This video shares a common theme with others you've done. Big block with many nice parts but in need of an experienced Mopar mechanic. When sorted out properly they are pure happiness.
Yeah! It’s a recurring sight in my world for sure. Someone throws nice parts at a car, but the build falls short in the setup and tuning, and often in the electrical system too. Making them work right is one of my greatest pleasures - and the people seem to enjoy watching it too.
JAMIE. OMG, you brought back so bad memories. I had to do something on my 70 challenger, and right after i got it back together, someone stole it. But this video sent shivers up my spine.
Great job with the wire harness,,.. Seriously you have redeemed yourself,,, thank you for that... See if you can squeeze more content out of this maybe from what's leaking. Or even the front end. Thanks.. ❤
Man, the depth and breadth of the cars you get to mess with on a daily basis is really astonishing. And even though I'm not particularly a fan of yellow E bodies as well, someone else is. And it's still surviving, and not in the crusher. That's important. And you're helping to keep it that way. Good vid.
Sounds like that Len song popped in to your head because this car is sucking the life out of you (stealing your sunshine). I always liked changing the lyrics to “if you steal my moonshine.” Amazing how changing one part of one word makes a song take on a whole different meaning. 😂
I just got my ddg hat in the mail. Thank you! Though, i was hoping you would have tossed a used radiator cap or valve stem or broken hose clamp into the box with the hat. But the hat will do.
Great job ripping out someone else's nightmare and fixing it the correct way. You got alot of patience and skillz bro. Way more than I have. I probably would have paid out my a** to have someone do that for me. :)
Good stuff, as much as we all struggle with wiring is nice to see videos on this very frustrating/ taboo subject. Murphys law comes in soo much of the time
AWESOME....I have a 73 CHALLENGER it had wiring iusses through the years. Not as bad as this one, but none the less a butt pain to get it right. You are the MAN...MOPAR 4 EVER.
I, too, am an A body guy! B & E seem to get all of the attention, but A bodies are a lot easier to work on! Really glad to see there's more folks out there reproducing factory wiring harnesses! At the moment, I'm working on a 1968 A100 van. I'd like to replace it's harness just for safety's sake! Merry Christmas everyone!👍🎅
The random orange wire by the heater box is for the slap stick shifter light. I love how Chrysler just duct taped it to the floor pan under the carpet.

