Couldn't agree more. You guys have the IM itch. The Flight 666 performance of Mariner is beyond Epic in EVERY way and will scratch the Beast out of that itch! At the risk of being redundant, please react to that version. #UpTheIrons and Thank You NICKO!!!
World Slavery Tour is the version to watch - that is literally their heyday. They are past their prime in Flight 666....way past it - Bruce's voice thinned out (with short hair to boot), Gers mincing around stage in a toe-curling fashion. The real, raw energy from World Slavery Tour is unmatched- and the stage design has never been bettered. Flight 666 is literally 20 years past their prime (and after Bruce returned as a career move). It's cringey.
@scottblankenship650 World Slavery Tour - heyday. In their 20''. Playing better . Highest levels of ambition etc. Flight 666 - 30 years *after* their heyday. In their 50's. Not playing as well (solos no half as good, as well as the playing in general) , cringey 5th member and Bruce prancing around looking like he belongs in a budget Xmas panto. Flight 666 isn't necessarily *bad* , it's just that WST is leagues ahead in every way. The atmosphere alone is incredible and is unmatched.
The original author of the poem, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was an opium addict, back in the late 18th century, nefore anyone really understood what addiction was. So, a lot of the crazy moodiness of this song is in his poem. Its worth a read. Get a copy and put it next to your bed. Read a few stanzas every night. Totally worth it!
Imagine being a young teenager in the early eighties smokin some weed in like 82’ listening to maiden, Metallica etc for the first time, we knew it was a magical time and we were just as rebellious as any other Gen, but we were listening to Bach Beethoven Mozart handle, rockmoninov in metal form, it was special!
You just described my youth! Started listening to Maiden in 1982 with Killers, Metallica with Kill'em All (and got to see Cliff Burton play Live), Megadeth with Peace Sells....good times to be alive!
'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' was based on the poem written by British poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge... about a sailor who kills and albatross bird and recounts the curse that fell upon his ship and crew. One of the best Iron Maiden epics, recorded in 1984 from their 5th album 'Powerslave'... Standout songs on that record - ''2 minutes to midnight'... 'Powerslave' ... 'Aces High'...
Oh my God, loved this reaction. I saw Maiden in 87 on the Somewhere in Time tour and the following year, headlining Donnington Monsters of Rock festival.......this song live blows your mind. Loving the channel from the UK.
Final track on the 1984 landmark album Powerslave. All the songs on this album were written before going into the studio, except this one. Mr. Steve Harris.
This poem and Charge of the Light Brigade (which became Maiden's The Trooper) were taught to young school children in England back in the day. And Maiden turned them both into metal bangers. There's something to be said for public education, I think.
This is my favourite song by my favourite band... nobody reacts to it because they think it's too long, or they just don't understand the song.. it is beautiful and your reaction was completely priceless. Very much appreciated guys.. I didn't cry..you cried.. be good to yourselves and each other. Bless you both..just subbed.
Your assessment on songs are not only spot on but they match your your enthusiasm. Your reactions are refreshing & sincere, which is much appreciated by the viewers. I look forward to many other heavy metal bands you listen to for the 1st time. I'd really like if you gentlemen react to Billy Idol's Rebel Yell & The Cult's Fire Woman. Much success, gents.
its refreshing to see the younger generation discover and appreciate one of the best metal/hard rock bands of all time. Keep going with Maiden, there really isn't a bad song in their ENTIRE catalog which spans over 40 years, enjoy your journey, I wish I could do it all over again.
What is amazing with Maiden is at the time of this recording that was two guitars playing in perfect sync. Later they added Janick Gers as a THIRD guitar! This is on TOP of Steve Harris on bass. Their precision has always amazed me live! Great reaction and amazing that even 40 years later, you young men had the SAME reaction I had back in 1986 when I heard this song for the first time. UP THE IRONS \m/
Listening to Iron Maiden is like having a history lesson and learning about literature at the same time.Bruce Dickinson is highly educated when it comes to English literature so Iron Maiden lyrics are often very deep and thoughtful.
I loved that you guys followed the lyrics. You picked up many things about this Epic song that most don't on first listen. So enjoyable to watch new reactions to this song and yours was one of the best. I've seen it mentioned already but you guys should do this song and band justice and check out the Flight 666 Live version of this next. You'll get the full treatment on display that shows why Iron Maiden is the best of the best.
Once again, completely great example that heavy metal musicians are Soo talented!!! I seen this song live twice and they sounded just like this!! But people hear the name of the band, and automatically classify them as just head banging noise? Which you guys are definitely learning!!!! Great pick of song!!!
The tour in support of this album was an absolute ass-kicker, with the stage set up similar to the Egyptian tomb shown on the cover. Saw it in Lakeland, FL, 1985 whilst stationed in Orlando. Twisted Sister opened! 😂
I was 16 when this album was released, 40 years later I still can sing along knowing most of the lyrics. Maiden and other bands made me want to learn English beyond what was taught at school. I am not a native speaker, the love for music made me learn and I bet, that I'm not the only one.
I STILL to this day get cold chills when I hear it and first heard it when the album was released. When I was a senior in high school in English class we were studying poets and this poem came up and the teacher allowed my buddy to bring his album to class and play it for the whole class to hear while they read the lyrics. It was EPIC!
When this album came out... high school... learning every note, playing along. Every day. Becoming a musician. Changed my life. I'm an old fart now. Can barely play anymore. But damn those were good times.
Funny coincidence, this album came out when I was in high school. I actually had to memorize the Rime of the Ancient Mariner (the original epic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge) for class. this song helped me do it with ease.
Is the way they put the music to give you the visual image iron maiden is my favorite band of all time hands down. I’m so glad you guys are doing this.
Nobody has done a reaction to losfer words an iron maiden instrumental. It's awesome. I'd love to see someone react to it. You wouldn't be disappointed.
"My favorite thing is two harmonized guitars" Try Hellion/Electric Eye by Judas Priest (Hellion is the intro you have to do both and the intro is where the harmonized guitars are). Great song all the way around too.
If you ever get a chance to see a Maiden show, go. It’s musical theater with all the props and production quality of a Broadway show. They’ve refined their craft to where they are actually better live now than they were 40 years ago. Bruce is the ultimate front man and has an energy that is beyond compare.
"This sh*t bringing tears to my eyes" We know 😉 "I think my new favourite thing is harmonies between two guitars" Dave Murray ❤ and Adrian Smith were known as The Twin Axe Attack during their peak. Amen
They’re actually the reason I love history
A semester of school or 8 minutes of Maiden lol
Senior year English we did a unit on Mythology and our teacher played us The Flight Of Icarus. Think I was the only Maiden fan in the class.
@billwell9266 lol right on
Authentic reaction! Welcome to the maiden family

