- Lisa is Vietnamese, Michael is Puerto Rican. They met a few years ago and have been madly in love ever since. It was an honor to watch these two cultures come together and celebrate their marriage.

Being wedding filmmakers, we have the honor of witnessing all kinds of ceremonies and traditions. The Vietnamese tea ceremony is one of my favorites. Everyone gathers into a room where the families are formally introduced. The couple shows respect by serving tea while their friends and family give advice about marriage, life, and wishes them well.
I could tell that Michael was nervous right before. You get a glimpse of that as he takes a deep breath before entering the house. We love to capture that anticipation and excitement.

Thanks Estrella. We're going to start weddings more frequently. I just realized how few we actually share on here. We have one coming up this week thats really unique, and the one after that is our favorite from the entire season.
We light the toast with a TORCHLED Bolt 220r. But because of the layout of the room and timing, we didn't get to light the reaction angle.

i noticed that you guys dont do ring shots, dress shots, shoe shots etc the cliché ones in every wedding video, is this something you guys actively avoid?
Exactly AJ. Staged shots like the ones you mentioned usually interrupt the flow of the film, but occasionally they can work. Like a shaky tripod, those shots can make the view feel very aware of the person behind the camera, which is something we try to avoid.

Beautiful! Do you use autofocus on the 1dx mark ii? I heard it has the best fastest autofocus are you able use it for video during the wedding?
Yes, the autofocus on the 1DX II is great. I used it almost all day long.
does that mean you dont use magic lantern focus peaking anymore?
It's no longer needed, and neither is zoom while recording. You can just tap an area and it's in focus. I do miss the false colors for exposure and the crop marks. I had gaffe tape over the screen for this wedding.

Wow amazing work!! How many cameras / camera operators do you shoot with at a time?
We always have two shooters, my wife Pacey and me. For rehearsal dinners and toasts we use one shooter and three cameras - speech, couples reaction, and guests reaction angle. For a ceremony we use 4 cameras - bride, groom, wide safety in the back, and a floating camera. Somehow I always get stuck operating 3 of the 4 cameras. -Matt

I've noticed some of the camera movement was matching the music.
Did you already have the music in mind when you were shooting it?
On most wedding days, we are still discovering the story as we shoot. We never choose music beforehand because it could influence that story . Instead, we shoot based off of the feeling and tone of the events and bring in the music to enhance it afterwords.
great video! this might be my next cam. did u use 120fps in the low light/reception for the slowmo? I didn't notice any light flickering ,did u do 1/250 or 1/125 for shutter
Yes there is a lot of 120fps in this one. I shoot 120fps at 1/240 shutter speed. The 1dxII doesn't flicker much at 120fps but the gh5 does. Depends on the lights.
The Film Poets the a6500 flickers much too. Im as close to getting the 1dxii lol

Great Job! I was looking to purchase a 1DXii myself. Was this filmed in 4K or 1080p? I'm trying to compare the IQ of the 1080 vs 4k in slow mo but cant find much on the internet for video comparison. Just curious because of the sheer size of the MJPEG codec scares me from using 4k. Thanks for your help.
This was all 1080p. The 4k at 60fps doesn't degrade at all compared to 4k at 24fps. The 24fps 1080p is pretty nice but softens a bit when you go to 60 and 120fps. We've shot a few music videos in 4k and its a big step up from regular Canon 1080p. We'll have some 4k weddings posted down the road and will be doing a review of the 1dx II. Hard drives are cheap, but CF cards and Cfast cards add up, so think about it hard before you go for it.

Do you use luts when color grading? The colors are amazing!
Hey Bruce, because of the lack of control we don't use LUTs. I really prefer to grade with Resolve and create custom grades. We're releasing a tutorial next week on getting started in davinci resolve. It'll include a free power grade to get you started.

Ж we either create our own LUTS in Resolve or we do a custom grade. This was based off of a power grade that we made for a previous wedding and then we tweaked from there.

What lenses were y'all using in the reception?
All Canon primes since we had to run the shutter higher for 120fps. The main three were 24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, and 85mm 1.2L