@20:57 In my Dodge, the radio was disconnected as well. I paid retail for a stereo adaptor. However, I could never get the stereo and the dash lights to work at the same time. At least not for very long. I had to make a choice between one or the other. It sounds silly I know. The stereo being the obvious choice. Then, if you drive at night for long enough that will drive you crazy. Ever turn on a sketchy dome light to estimate your speed?
I enjoy the instrument panel theater lighting.. it lights up the whole show. In a fuselage C-body, it lights up the giant stage of textured plastic running 2/3s the way across the dash. Then there's the whole makes bulb changing thing a breeze, too..
Beautiful classic Mopar with electrical issues? How odd… Love the videos you work hard to put out here to educate and entertain us, the unwashed masses. Well… semi-washed. Thank you for everything you do in your pursuit of global domination.
That car is loaded with potential! Lol. I watched some videos about the Hemi 6's . They claimed almost 300 on some of the 6pack engines. I bring this up because I know that you are into the 6 cylinders.
@DeadDodgeGarage I wonder how hard and expensive it would be to get one . People bring engines from Japan daily? By the way, the Charger they built on the A body was really sharp!
Not going to lie im the "E body is m fovorite"... I grew up around only fords and chevy and you werent allowed to like anything else.. Then we moved and the neighbor had like 20 different mopars and he came home in this car with a massive cam and I was like "what is that sound, what is that car?" i was 6 and since then ive just gone for Dodge .
Great video, thanks! I have a 72 Challenger and the console lights do not change with the different gear position like I've seen on some cars. I would like to have that though!
The only important change would be heavier torsion bars. I suspect they haven’t been changed. A sway bar would be nice too - you may have noticed it’s in the trunk.
@Jamie, if there is more room under the hood a taller air cleaner will help. That low profile doesn't give the air enough room to turn down the carb but more like across it.
My friend Shelley over in Spokane had a green 4 door 72 valiant in great shape and the slant 6 ran so smooth. One day she stopped to visit a friend and about 15 minutes go by and her friend yells your car is on fire! They looked out to see the dash on fire and flames coming out the window. It burned beyond help but a guy bought it for parts!
I suddenly feel better about my 73 Continental. Only issue...its a Continental, and theyre worth as much as used beer. So the bar of what is ...acceptable, is much much higher. Plus mine weights a A LOT. Though, at 20ft long, its still lighter than the new upcoming Charger. Zing!
Very good work. You make it almost look easy. How difficult it would be to replace a standard gauge cluster with a rallye gauge cluster? I think the only functional difference between the two is the tach. My standard cluster has a small tach in the #4 position that somebody put in there. So I might not even need a new harness. I have heard there are also some physical differences to address. Anyway, I would love to see you do a video on that someday because I have not found any good comprehensive videos out there.
I ended up with aftermarket gauges and switches because there’s not much room to access the wiring on a 78 -97 Ram van dash, of course they put the bolts behind the windshield so the dash can’t be removed without removing the windshield. And now I have Steal My Sunshine stuck in my head.
Hey Jamie, your the most educated person I’ve seen in mopar wiring what are the oddd you know and could make a video or even point me in the direction on converting a 88-91 dodge Ram TBI harness to carb?
Well, thank you! I have been asked for that many times. It really isn’t tough. But I can’t make a video until I have a subject truck that needs that done - so it might be a bit…
That did not look fun dealing with the wiring in that ride. But it seems like a rowdy car when you took it for the rest drive. Another big block sorted out by the Mopar whisperer!
Jamie, in your opinion is there any difference in difficulty from a rally cluster? Had to remove my 73 rally cluster years ago and I remember never wanting to have to do it again lol .
It’s almost exactly the same job. There is a chance I will have an upcoming project swapping from base gauges to Rallye gauges and the associated wiring and components. I think that will be quite interesting.
Back in the day, I was into everything of big 3 horsepower but eventually gravitated towards GM for a lot of good reasons. These endless Chrysler wiring/electrical issues are one of the big reasons. Yes, To be fair, many of the problems in this video are related to user butchery, but not all. I really feel for Chrysler engineers of the time. I think they did fantastic things that so much of the time we’re completely sabotaged by no budget to produce end quality. I watch videos like this and want to take every single component that has anything to do with electricity and replace end to end with AC Delco. I wonder if Chrysler ever considered subbing that out accordingly…

I think the steering column has been changed in that Challenger I don't think the key release switch came out until 1971 none of my 70s have it don't know if that would effect the occasional no start or not
No the switch and harness connections are the same. Not sure on key release. There is no question this car is a bit of a mutt so a column change wouldn’t surprise me.
Hey DDG, just have a question, why MOPAR? I have no dislike for any brand really, I was just curious what is it that you like so much about MOPAR. Engines? Body style? Or whole package? I love a lot of the old MOPARS, but also like the other brands. Just curious. Nice videos.

@DatSun. Well..why not?

Bulky welded aluminium valve covers makes ANY engine a certified race motor. Guaranteed street cred!
Damn right! Tell you what, I was NOT expecting this engine to live up to those… I was surprised.
Even more HP than stickers ? hehe
I find that they are stiffer and seal better.
I have to say... I'm always looking forward / eagerly awaiting your next episode....keep up the good work and the clever narration !
Thank you!
That wiring made me sick!!! You definitely deserve praise because you my friend have more patience than I'll ever possess!!! Nice work!!!
Great work Jamie!
That wiring was a F ing nightmare!
Holy shit!

Well done!
I just love your down to earth audio narrations. Serious but extremely entertaining to me.
