Greatest teacher in the whole wide world.
Wow! That's VERY kind. Thank you!
I second that
I stopped watching someone elses video because this dude just looked so chill in his thumbnail. 😂 glad i made the right choice
Man this felt like it unlocked something in my head. I picked up my bass immediately, restarted the video, and immediately got to practicing it
Same!!
Dang, a teacher who's actually teaching instead of just showing off and making it impossible for us to follow along! Thank you!
All beginner bass players should be required to watch this video. Thank you Rich Brown for this amazing video, it opened many doors for me!
Drummer here, learning bass. I know how to read tabs, I have not learned the fretboard yet as in notes, But tabs would be very helpful. Thank you.
I’ve played guitar for several decades, but I’m pretty new to learning bass. I ‘knew’ this stuff already, but you have a wonderful way of explaining it (and I always look for better ways of understanding theory)…I feel like I ‘know’ it a bit better now. You have an incredible way of speaking and teaching.
Beginners, intermediate players, and pros. There's something in this video for all of you. I hope it helps.
Thanks for watching!🙏🏾❤
the way you tied in the music theory in this video is wonderful. as a beginner bassist, i thank you
Appreciate the smooth and fundamental teaching. Scales of all kinds and varieties are absolutely essential to building music and melodies. Cheers.
I could not agree more. Thank you very much!
@@richbrownbass You are always welcome!
Sir, you are a treasure! Thank you so much for these wonderfully helpful videos. I’m a beginner bassist but you help me a lot.
Thank you! I like how mathematical and pattern oriented music is on the bass. It's so cool.
Very well spoken and easy to understand and follow!
I’m a keyboard player just now starting out on bass. Thanks for making this! Very informative and easy to understand
I just want to say you are a great teacher. Your explanations are so easy to understand. I’m just starting on the bass and you make it encouraging for people to learn.
Thank you so much!
Nicely demonstrated Rich.
I think it's at this point when folks learning to play have a light bulb moment on music theory. It's like the first turn of the key that unlocks the magic box. When you quickly realise that this relationship happens all over the neck, it's a time of great advances in understanding the fretboard.
This is exactly what I was looking for, No over the top goofy youtube personality, no ridiculous editing and not making the video about yourself. Right to the point, very informative and simple to understand. Thanks man I really appreciate it, I'm coming from a drumming and synthesizer background and I want to pick up bass next, The way you've explained how scales work on the bass made a lot of sense to me. I'm going to be coming back to this video to practice. much appreciated
Good stuff Rich, your style makes it easy to understand. I learned to play bass when I was 15 in 1969, my mother taught me how to read music and then when I was introduced to the Circle of Fifths, it all made more sense. I never stop studying and learning. Thanks!
So music is like a fish. It has scales.
fascinating. 😁
Awesome vid.
I never really check out stuff like this because I've played SOO long but I know NOTHING about scales, reading, etcetera. GRRREAT VIDEO! Thanks Rich.
you are a fantastic teacher. my new favorite channel!
Wow, thank you so much!
Holy crap something just clicked in me, I've been holding on learning scales for a week now because it sounds daunting for a beginner thank you so much
Really appreciate the way you teach and this connection between major and relative minor is so helpful to me. Coming from years of piano and guitar this really helps a lot! Thank you
You are the best on the Planet !
Thanks for your lesson…It’s too much helpful….taking your lesson from Bangladesh….
A very good basic theory lesson. Not a play along job but a listen and learn. With all this information should give basic theory concept about notes and scales.I will just have to keep watching over multiple times until becomes all clear.I am ok with reading time scales and tablature but need more education on scales.I am glad I found this,no chalk board or ruler just right.
You made sound and look so easy. Thank you
Maaaan…..I’ve watched this video SO…MANY…TIMES because I just couldn’t get it. But just now it finally clicked! Omg I totally get it!! Lmao! 😅😅I’m beyond happy because I feel like I’ve unlocked the mystery of the major and minor scales! Now I feel like I can improvise a bit better because i actually understand what It is I’m doing! Thanks so much! You’re the greatest! 😅
Just seeing all these comments I’m 39 seconds into the video and excited!!
