  • Join Cynthia Ritchie an American who's traveled Pakistan since 2009 (and who now considers Pakistan her second home) as she ventures to a few of UNESCO's World Heritage Buddhist monastery Sites located in the Khyber-Pakhtukhwa.
From Takht-i-Bahi, an ancient Buddhist monastery in Mardan district - considered among the best preserved of all Gandhara historical sites; to Jaulian, another Buddhist monastery dating from the 2nd century located in Haripur District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the provincial border with Punjab province and approximately 9 km away from the city of Taxila. Most of the relics from Jaulian are located at the Taxila Museum.
Peshawar museum holds thousands of Buddhist, Islamic Artifacts and is a true treasure to visit.
These sacred spaces are an easy day trip from the Federal Capital Territory of Islamabad. Please respect these sites as you would any other sacred site, or place of worship. Please don't litter and respect the Pilgrims visiting these sites by giving them their privacy (when praying or offering sacred rituals), when requested.
Welcome to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa! Welcome to Pakistan!
