I remember watching this a few times as a kid when it would pop up on AMC movie classics on TV. I never knew the name of it. It randomly popped into my head and the only way I could figure out how to find the movie was to search for "old black and white Coney Island film".
I just read that this little known gem will be released on Blu ray in late March, 2013. I can't wait!!! I remember seeing this on TV a few times when I was a child. I hope others are excited as I am to finally be able to own a copy of this movie.
Our version of Coney Island in Chicago was Riverview and after seing this movie, the idea of collecting bottles to return for two cents each earned more money for me than my home delivery paper route because that was 3 cent seach but the bottles were free when you found them. You could also paint addresses on curb stones for one dollar each and the only materials you needed were black and white paint and stencils.
I love this movie! I have been trying to find this it for such a long time. I saw is a few times but I forgot the title. Thank you for posting the trailer.
@patrona115 I too remember this film as a child. I thought of it often, although I had never been to Coney Island, I remember it as though it were yesterday. I cannot tell you how many times I have thought about this film and refer to it as THE film that introduced me to cinema. Wow.
This is GOLD! Where'd you find this?? I'm a little surprised they didn't cover WHY he was at Coney Island. What a movie though, THANKS for sharing the trailer!
Funny how they didn't explain the "fugitive" part a bit more in the trailer. I suppose the bit about him thinking he killed his brother would have been a bit much, but there is not even a hint that he is a runaway.

I used to watch this when it'd come on HBO sometime in the 90s when I was a kid. I liked it a lot.

I miss what Bravo was as well.
Wonder: is the evocative harmonica soundtrack available?
