- In this video, you will learn to Install Windows 10 on Mac External Drive (SSD, HDD) without creating a Bootcamp partition. You can install Windows 10 on an external SSD to use with Mac computers.
To install Windows 10 on Mac Using External SSD you need few things -
1. An external SSD.
2. USB flash drive
3. USB A to C connectors or a USB C hub.
4. A Windows PC or Virtual Windows on Mac.
5. External Keyboard and Mouse.

You need to download the WintoUSB tool - www.easyuefi.c...
Windows 10 ISO - www.microsoft....
Convert your flash drive and SSD to exFAT format.
Install Win2USB tool and make SSD bootable using the tool. (Do it on Windows PC)
Connect SSD to Mac.
Restart mac, press and hold ⌘+R to enter the recovery mode.
Allow booting from external media on the Macs using Apple's T2 security chips.
Restart again and choose EFI boot.
Connect Mouse and Keyboard.
Follow on-screen instructions to install Windows 10.
Install the Windows Support Software from USB flash drive and you are good to go.

I had tried to use this method to install windows 11 on my USB4 external drives. It allows you to by pass the TPM2.0 restriction, as the windows is already pre-installed before you open it on mac. However one problem is that windows 11 installation require internet connection when you first open, I overcome this by pre loaded the drivers in the WindowsSupport folder while the WinToUSB is installing. This way when I opened up, the WiFI driver(also other drivers such as keyboard and mouse) is already installed, so I can safely activate the system and start using it. For some one who failed to load the drive, you could dry using a ethernet to USB-C adaptor to connect to the internet while you set up for the first time, and then you could get in and start installed the boot camp setup in your USB flash drive.

I am trying to Install the latest Windows 10 onto an external HDD installed in a USB Caddy and it all works up to the point that i am installing Windows on the Mac Mini then it will not allow me to install it onto a Drive connected via USB what's the difference between SSD and HDD is they are both connected via USB?? If tools like Tuxera/Mounty is needed then I'm stuck because these tools are slow
You need to format the SSD as exFAT, this way it will work on Mac & Windows.
@@sandeepsingh18 I know but as you’ve shown in the video. To achieve an uefi windows boot it must be formatted as FAT32
@@rosanoor To achieve the UEFI the disk should be GPT. The EFI partition should be FAT32, additional partitions can be FAT32 or NTFS even in the GPT disk.
To answer the main question - You would be able to read/copy the Windows SSD data on Mac, but can't copy from Mac to Windows SSD.

Hi There. I used this method to install a older version of Windows 10 with no issues, however windows update will not let me update to 20h2. I have tried everything to force the update, including an in-place upgrade. Nothing seams to work as windows setup can't decide if my Mac is compatible. I had a similar issue when updating to 1709 but managed to find out that windows update knew that it was installed on an external drive (I got round this by changing the registry by turning portible device to 0 and windows update continued). This doesn't appear to work with 20h2, so does this mean that I will have to reinstall again with a later iso? TIA

I tried this with my iMac, but the wireless keyboard and mouse doesn't show up and there is no Bluetooth icon after the installation. I have looked for it both in the right hand corner and also in the settings, but it doesn't seem to find it. And no network either. I have tried to repair the installation 3 times, but it's the same problem. Really strange. And it looks like other people have similar problem.
Did you install Windows support software? If yes, then try it installing 2-3 times, weird but worked for many.

Connect your storage device to one port and external keyboard to another port.Use tab button in external keyboard to navigate.

@@sergiorsuarez I had the same issue and fixed it by choosing Windows To Go USB, the picture of usb stick with windows icon, in Hasleo WinToUsb (and not windows installation, which gets you stuck at that error when trying to install it)
Everything worked up to the point where I am trying to download the drivers, my MacBook air intel3 downloaded till the same point as yours, but instead of getting stuck I get a blue screen: There was a problem with your system and a forced restart. once it's restarted no drivers we re downloaded and same thing happens again... This isn't an error but file system incompatibility, you won't be able to copy Mac data to SSD.

Bootcamp drivers not working (keyboard, mouse, internet etc...)? Try this. Open Device Manager. Usually everything installed incorrectly will show up in "other devices" and will have exclamation marks inside a yellow triangle. One by one right click each and click on "Update Driver" then click on "Browse my computer for drivers" then "browse" again. From here find where your "WindowsSupport" folder is, this has all the drivers and you will have to do it manually. (WindowsSupport is the folder you dragged into your newly made "WinToUSB".) Once you find the "WindowsSupport" folder click it and two more folders should appear below, "$WinPEDriver$" and "BootCamp". Click "$WinPEDriver$" then "Okay" then "Next". This should start installing the drivers manually. Then do this to the other drivers that have exclamation marks.

I got the same issue. I installed the iso file on the external drive in a virtual machine. When I try to boot it after the restart it said that the version of macOS on the chosen disk (which is the wintousb) needs to be installed again. I am lost :(

Why do you format the external SSD as ExFat instead of NTFS?
because mac cant write data to ntfs format. just read the data without write or edit like move/copy, etc.
