I love the way he plays it so freely and unwaveringly as he sees it , and as he wants to play it! Almost like he’s not even competing but simply loving the instrument and every aspect of the music. Communicating the spirit of the piece AND his own passion. That was NOT a “safe” approach but apparently, he was THAT GOOD!! And Oistrach sitting right there!! Best version I’ve heard or watched ever! Refreshing doesn’t even come close! If I had worn this piece out and then watched this, it would rekindle my original exuberance and I’d have to watch it at least a few more times while pinching myself to make sure it was real!! Thank you for posting this!!!
That's just incredible playing coming from a young guy at a competition - playing with a flair and devil-may-care attitude you don't see too often live in concert, let alone a major competition with Oistrakh sitting right in front of you......!
This is an impeccable performance in every way "brutal and murderous, this man has knowledge!!! it feels like an atomic bomb to me !! 🤯🤯🤯+ Jedi Master the force is with him 💙
Unreal playing and incredible! I heard Tretyakov live in the late 70s playing Prokofiev Concert no. 1 with the Cleveland Orchestra. Brilliant violinist but by then he had more of sledge hammer approach. I wish they showed more of him playing so brilliantly rather than showing so much of his renowned teacher, Yankelevich, looking so nervous and trying to get approval from the other teachers. I wonder what Oistrakh was thinking as this boy wonder took first prize?

It's very nice. But as many other violin videos, the video had been a little accelerated to make it brighter, and more virtuoso. You can see the same with some kogan and Oistrakh videos too. The proof is that the pitch is much too high, and the vibrato much too fast. Could they post the real speed?
really? i thought that a long time also but it seems like its real tempo!, they used to play a lot higher back on those days! Tibor Varga for example sometyimes played with a 450
Gabriel Cornet Yes absolutely right... It's stupid trick as these players are great anyhow... This tape is accelerated to 1 semi tone, the 1st note should be G but sounds G sharp.
Pierre-Alexandre Pheulpin "trick"? Dammit. If this is the kind of trick they used. There wouldnt be any people who watch him live and said it was the time of their live. Yes, there is some recording that is speed up. But do you think they hope to called to be one of the greatest violinist by using this trick? Come on
Gabriel Cornet Nobody "accelerated" the video, you idiot. The higher speed is the result of video transfer. On modern digital equipment the speed could probably be adjusted, but they did not have that back then. LPs from the USSR are also sharp by a half-step.
+Pierre-Alexandre Pheulpin "normal" speed FOR you ...you should say :) LOVE this tempo ! Only maybe he is NOT perfect on the saltandos ..but apart from that, this is excellent ...anyhow Liviu Prunario , plays this piece REALLY musical and posh .......AND in "A lower speed " :) Just for the record , Leonid Kogan plays in this (TOO speedy for you ) tempo !
+Pierre-Alexandre Pheulpin I DID understand ! and FOR ..ONLY FOR YOU ..he plays TOO FAST ...well The Matter Of Taste Is Like Our "Behinds" >>> DIFFERENT :)
you still don`t undertand... He's not talking about the veloticy of Tretyakov but the recording's speed. How can you know that? 1.- Have perfect pitch and realise that the sounding key is D flat major instead of C major. 2.- Don't be deaf, realise something is wrong, pick a tuning fork, and find out :)
+Marie Opsahl this piece is in C not C#, that means clearly the recording is speed up, of course it's not a matter of taste, it's corrupted recording... Also the vibrato is far to tight, again result of speeding up recording, anyway it's a well known trick to make sound more brilliant and impressive any recordings
No problem !... Is a fantasitic violinist anyway so this is my point, why doing this... I am violinist in Lille National Orchestra and I much appreciate beautiful performances as long as they are truly what the violist actually did ! All best :-)
you need to find a hole, find a sign, and on that sign please write the following: “I am sorry for being a complete and utter waste of human life”. Then you may place the sign outside of this hole and forever reside there, in your epic stupidity.
best rendition I've ever heard.
I disliked the piece until I heard tretyakov play it - astounding!
Try listening to Kogan, I feel his performance is more genuine and more natural, but both are good nevertheless.
Oistrakh on top

Tretjakov with the Brahms violin concerto in Münster/Germany was my very first classical concert in life. It was gorgeous.
What an experience that must have been!
I like it when people share that kind of thing!
That's just incredible playing coming from a young guy at a competition - playing with a flair and devil-may-care attitude you don't see too often live in concert, let alone a major competition with Oistrakh sitting right in front of you......!
insane that he's so much less known than other violinists.
I knew I recognized Oistrakh!

I hope it was the gulag right away for the person in charge of which camera angles to broadcast
Thanks! This treasure! Translation for english speakers at 2:25: "Professor Yankelevich, a teacher of Tretyakov is feeling nervous".
IVANKOVALE Thank you!
Yankelevich, a student of Leopold Auer, nurtured an entire generation of violinists
actually, the right translation would be:
Second from the left, it's professor Yankelevich, the teacher of Tretyakov... a nervous man.
Wow! I want to arrive to this level. So perfect...
How’s your level now?

And for that he won first prize👏👏👏
Forse il più grande violinista
Absolutely amazing!
Premier prix mérité. Fantastique
One of the greats!
Awesome technique and phrasing BRAVO!!
needs more views. Oistrakh's gaze is at least intimidating but wow what a performance
The reactions from his teacher, Yankelevich starting at 2:09 and Oistrakh are priceless to watch.
One of Roman Kim's most important teachers.
Incredible!!

Deslumbrante interpretación del Prestigioso Violinista Viktor Tretiakov.
Brilliante! Che carattere!

4:12 Oistriakh's face xD
lol funny
Can't say I've ever much seen it different
Beautiful!
He is the greatest. But I would like to hear this in the original tuning not faster.
😂😂
Ma version préféré !
È meraviglioso, forza della natura

Much better then David Garrett will ever be!
Definitely. Does it even need to be said? 😉
Bravo !!
anna savkina also plays this too. I love both versions though.
I'd shit my pants having someone as great as Oistrakh judging and watching my playing. lol Still a long way from this highest level of skill though.
BRAVI MAESTRO !!!!!
Brutal. 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻

Straordinario!
Russian Videos, please convert back to normal speed... A semitone too high with speeding up lol
+Pierre-Alexandre Pheulpin "normal" speed FOR you ...you should say :) LOVE this tempo ! No this is a old tape
BRAVOOOOO
You still don't understand! He didn't actually play this fast, it is the playback of recording that is faking the speed

+Pierre-Alexandre Pheulpin ALL the best back to you too ( I,m a violinist /violist too) , AND
Bonne Nouvelle Annee :)
It's not speed up. He is playing that fast, it's just pitched up. Happens with a lot of old recordings.
Awasome...
Reminds me of Josef Hassid 🤗
this guy is handsome
wow!!
Wow
Before synthetic core strings🗿
Yes
Amazing, later he became so heavy sledgehammer approach. Still great, though.
Oistrakh observando....danke sherin krederdt
Did he win the competition?
Cecy Velázquez to my knowledge, yes he did.
he did en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Tchaikovsky_Competition
yeah

this is too clean. it pisses me off how clean it is
Enfoquen el violinista!!!!
Sorry to say not good.

@@DankChallenger this is hilarious, hahaha... Thank you for your reply.
Horrible. Plowed right through it. No nuance or subtlety. Of course all his teachers were on the jury.
Incredible!!!
