    I owned a 68 Charger R/T........the year was 1978 .I was drag racing a dude one night and blew his doors off and kept my foot in it for about a mile guessing I'm running 100+ and yes .........BOOM the driveshaft blew off the car completely. Less than a minute later a State cop pulls up and off to jail I went !

      @303Mopar Sure did.... That Trooper was pissed when he caught up with me. The noise when the driveshaft let go was pretty loud inside the car.

      @ lol, great story. Mine was a very loud bang on the bottom of the floor that popped open the center console door.

    The overdrive unit is nice.
    Did you consider installing an A518 or a GM700r4?

    • @303Mopar
      @303Mopar  2 месяца назад

      I considered the A518, 700r4 and the TKX 5 speed. While I would like more than the .78:1 ratio of the GVOD, I already had a great 727 that was recently rebuilt a couple years ago, so buying another transmission and modifying the tunnel seemed a lot of money and work for just an additional .09:1 ratio drop (A518 is .069:1). The TKX would have been great too, but a complete swap to manual transmission with all new parts, carpet, console is very expensive. John Cope has a good video on costs and considerations here - ruclips.net/video/qSnf7aFS964/видео.htmlsi=QK9H68WLIuEWn0Aj

      @@303Mopar Great video. I have one of his reverse manual valve bodies in my 727. Works great!
      But with 4:10 gears, the 360 in my 72 Dart is screaming at 3000rpm at 60mph. Not ideal! Lol!
      Have always considered the Gear Vendors unit. I may bite the bullet.

    • @303Mopar
      @303Mopar  2 месяца назад

      @@jumpinjojo The 4.10's are a killer for a street driven car for sure. Cope did a video on a 518 swap in a Challenger here - ruclips.net/video/yt8DrrYyUV0/видео.htmlsi=zERbS3zERu0CgMwt . You can see all the fab required for the crossover support, notch the frame, shave the trans tail fins, speedo cable, z-bar, etc that you need to do to fit one in. If you have a good 727 the GVOD is a good option, plus you can split the gears too.

      I would honestly save and buy the passion five speed tremec. Mine bolted right into my 68 charger although I only went from a 4 Speed to a five but I tell you it's worth it without cutting

    • @303Mopar
      @303Mopar  2 месяца назад

      @@MoparGuy-x1r the 5 spd is a great setup. I helped my friend install one with a hydraulic clutch in his Cuda and it was great. But it is almost triple the cost of a GVOD by the time you include all the parts, carpet, center console, shifter, etc.

    My goal is to restomod a 68 Charger,this coming year.
    But having grown up in the 1950`s and 60`s there are two mods I throughly despise with old school muscle cars.
    The first is always wondering why in hell guys put those dumb looking vinyl tops on any muscle cars!!!
    Jeeze they ruin the sleek unspoiled look especially on old Chargers.
    I see so many old Chargers with vinyl tops.
    They look ok on a 1967 4 door Cadillac, but look terribly rediculous. and out of place on old school muscle cars.
    The other even worse travesty is putting automatic transmissions in muscle cars.
    I guess the owners don`t know how to drive a manual.
    Guys,learn to drive a manual!
    The Charger is so iconically stunning in design that they dont deserve to be made to look tacky and old lady appealing.

      A lot of muscle cars in the 1960’s and 70’s came with a vinyl top, including mine and I wanted it to look original since I have so much original paperwork on it with only 70k original miles too. Mine also was an original automatic. I have converted auto to manual a couple times but it’s pricey. You can also take off the vinyl top but you will need bodywork done and repaint the entire car, again very expensive. I’m interested to see your restoration of your Charger built the way you want it.
