I am speechless Charlie. I am so proud of you...all that you have achieved for yourself and others. I cried and laughed at the same time. Your trail friends are amazing too. Keep living your dream love. Lots of love always, your mum xxxxx
Outstanding achievement mate! Iǘe tramped (hiked) all over NZ as a kiwi but always in awe of you special breed who traverse the entire length of the country. Must be such a mad rush of experiences and feelings and you captured yours wonderfully. Thanks for this, a heart warming tale of one manś adventure, the friends he made along the way, and a glorious walk DONE!! On ya brother!
Well put together this film, top quality production and editing. I’ve watched quite a number of hiking documentaries and this is definitely up there with the best in terms of professionalism. Well done for completing the thru hike very inspiring, great achievement 🙏
You're an inspiration Charlie! ✨️ I've loved following your stories every step of the way, and am so proud of you and your ability to dig deep and embrace the "suck" when you need to. All while admiring the beauty of life and being greatful for it. I miss you so so much! Can't wait for a day when we can reunite and share our stories ❤
Charlie!! Thanks so much for all your effort for filming and making this video, made all the memories come back flooding in, got a little teary eyed 😭 so good ❤
Hi Charlie. During a time when many people are deciding to just walk the South Island of Te Araroa, your film gives the most compelling reason to walk the North Island too. In the Maori language it’s called manaakitanga, generosity, hospitality, and caring for visitors. You find it everywhere in Aotearoa/New Zealand, but on the North Island of Te Araroa you’re passing through a much more populated landscape, where 75% of us live.
Thank you! Yes I’m so glad I walked the North Island, most of my best memories of NZ came from the north island! The people were all incredible! Everyone should hike it!
Amazing video! What an adventure! My dream is to hike the TA someday before I get too old 🤣. Love your video style and going to continue following you and cheering you on!
Hi Charlie, thanks for sharing your great film and showing the emotional highs and lows of the trail. Very inspirational! It looks like you changed your tent half way through, can I ask why? Thanks Sarah
Thank You for watching! Yes I started with a Tarptent Protrail Li (single skin dcf tent). It was quite small, terrible for condensation, and by wellington was falling to pieces! Worried it wasn’t going to survive the South Island with out some major repairs I decided to swap it for a Macpac Microlight! 1kg heavier but I felt safe and sound for the rest of my trip and could pitch anywhere with confidence! All part of the fun!
This looks sick! Can’t wait to fly over from Tassie and have a crack. What were the road sections like on north island? I’ve been hit by a car before on a run so kind of worried 😅
Deffo worth it mate!! Ahh yeah some of the roads are A) dangerous B) boringggg. I hitched here and there and so did many others, the official notes even suggest hitching on some of the really bad ones. said that some of the roads are dead quiet and some pass through some epic little towns… I guess it’s up to you what you walk!
Thank you! I the dcf tent was falling apart after the north island and I didn’t want to risk it on the South Island knowing I’d be doing long stints in the mountains. I played it safe and picked up a macpac microlight in wellington… loved it! Managed to sell it for about the same price at the end too!
I wore Inov8 roclite 275s. 3 pairs… bought 1 pair in Welly (yes the first pair lasted the full north!) and then the next pair in Queenstown) Bivouac are the only store that supply them In nz I think!
Thank you! I should probably tone down my language but I really can't help it! I did...the dcf ultralight dream fell apart near wellington so I swapped it out for a mighty macpac microlight and never looked back!
at 13:30 I was going for "Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see" I'm setting off in October from the UK, no plan apart from setting off with 3-4 days food.

cool vid. its along walk. good on ya.
why did you change tents?

I played it safe and picked up a macpac microlight in wellington… loved it! Managed to sell it for about the same price at the end too!
What brand was your first tent.
I used a Zpacks duplex which is great but single skin has its quirks.
Did you prefer the macpac?
Hey! My first tent was the tarp tent protrail li. Also single skin and although ultra light I wasn’t a fan of it. I quite enjoyed my macpac!
Can I ask what kind of shoes you wore and where you replaced them? Thank you and great video
I wore Inov8 roclite 275s. 3 pairs… bought 1 pair in Welly (yes the first pair lasted the full north!) and then the next pair in Queenstown) Bivouac are the only store that supply them In nz I think!
Awesome Charlie! So fun watching your journey ahaha the thick accent and swearing really makes this video! 😂 also did you change tent?

Good luck mate! It’s an epic adventure!
What went wrong with your Tarptent?
It fell to pieces after doing the north island, I wanted something stronger for the south.
