Very cool to see i grow all of these apple varieties, amd have a geneva crab that is very similar in appearance and red flesh. Hope to see more videos soon.

Curious what you thought of the Arkansas Black. Moving to the old US apple capitol of 1900 here in NWA I discovered Arkansas' heritage apples and am starting to make my own cider with them.

Always love using the heirloom varieties. Arkansas Black is not going to lend much if any tannin but the ones we have used have been high sugar. We cannot say much about other individual flavor characteristics because we have not isolated it or done it as a single varietal.

@@Number12Cider thanks for the reply! I have mine finishing ripening in refrigeration now, so I'm curious to get them on the refractometer soon. I'm hoping to get my hands on some Blacktwigs and Arkansaws - and if I can ever find a graft of the Arkansas Beauty locally, it would be the center of my cider orchard. Given these varieties are all high in sugar, I figure I'll have to use some native crab apples to add tannins and still remain true to the region.
Anyway, super long comment because I've turned into a cider nerd. Do you distribute down to AR at all? Unfortunately we can't do mail ordering... yet

@@lorawaloski I like your idea for using native crabs to add a tannic element to otherwise remain true to your region. Blacktwigs may have a tannin component, so you might get something there as well. Unfortunately we do not distribute yet outside of Minnesota but thanks for asking. If you are able to get us shipped to you somewhere other than Arkansas we ship to 38 states. Happy cider making!
