Chris, Seriously this needs to be you back-up machine. Tier zero emissions, old school iron. Can't get any better than that. No problems like the new stuff today. Thanks for making the video of this machine!!!
That era of 235's are arguably the best and most reliable excavators ever made. I just goddamn love that old iron. And listen to that sweet diesel roar!
Starts right up, just like a good little 3306. I had an old Freightshaker with a 3306b. Most reliable motor I ever had in any truck. Not the most HP on the road, but that thing never EVER refused to start right away, even in bitter cold winter weather.
The old girl sounds sweet, could tell when operators changed by how smooth the machine did her thing digging, swinging and dumping. Chris is smooth handling.
Put many an hour in an old 235…they were a great old machine and quite productive!..hard AF on fuel but they could get a lot of work done with the fuel burned…this one looks like she’s DEF deleted!..haha!..great video!.👍🏻
Boy, uncle Charlie sure know how to send it! Haha I think he had you beat on a heaping scoop. Lol good ole machines. They sure don’t make them like they used too.
Hey there Chris, you and Charlie sure do like to fill the bucket on the old girl and she still has an awesome growl for an old kitty. Top vodka as wade would say, stay safe ,Cheers and beers from Aus
Cowdenbeath Scotland,1981-82,Alistair operated one of these,we used to ride in the bucket back to his refuel point at end of his shift, great memories 💚🙏🏾
Look at the size of the boom cylinders, they're huge. The hydraulics on these old machines ran at about half the pressure, that's why the cylinders are so thick to get the force out of the fluid. Modern excavators have skinnier cylinders, but running at higher pressure they can generate the same force.
LOVE the Gold Rush comment. To the seasoned, you can tell the sound and machines dont match! Quite often see teeth on a bucket one second and gone the next! The editing is shocking! ( watched every episode though).
Back in the day these machines were great. But running them now, God dang there slow compared to modern equipment. Still good units but wouldn't trade my new one for it.
My dad ran a 235 for a company he worked for .they are had a 235 B an a 235 C. They were good machines in there day. Before he retired they replacd them with cat 350's
Your Valvos are nice Chris, but entirely lacking the cool factor of a Cat 235. Which of your excavators could that machine outdig? I assume the 160, but could it beat out a 210?
is the 235's rotary swivel joint leaking.. i see a puddle under it @4:20 might be easier to fix when its NOT working daily.. could be a track motor hose or fitting oring to.. only a look above that heavy heavy belly plate.. huge hint.. figure out what thread the belly plate bolts are. use all thread with some coupling nuts with some 6" bolts welded to the coupling nuts to make them into giant wing nuts.. this will easily drop the belly plate.. you may want to use the welder to put a tack weld about an inch and a half from one end of the all thread.. so you can tighten the all thread against the threaded bracket making it harder to back out when loosening.. ps.. don't weld the bolts to the end of the coupling nuts.. so you can get a ratcheting box end wrench up the long piece of all thread and work the coupling nut with that till it gets to an easy spot.. make up 3 coupling nuts with bolts welded on for each piece of all thread.. so you can lock two together with a box end wrench on it to prevent it from backing out.. while unscrewing the one to lower the belly plate.. there was a video of i think ABOM79 or keith fenner pushing the inner sleeve out of a rotary swivel joint on their big press..
Is there a way to delete def fluid and stuff on newer equipment and not have all the regulated crap on it?? Glad to see Charlie’s doing good and still has all his equipment. Does he still have everything or did he sell some of it?
Plus the minor issue of the fines the EPA hands out if you are caught in violation of the clean air act. DEF itself isn't a big issue, it's the way the engine itself is controlled that causes the most complaints.
Im not a cat man. Over anything else. But i can say my brotherinlaw bought a 211 cat brandnew in 1983or84. And he also has a 235 and d6 and 950. But i do know this he only operator of the 211. And i believe he has 27 thousand hrs on it. Original pump. And he never touched ran the original bottom till 17 or 19 thousand hours. Runs machine daily still. The joysticks have all his finger and thumb area completely worn thru the joysticks. I guess you could say cats been good to him

