    The admonition to speak well but to place our reliance on God for conversion is exactly what I needed to hear today. I have some very dear friends and family whose hearts are seeking, but have some real struggles with faith and the ethics of life. Of course, I stress myself out by feeling responsible. The recollection to humility and faith has helped to settle my own heart. Also, the reminder that I should not seek to have people change their opinions in front of me is also an important consideration of kindness. Thank you, Jimmy.

    Mr. Akin is a theologically conservative Catholic. I am, too, but I belong to the Catholic Traditionalist movement. That makes me wonder what he means by "the Christian faith." For me, the Christian faith is Catholicism because I think Christ founded it. He didn't invent Protestantism. How can I or another Catholic talk as if the Christian faith includes doctrines that can't be true together.
    Protestantism suggests Religious Indifferentism, a heresy Blessed Pope Pius IX condemns in his Syllabus of Errors. Religious indifferentists believe everyone has a God-given right to practice any religion human reason recommends to him. Sometimes I meet Protestants who join other Protestant churches because they they disagree with what their current pastors teach. Those people usually know much more than I do. But their disagreements convinced me that I should always remain Catholic.
    In my opinion, today's religiously indifferent ecumenism is immoral because it suggests religious Indifferentism. It hints that no one needs to be Catholic since his religion is good enough to get him to heaven. Catholic Answers, Inc., Mr. Akin's employer, published a shocking booklet I discovered Dr. Robert Sungenis's apostolate. That book suggested what the writer thought a Catholic should say if a Muslim asked him what Christian denomination to join. That author said something like "Choose the best one for you." I woudn't do that. Instead, I'd ask the Muslim to let me explain why I believe he should be Catholic.
    I don't mean to seem tribal. On the other hand, Protestant ministers and youth groups I belonged to persuaded me that Catholicism is the only religion God wants anyone to practice. In Mystici Corporis Christi, Pope Pius XII writes, "103. As you know, Venerable Brethren, from the very beginning of Our Pontificate, We have committed to the protection and guidance of heaven those who do not belong to the visible Body of the Catholic Church, solemnly declaring that after the example of the Good Shepherd We desire nothing more ardently than that they may have life and have it more abundantly.[194] Imploring the prayers of the whole Church We wish to repeat this solemn declaration in this Encyclical Letter in which We have proclaimed the praises of the "great and glorious Body of Christ"[195] and from a heart overflowing with love We ask each and every one of them to correspond to the interior movements of grace, and to seek to withdraw from that state in which they cannot be sure of their salvation.[196] For even though by an unconscious desire and longing they have a certain relationship with the Mystical Body of the Redeemer, they still remain deprived of those many heavenly gifts and helps which can only be enjoyed in the Catholic Church. Therefore may they enter into Catholic unity and, joined with Us in the one, organic Body of Jesus Christ, may they together with us run on to the one Head in the Society of glorious love.[197] Persevering in prayer to the Spirit of love and truth, We wait for them with open and outstretched arms to come not to a stranger's house, but to their own, their father's home."
    www.vatican.va/content/pius-xii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_29061943_mystici-corporis-christi.html
    Catholics should be tactful and irenic. But since ecumenically vague language can mislead other people, I'll always say exactly what I mean.

      @tafazziReadChannelDescription 4 месяца назад +2

      There are errors within the christian faith that do not amount to Apostasy. Denying Jesus' divinity is an act of apostasy, while a more minor error like saying there is no ministerial priesthood, while wrong, doesn't make you follow another religion.
      Keep in mind that online the "traditionalist" tag is used by people who want to publicly dissent from the living magisterium, I'd avoid it if I were you because that attitude goes against canon 212 and Domum Veritatis.