A different perspective on a simple major scale. Great lesson as usual!
You're phenomenal!
My friend I can't even express how thankful I am. I've learnt more in a couple of your short videos than on some classes!
Thank you!
I needed this video. The way you broke everything down made things click for me. Thank you for making this.
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching.
Thank you for taking the music theory and PRACTICALLY explaining it so it applies to the bass.
I knew this stuff, but if this is the first time you learn about scales, it's a good place to start.
Can't eat too get home and mess with that major scale template👍
WOW!!! That was the fret board pattern that I have needed in the last two years of piecemeal study....harpist turned bass player here and I have been searching for that "key" that would unlock the fret board for me melodicly...you are awesome! Thank you neighbor 😊
Thank you RIch for such a great explanation. You extended my pattern-thinking to the next level. Please keep up your excellent work! I truly enjoyed this video!
i could have been a pro i have enough time behind the keyboard (and starting to learn above the keyboard learning and loving piano). Mr. Tone, you have enlightened me even more than i knew... simplicity Thank you.
All Hail Maestro Brown who's lovely way of bringing joy and wisdom to our fingers is a revelation - (and a helluva lotta soul-feeding fun). Prof Brown, I have been woodshedding with your videos for days now; you have given me much and my appreciation is massive. Heaps of praise upon you and may fortune smile on your happy home. *[Ps I wish to hell you were anywhere close, I'd give the proverbial eye tooth to study with you in person.] Merci, Gracias, Thanx.
wow! thk you so much! my first time in 20 years I understand this as clearly!
That's It, I am a Professional Thanks. No Just Kidding, but I do think your approach to the Major and Minor on the Bass with the Finger Count hit home for me better than trying to remember the Notes. You went from being a Musician to a Mathematician. I really like the Mike Tyson combination of playing the scales. It's a Knockout winner. Thanks Again
Just discovered your channel, you’re an awesome teacher, things are getting clearer and clearer. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.
I play keys and this video made instanty to now all the notes of a bass 💯💯💯
I wish my high school band teacher was patient enough to teach me this theory when I played tuba. Glad to have found your videos as I begin learning bass. Thank you Mr. Brown!
Absolutely worth the 14 minutes
thank you so much - this is helpful. my bass teacher is teaching me scales but i didn't get the relationship and how it extended across all 4 strings
I am truly enjoying your tutorials, and my enjoyment of playing is growing daily
Wonderful wonderful wonderful
thank you so much i learn it
Thank you for sharing you talent.
You are a great bassist. Thank you for all the knowledge you give us I will be praying for you.
Thank you, Gustavo. 🙏🏾
Rich Brown you're a legend for this
Picked up my bass for the first time in a decade last night. I will be doing that again. Every day for at least an hour.
Nice, your chill makes it easy to learn. Thx much
Another spectacular lesson. So much growth from this channel. Thank you.
I appreciate that. Thank you so much for watching!
By far one of your best teachings, brotha Rich! I love how you break it down slow with finger placement. It is very hard to find videos for the beginner/intermediate player. This is how I learn and makes me a better player. Can you please go over your lesson from SBL on the modes or the different way you play them. I think it's playing the 6th🤦🏾🤷🏾♂️
Thank you so much for helping everyone and being generous with your knowledge! You are greatly appreciated!
Thanks Rich, that is beautiful, it makes so much sense. Hurry up with the next lesson I'm hungry.
Big respect to you Rich.
This blew my damn mind thank you so much
Mr.Brown thank you for explaining the relative major minor relationships.
It's much clearer now Sir
Really appreciate your teaching Sir
You just opened up something in my mind. Another mystery demystified. Thank you!
