Very good review. 👏🏻 I am always amazed how clean & distortion free HD800S sounds no matter how loud you go with the volume. Its an incredible product of near perfect sound engineering from those Germans.
I listen to classical music almost exclusively . My HD800s driven by a hybrid amplifier sound amazing 🎉❤ especially for music of a grand symphony orchestra with ~100 instruments.
Just recently got a pair of the HD800s to add to my collection of only planars. I run them off an Electrocompaniet ECD2 DAC paired with the hybrid Pathos InPol Ear headphone amp and all I can say is holy shite!! Incredible.....
Great Review! I had the Arya V2 and HD800S (on sale at Slickdeals for 1200) at the same time. I preferred the Arya for its jack of all trades. The Arya has a little more life/intimacy and really great in soundstage. I loved the HD800s and planned mainly for gaming, though I know it would collect dust so I returned. A great buy right now if getting into the Hd800S at $1200 brand new, though the lack of bass left me wanting more, even after EQ. This is a unique headphone and will blow many away, just depends on your personal use case and genre preference.
Got Arya V2 and never thought that 800s can be better but since I got my ZMF headphones Arya start to sound thin or very dry whatever word you want to use. Dont buy ZMF high end headphones because you gonna sell everything else xD
hey steve :) would u use the 800s (maybe with EQ) if you listen to pop and vocals mostly? or u wouldnt pick the 800s for this purpose at all? i dont listen to classic / jazz
Without EQ, I probably wouldn't use HD800S for pop/vocal music. The Focal Clear/MG would probably be a better pick to get some similar characteristics with a headphone that's better tuned for pop/rock type genres.

A good OTL tube amp is highly recommended with these. I would not buy it if you only plan to use it with a solid state amp.
I really like it on solid state amps. It sounds great on my Chord Hugo TT2.

I live in Sweden, its hard to find different ones to listen to in stores.
@@hpol3603 Schiit Volkwangr. They have only 2 units left with 230V. It's sublime with Sennheisers.