    • @thebitterrootranger4405
      @thebitterrootranger4405 4 месяца назад +2

      Protestants are Catholics that have separated. Orthodox are Catholics that have separated. The separations happened so long ago that the heirs of these separated Catholics don't remember the graces and truths they once had. They also fear the graces and truths because they have been taught to do so.
      I won't pretend it's easy to engage with Protestants or Orthodox, but by nature of once being Catholic at one point in time, there are commonalities that we CAN agree on, and go from there. Baptism saves is one. Typically, the Trinity is another one. The Bible being true and authoritative is a big one. They may not believe in other sources of authority and truth, but they do still love, have, and revere God's Word.
      A good analogy is the ship analogy. Jesus has set sail for a new land at the far side of a wide ocean. He's built the boat big enough to accommodate all of humanity, and it has all the amenities of a functional healthy ship. It has the loading ramp of baptism and confirmation for easy boarding. It has trained staff who have sailed before, as well as a training program for newcomers who want to help sail the ship, these being the angels and saints and then priests and holy orders. It has reliable navigating equipment and a captain, these being the authority structures of the church (Pope and magisterium, Tradition, and the Bible). It even has showers, the sacrament of confession. This is the Catholic ship.
      Protestants and Orthodox were once passengers, but they decided to abandon ship. They built rafts from materials they could gather onboard, and have set sail as best they can on their own. Some of these rafts are bigger and better built than others. Some, the ones who split from other rafts, are downright unsafe and miserable looking.
      But in every case they are only afloat because of the materials gathered from Jesus's first ship. Some of these Protestants have been on their raft for so long that they aren't even aware of a ship on the horizon. A lot of them have been to taught to fear the boat because of the original mutiny.
      Hope this helps

      The Christian faith was delivered "once for all" to the members of Christ's faithful (Jude 3). The fullness of the Christian faith is found *only* in the Catholic Church. Other communions share aspects of it, but none have its fullness.

      @@JimmyAkin Mr. Akin, I know that Protestants and other Christians agree with the Catholic Church on some points. But as Catholics, we believe that Christ founded Catholicism and the Catholic Church. Still, "the Christian faith" is vague. "The," the definite article, suggests that thre's only one Christian faith.
      Protestantism suggests the religious indifferentism Blessed Pope Pius IX condemns in his Syllabus of Errors. From my perspective, Catholicism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Methodism, and so forth are different religions. Different people founded those denominations and those denominations disagree on many doctrines.
      I can't say that a Lutheran and I practice the same religion when official Lutheran doctrines contradict some Catholic ones. If we lump Catholcism together with versions of Protestantism, we produce a logically inconsistent set of doctrines. One inconsistency makes the collection inconsistent. doctrines are logically consistent if and only if they can be true together. Now you know why I'll use the phrase "the Christian faith" only when I mean Catholicism. Please reconsider using ecumenically vauge phrases because they confuse other people.
      In Humani Generis, Pope Pius XII writes, "27. Some say they are not bound by the doctrine, explained in Our Encyclical Letter of a few years ago, and based on the Sources of Revelation, which teaches that the Mystical Body of Christ and the Roman Catholic Church are one and the same thing.[6] Some reduce to a meaningless formula the necessity of belonging to the true Church in order to gain eternal salvation. Others finally belittle the reasonable character of the credibility of Christian faith." If the Catholic Church of Christ, no Protestant denomination is a part of it.
      Like Msgr. Joseph Clifford Fenton, I know there's a difference between being a Catholic and being in the Catholic Church as a nonmember of it. Suppose I'm a Protestant who intends to do each thing God wants me to do, Then, if God wants me to become a Catholic, I intend implicitly to do that. In that case, Msgr. Fenton would say I'm in the Catholic Church, though I'm not a member of it. If Vatican II means that non-Catholics can get connected to the Catholic Church as nonmembers of it.
      But there's a major difference between telling me that and claiming that Protestant sects are alternative means of salvation. If they were alternative means of salvation. There's salvation in only the Catholic Church. That's why any person must be connected to her when he dies. Otherwise, he won't reach heaven. When the Catholic teaches that she's the only ark of salvation, does she suggest that she's the only ark in a fleet of ships, though smaller ships in that fleet?
      Is Unitatis Redintegratio telling is that Protestant sects are, if you will, smaller boats when it claims that:
      "Moreover, some and even very many of the significant elements and endowments which together go to build up and give life to the Church itself, can exist outside the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church: the written word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, and visible elements too. All of these, which come from Christ and lead back to Christ, belong by right to the one Church of Christ.
      The brethren divided from us also use many liturgical actions of the Christian religion. These most certainly can truly engender a life of grace in ways that vary according to the condition of each Church or Community. These liturgical actions must be regarded as capable of giving access to the community of salvation.
      It follows that the separated Churches(23) and Communities as such, though we believe them to be deficient in some respects, have been by no means deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Church."?
      www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decree_19641121_unitatis-redintegratio_en.html#:~:text=For%20the%20Spirit%20of%20Christ,truth%20entrusted%20to%20the%20Church.

    Luckily we don’t have to stand on trial to defend atheism or religion. So it’s no need for defending anything if you believe in a religion it’s okay to say so. If you are saner you’re an atheist because the lack of any real evidence. And that’s okay also. I believe that the Bible is way to fragmented to hold credit to the truth. I think it’s some real historical evidence but it seems to be a lot of imagination in it, a little to much. The absence of god is very evident.