"Saan ka noong naghahanap ako ng makakaturo sa akin ng Bass?"
That's Filipino for "Where were you when I'm looking for a Bass Teacher?"
Love this vid. And I'm sure I'll be scanning your channel for more.❤❤
I started to watch your video and I already play in an another level. You are my inspiration Mr Brown.

Great content and Education from Rich once again. The Guy is incredibly gifted and his teaching method is so helpful to everyone
Wow, thank you.
Been playing for ages but this video has changed up my understanding of not over thinking which I’ve always done as I wasn’t one of the lucky people born with a good ear haha. Than you for this awesome lesson dude ❤
I just want to say I absolutely appreciate your teaching style. This is the first bass scale video I've been able to follow along with and actually learn from and I've watched several. Thank you so much and keep up the good work. You've got a new subscriber!
Thanks so much for the kind words, Bobbie. I'm so glad this video helped.
Perfect Timing!! My instructor Wednesday wants me to start learning scales now!! Been working on melody for 5 months.
I hope this video helps, Kevin. Thanks for watching!
That was really helpful. I knew the templates but the way you described the relationship between them was new to me. Thank you 🙏
hey thanks for the great video!
Amazing. I’m nee to bass. Really helped. Thank you so much. Keep doing the good work
Marvelous explanation. Thank you very much!
Brilliant!
Hallelujah sir. That was so helpful. Thank you👍
Great video. This can go right into the circle of 5ths lesson too. I see the correlation!
Watching your videos inspires me to practice even more..thanks!
Wow! I just “got it!” I had never understood relative minors before. Now I have unlocked the fretboard.
I love that. Thank you very much for watching!
Everything makes absolute sense. Thank you so much, sir. This video gave me the answers for a lot of previous questions. I may have a look at more videos of your channel.
Please do. There are a lot here on the channel. Thank you for watching!
That was a massive light bulb moment for me! I thought I had the major and minor scales learned well at this point but didn’t connect the relationship between the two or how to extend them across all 4 strings. Thanks Rich, this was super helpful! I’d be keen to see a video like this for 5 or 6 string too.
I love this, Bass Scales, I'm going fishing. Peace and love.
Enjoy, brother Philip. Thanks as always for watching!
Genius 🥹
Superb lesson!
Thanks!

You’re such a treasure. I wish I was in Canada so I could go see you sometime.

Your an inspiration to me. Thank you for helping me to become a bass player!
CANT wait to watch! i just finished the pentatonic scales for beginners video so im primed and ready for this!
Superb lesson and explanation thank you
Wonderful lesson. Thank you.
I’m a beginner and this is so helpful.
Okay, my hand hurts, but I know we’ll get through this.
You make it so easy to understand. Thank you so much!
Its good stuff sittin on the brown stones step ,, thanks amigo.
Thank you, for all you do.
Great lesson! Could you do a lesson about how to get from intermediate bass player (stuck in one place practicing 2 octave scales, arepeggios, warm-up exercises, improvising and playing a bass line created on a fly to a backing track) to the advanced bass player and what to do, what to learn, what to practice, some theory to become advanced, some scale and arpeggio exercises but for the advanced bass player? IT WOULD BE SO COOL! And many people would benefit from this lesson. A genre playing lessons would also be GREAT for example how to play rock on bass, how to play metal on bass, how to play soul on bass, how to play motown on bass, how to play country on bass, how to play fusion (jazz-rock) on bass, how to play funk on bass and of course how to play jazz on bass guitar and how to start easily with walking bass lines and slowly become more fluent in playing walking bass (everything for intermediate/early advanced bass players) ! Could you please do lessons like this? It would be awesome! You are a great teacher and thank you for everything! I hope you will do lessons like these ideas I gave you in this comment. WE WOULD LOVE THAT! Greetings from Poland, Mike :)
Another great video Rich. Thank you for your patience and professionalism as an instructor and musician..
thanks
Another great lesson Rich,
Thank you.
