According to people on Reddit, it's basically useless to play a solo mastery and you should always invest in 2 masteries because that's how the game was intended and yet my highest level character is 90 and I've put barely anything into the second mastery and I seem to be doing fine.

There's also a hidden achievement for getting to Vanguard of the Three on ultimate HC without picking a class and many people have done it, so by that logic you can do fine without even picking a class. Single class is definitely playable, but that doesn't mean that dual class isn't the best option by a wide margin.

Completely correct. The primary "issue" with single mastery is less attributes, since the mastery bars are a strong source of attribute points. However, there are a number of masteries that can easily compensate for this through using the extra skill points to invest in passives that boost some attribute or stat. Soldier and Arcanist are good examples of this. Oathkeeper has very few stat-boosting attributes, at least in terms of damage attributes. A solo Oathkeeper gets to use the extra skill points to be every bit as tanky as the average double-mastery, if not more so in comparison to certain combinations. If I plan on taking on John Bourbon, however, I may want to throw in a bit of a second mastery for the damage to be able to kill him in a decent amount of time. I haven't fought him in the newest update, so I'll need to test first before making that decision. But essentially, you are on completely on the mark with this comment.

@@augustegustave2046 Also accurate, though I disagree with the use of the "wide margin" specifically. How wide the margin is depends on which solo mastery you are comparing to which combination class. Some single masteries will really struggle, and others really won't, depending on the passives the single mastery has access to.

@@prof.reithe4053 No single-mastery character can perform better than dual-mastery. Name any single-class build and there will be a better way to do the same playstyle and damage type on a dual-mastery build. You can of course play a single-mastery as a challenge, but that doesn't mean it will be more effective than a fully fledged dual-mastery build.

@@hi-im-huesitos You misunderstand me. I agree with you, as my earlier comments illustrate. There IS a gap in terms of effectiveness of a single and dual mastery build, primarily in terms of attributes. I merely posit that the gap is not as wide as many would believe, and that gap varies in size depending on which single and dual mastery builds you're comparing. I never said a single mastery build can outpace a dual mastery build, just that it's not as bad as people claim.
