    my uncle bought a replica but it had a 911 special edition engine, but with a beetle frame. but all in all really fast because of the engine.

    First Meyer Manx buggys where self-supporting body or monocoque. But competitor shalsh their prices and to follow the price option body where simplified and you had to prepare floor-pan, cut it and weld it, this conduct to a more complicated homolgation while you have to get autorisation from transportation office for your welding, first to order body.

    You have to buy a swing axle Beetle chassis with the torsionbar front suspension from before 1975.
    Best wil do a chassis later dan 1967 and older as 1975.

      Which is better the swing Axel or the IRS? And what year model did it change? Please, I'm very lacking with my VW knowledge and would like to build a replica.

    Is the best I've ever see. I'm working in something similar. There's a way to share some tips to improve my project tips?

    A double-joint standard torsion-front car would work fine but Super Beetle McPherson design won't work without serious fabrication. Those cars rely upon the body for strut mounting. And they're wider through the nose. I don't even know if the strut tops would fit under a 356 body. The engine hanging out the back pretty much destroys handling anyway. Ask any 911 driver about snap oversteer.

    Brasil built them as VW Fusca to the end of the 1990`s. there you can get a rustfree version cheap.

    I admit to know nothing about these things but why not use a later bug with double joint rear end and macpherson strut front end,ok, not original but bound to handle better,saves going for an underslung transverse leaf spring as per days of penny pinching yore.

    My shop is in the Netherlands. Ask your question on the DDK forum (replica section).

    Only a torsion bar front suspension chassis before 1975 is suited. After that the midtunnel changed and these chassis are not suited for shortening to build a 356 Speedster!

    @karolsokol3k : its not an easy job indeed. Not for a saturday morning anyway! You need good welding skills for this one. So for 70% of the homebuilders not suited. Its my own procedure so no manual for this one. Look at the film and do the same I guess.
    @ Others: no answers on the same questions!

      @adriano you can but you would have to flip the power pack around and fabricate a rear subframe if you cut the horns off the beetle pan and that would need reinforced

    guess tht's why you never see any 356's or 911's as track cars, hahaha

    • @jockellis
      @jockellis 6 лет назад +1

      Abbottcost what are you talking about? There are many 356s in historic races and lots of 911s in modern Racing classes.