Holt sh*t! You just brought me right back to my friends basement first year of high school. I was a couple years behind, like '85.
You just described my youth! Started listening to Maiden in 1982 with Killers, Metallica with Kill'em All (and got to see Cliff Burton play Live), Megadeth with Peace Sells....good times to be alive!
I lived it. What a glorious time it was.
@@poonksooniger The greatest of times. I was 15 in 1982. They called us stoners. We rotated Iron Maiden’s first 5 albums over and over and over!
Iron Maiden Aces High

That whole album needs to be done all at once because of the theme. They guys will definitely lose their $#!t

Hell yeah, all of those songs are great! This has always been the strength of Iron Maiden. Storytellers in music form. The true evolution of bards.
My first concert ever I was 12 years old in 1984. I saw Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Been rockin' on ever since! 🤟

This iron maiden rabbit hole goes deep and it’s awesome

Loving the channel from the UK.
the eerie soft spoken verses in the middle are actual parts of the romantic poem the song is based on.
I know guys it's freaking mind-blowing isn't it now you know what I went through when a lot of these songs came out for the first time
Final track on the 1984 landmark album Powerslave. All the songs on this album were written before going into the studio, except this one. Mr. Steve Harris.
Steve Harris ... what a songwriter. And have you EVER heard anyone project so much atmosphere with a bass guitar?
That is Iron Maidens trademark in Metal! They always harmonize their rythyms!!
so much bangers on this album,,,, classic,,,🗡,flash of the blade,,,🗡🎸🤘🤘🤘
