when department resources and he got me multiple OTs assignments, most of which were driving lights and sirens up and down streets.
One episode involved our department involved in the story arc. Once I got the unit backed in where they wanted it and the rest of the crew [There were two full "crews" that were extras that day] the captain wanted to introduce me to Chuck. When he waved and yelled, "Heeeyyy " I began to see him in a different light.
Then after Norris shook my hand and greeted me with a smile, he looked to the captain and said while pointing his finger, "You're looking at one of the few to ever beat me in a fair fight." 😳

I’m a practitioner and a fan of Traditional Martial Arts, MMA, Boxing and a lot of fighters who participate in those platforms. Bruce Lee was one of my biggest influences and I know his legacy has made huge contributions to movies, fitness, Martial Arts and pop culture. However, I never understood the hostility that some Bruce Lee fans had towards Chuck Norris when he said that Bruce Lee’s kicking was influenced by him when they trained together.
Especially since Chuck Norris was an Elite Martial Artist and his legacy has made huge contributions to Martial Arts, Pop Culture etc. Bruce Lee trained and trained with a lot of people, that’s why he was knowledgeable and consistently evolving on multiple levels. He maintained a Student Master attitude and that’s why he’ll go down in history as one of the most influential people in combat sports. I was also a huge fan of Sensei Benny The Jet! Tom Bleecker helped me get Benny’s bio personally signed by the Jet himself. I treasure that book even though I’ve never met him.
Even my Muay Thai coach (back in 1986) said, without hesitation, that Benny was one amazingly tough hombre - and he didn’t rate anybody!
Benny’s fights on video were passed around between the students and treated like bricks of gold.
Thanks to Sensei Benny. His book Training And Fighting Skills were a big influence during my formative years,

Met Benny at the weigh-ins in Vegas > 30 years ago - when Juan Torres won the light weight title. I mentioned having Benny's book, and he just asked what I thought about it; what I liked vs. didn't like. I told him the nutrition portion wasn't that exciting to me, and he said, "Yeah," he had that feedback from others too. He was willing to just chat, but I felt guilty about using his time and excused myself. Later, I was at the after-fight party: Benny was there; Stan "The Man" Longinidis; a couple actors (like Richard Roundtree); Chuck Norris was in an adjoining room. A line instantly formed when the food was brought in, and a lady (I don't know who she was) didn't move fast enough and was uncomfortable to try to squeeze in line where she was at. Benny was one of the first in line (closest to the food), so after he filled his plate, he just handed it to the lady (with zero fanfare), then picked up a second plate and filled it for himself. I was personally embarrassed/humbled (like, I think, every man in the line who didn't offer her a space). Benny was the coolest/humblest guy I had ever met. I've had fun training with a number of really good folks, and another guy who I thought was very "cool" (didn't just kick my ass - which he easily could, but rather let me try things) was Rico Rodriguez. Most awesome coaches have been Greg Holmes and Kim Marquardt - just wanted to give them a shout-out.

Some people who are good social dancers have a similar perspective, they're willing to be a total noob learning a new dance style and eventually there's a synergy that can happen when similar styles can combine and fuse. They have to be willing to go back to be a beginner for a while and sometimes unlearn techniques learned in the other styles.

Richard Norton! As a kid I was first introduced to Mr. Norton in the great Hong Kong films of the 80s and 90s that would play on late night TV, like USA Up All Night and other places. Those are the movies that made me fall in love with him, Jackie Chan, and Cynthia Rothrock. I could never remember Norton's name back then, but I always loved seeing him because he was so great at playing (usually) the mustache-twirling bad guy, AND fighting like a madman with his amazing, super-tight, flawless kicks. I had no idea he trained with Chuck Norris and Benny the Jet. That's so cool!

It has been a while since I have visited your channel and watch your videos and for that I do apologize, I have just been busy with my own art in the music industry and other projects that I have going on but I am on break right now and wanted to stop by and watch a good interview or whatever new topic that you had going on. Love this bro, this takes me back, miss those days with the greats like Chuck, Benny, Richard, Jean-Claude, Don Wilson, Cynthia Ruthrock and yes Steven Seagal, growing up this was my Avengers or Justice League, they inspired and a young kid back then watching these really talented Martial artist on the screen, it was magical, they all in their own right had something special, and theirs more. I will relive those movies and those days forever and forever. I have 4 kids all girls and no boys, but I have passed this passion of the arts along to my daughters as well, I am no martial arts master, I have only trained and studied in boxing, tae kwon do and karate, I never competed and that was my choice because i took a different path because i had a stronger passion for music but I have been working on incorporating martial arts in with my music, i wanted to write and create music that would get people motivated and pumped, but training and learning martial arts have been some of the keys to my own success because i had motivation, it learned how to respect others and myself, i was able to combine my mind, my body and my spirit so that they could find balance within one another. Even if you don't compete or become a martial arts action star, learning it and continue to do so is still rewarding and life changing. Good stuff my friend...