She sounds “angry”
Proper old weopon
Love it.
“Old is gold”
I had to watch this! When I was a kid this is the machine all the big pipe guys had. I was impressed then and still am! Simple, strong and reliable!
Damn she sounds good! I miss that raw diesel sound on the new equipment
2020jd I’m running a Volvo skid steer that has the similar raw sound. No radio so I just get to listen to a nice diesel :)
When you need a hole dug with a quickness! Nice old Beast.
Like your time with Charlie I know he is a good friend enjoy seeing all the older equipment serviceable.
That era of 235's are arguably the best and most reliable excavators ever made. I just goddamn love that old iron. And listen to that sweet diesel roar!
The Hitachi UH series….’with the stick controls’ was great too
Lol! Great point Charlie! That machine still looks to be solid! Love hearing that thing whistle. Thanks for sharing

Chris had finesse even on that old piece of equipment. Wow. Skills to pay the bills.
The old girl sounds sweet, could tell when operators changed by how smooth the machine did her thing digging, swinging and dumping. Chris is smooth handling.
This takes me back. I used to run an old 235 just like that. Big old machine.
Charlie and you sure have a great relationship, banter is fun to listen to.. big Cat just purrs..
Those 235s used to be everywhere. Have not seen one that clean in decades
Nothing is better than old iron. Those old cats will just keep on purring.
One of my favorite Excavators!!! Learned on this when I was 16 years old!
It's what i learned on at 15 or 16 too
Put many an hour in an old 235…they were a great old machine and quite productive!..hard AF on fuel but they could get a lot of work done with the fuel burned…this one looks like she’s DEF deleted!..haha!..great video!.👍🏻
Hey Chris that old timer can sure move a big bucket of dirt nothing wrong with how it works even with its age.
Chris. 30 years ago that was the baddest excavator in the valley. Nothing! Would come close!
We put a hydraulic thumb on that bad boy and built logging roads in the Pacific Northwest.
That machine has balls, listen to that thing rip!
The sound off that old girl is fantastic 👍
Boy, uncle Charlie sure know how to send it! Haha I think he had you beat on a heaping scoop. Lol good ole machines. They sure don’t make them like they used too.
Wow, Charlie takes a scoop when he digs!
Hey there Chris, you and Charlie sure do like to fill the bucket on the old girl and she still has an awesome growl for an old kitty. Top vodka as wade would say, stay safe ,Cheers and beers from Aus
Very good sound of the engine :)
My grandfather worked for CAT for 30 years. He helped build them big yellow beasts.
Would be cool to see one of these old irons be rebuilt
The 235 was a very popular excavator. Was the workhorse for alot of companies in the 70's and 80's.
This is also wen cat didnt have to deal with all the emissions regulations we have todau
Truck loading conasuarr right. Chris needs that at the lake job
Cowdenbeath Scotland,1981-82,Alistair operated one of these,we used to ride in the bucket back to his refuel point at end of his shift, great memories 💚🙏🏾
Sure can tell which operator is truly connected to his horse.
NIce machine

I can't tell you how many loads of logs that a 235 has loaded on me here in Oregon. Great machine.
Was she tight, Charlie? You two are definitely a hoot!
Cool piece, that fluid puddle under it showed up pretty fast
Love how charile grunted
As long as you take care of it, it should last a long time.
got too admit Charlie is pretty funny. love the old machine.
Now that old girl can pick up a bucket load of dirt!
Anyone else agree that 12:14 would have been a good thumbnail
Another very good video and thank you for your time sending it out and keep your good work up
I really like the old school that's how the new school learn respect
LOVE the Gold Rush comment. To the seasoned, you can tell the sound and machines dont match! Quite often see teeth on a bucket one second and gone the next! The editing is shocking! ( watched every episode though).
That got damn Charles is a beast! Operator and equipment machanic
Love the old cat runs like a champ ☺
It’s like they say a cat has 9 life’s so it hard to put one down
Oh man that is one big sand box! Sand box for big boys. How fun would it be to play with big equipment there?!
The good old 235 CAT great video
Back in the day these machines were great. But running them now, God dang there slow compared to modern equipment. Still good units but wouldn't trade my new one for it.
Motor sounds suuwweeet !!
Old girl sounds and works good nice machine she would make a nice back up machine 💪🙆
Nice Excavator Chris 🖒
Looked to me like the more he worked it the better it ran.
Yeah. Older CATs do better after they warm up.
Great video Chris thanks for sharing have a great day
My dad ran a 235 for a company he worked for .they are had a 235 B an a 235 C. They were good machines in there day. Before he retired they replacd them with cat 350's
That's a good sounding engine there the 225 from that era had the little V8 caterpillar on them with no Turbo
You sure 'bout that? Sure sounded like a turbo to me, whistling right along.
@@azwrenchmaster5334 yeah that one is it's got a big 6 cylinder it's a 235 I was saying how I remember the 225 had that little V8 with no Turbo
Oh, I gotcha.
That old gal purrs like a kitten
Very nice machine
That machine sure sounds good
cat 235 is the first excavator i ever ran. i loved that old girl
Put a Lot of seat time in these 235s.what a beast though
I don't own any machinery... but I am here!
So powerful
Your Valvos are nice Chris, but entirely lacking the cool factor of a Cat 235. Which of your excavators could that machine outdig? I assume the 160, but could it beat out a 210?
Yes and the 250 lol that's a big machine

I love operating those cat excavators it was a 325 and it can be operated very well and I miss that good sound
Still better than a new Deere!!!
Cool cat exvcator
When you buy an old machine how do you check the condition of the swing gear.... access panel/hole???
Feeeeeeeeeeel!
Now that is a big boy toy lol
Is there a way to delete def fluid and stuff on newer equipment and not have all the regulated crap on it?? Glad to see Charlie’s doing good and still has all his equipment. Does he still have everything or did he sell some of it?

Once the warranty expires. Who gonna know on off-road equiptment
WHAWWW! what a machine! ♥
was it leaking fluid under it? looooked like a puddle...?
Rain water running out of the turntable
Good ole cats there good engines
Best machines around, not like the crap you get now, all computers and zero emissions. which always breaks down or has problems.
Runs well for a preowned.
I'VE come to a conclusion Chris....I been hangin out wit u and ur people way too long🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣luv ur LD 18 design ~!
How smooth were the controls compared to the Volvo? I wouldn't expect them to be anything like it
Clean tracks daily ? never saw that before , does driving through a mud puddle count ?
Im not a cat man. Over anything else. But i can say my brotherinlaw bought a 211 cat brandnew in 1983or84. And he also has a 235 and d6 and 950. But i do know this he only operator of the 211. Caterpillar "around the clock, around the world"
Nice job at least
No quit in the old girl, is that a "tuned" exhaust?
If the 235 was a human being and any larger the doctor would call it morbidly obese. That is one big kitty CAT.
When you Google "Cat Excavators" the first thing that pops up is a link to John Deere excavators. I kid you not. LOL!
Great sound!!!
Thank you.
So this is what operators do in their spare time?
Damn that thing sounds savage.
1st excavator I ever ran 😱🙌✌️
Wow, how many yards of dirt can that thing hold?
A great old machine! ....13
The best oldtimer like liebherr
Chris can run that machine better than uncle Charlie
wow,thats sweet.
Is the exhaust tip missing?
Oldie but goodie
Chris what was the first excavator you ran?
that's a sweet ole girl thing keeps on running
They don't die, once that engine starts it pure brute force, no ecms to be flashed and stupid regens.
Beautiful
What kind of pit is that your digging in
Chris Is a Cat 235 Bigger than your 290 Volvo just curious about the brand name
