A Chelsea Pensioner told me once, the reason for all the red uniforms was because it was the cheapest colour to make.
Or it was red to hide the blood.
@spotty_cat26 I was having a tour of RHC when the pensioner asked if we knew why the uniforms are red, and we all said "Hide the blood?", and that's when he told us about the reason being the cost.
The French (our enemy) wore sky blue uniforms, it was only red to distinguish British soldiers from the pesky French.
It’s a nice little museum, you get a discount if your a member of the CSMA ❤
Come back to bourton (bore ton) for the museum… I’ll take you round, it’s my local. Also some awesome other car stuff round here. 😊
I would've been interested in your take on the A417 missing link works at the Air Balloon
Yeah, that would certainly be interesting
I strongly disagree with the decision myself, destroying a 200+ year old pub for a piece of dual carriageway. Remember going in there when I was younger!
Thanks John.
Would love it if you did a ‘driving home for Christmas’ tribute vid, with your characteristic blend of passion and ambivalence for the places you pass.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who can't be bothered with checking opening hours before visiting a place. I went to Vienna some years ago, wanting to experience a concert in the Musikverein, known for the New Year's Concerts. They hold concerts six days a week in summer. Guess which day I spent in Vienna...
Brilliantly informative interesting episode
Superb Jon
Myself and the Mrs spent a weekend in Bourton on the water back in the spring. Lovely place. I wouldn’t be overly disappointed about the motor museum being closed. It’s ok but you’re not missing a great deal.
Great video Jon, have a good week
I remember Cirencester being pronounced "sissiter", for those who like that sort of thing.
Sorry you finally visit my county of residence to find the weather crap and the museum closed. You'll have to come back this way in the summer. Loads of things to see, it's a big county. I was in Ciren today too (Siren-ses-ter). Would have lost my shit if I'd seen you filming, then gone all shy. Thanks for keeping me entertained throughout the year, looking forward to more of your shenanigans in 2025.
Quite interesting. Well done.
Jon, love your channel! Please consider picking up a "noise cancelling* microphone for your outdoor shots.
Hi. The town you called "Cirenster" is in fact Cirencester (Si-ren-ses-ter). Fantastic video though. What a shame the motor museum was shut for the winter. Maybe you could arrange another trip in the spring or summer to visit it again.
That motor museum was Home of Brum the kids TV series. I’m pretty sure there’s a model railway or gardens near there as well
Love Morton. And the Cotswolds. Holiday there all the time.
More journeys to closed places please. :) A traditional winters day out!
You'd have driven past the rather fantastic Retro Computing museum The Cave on the road between Cirencester and Stroud. Thoroughly worth a visit if you've even a passing interest in playing on some old skool hardware.
Just down the road from Cirencester, or Ciren as the locals call it, is King Charles' pad at Highgrove in Doughton near Tetbury.
I don't think they'd be too happy with an aerial shot there!
But you used to be able to book onto a tour years ago.
Also some of the pubs nearby that Wills and Harry frequented and was in the news years back
LOL... Cirencester = siren...sester . Sadly lived there as a youngster in the late 60's. Love your work
Golden channel!
Shame you missed out on the museum, it's a great place. Maybe a return next year in the summer?
I’m glad it’s not me who struggles with place names 😂😂
Siren cester
By Thames head is the Thames and Severn canal (Cotswolds canal) just up in the bank behind it. I’m going to do a video on that section over Christmas.
If you look at my videos I go into the tunnel with Paul Whitewick it’s the other end and pretty cool with the collapsed sections. It’s a big tunnel as it used to take Thames barges which are much wider than a standard boat (15ft wide rather than 7 for a narrowboat)
The prison does a banging bacon butty, proper farm bought bacon, not the thin crap you get in Tescos
You missed a really cool cafe as well, the airport at Kemble has one by the runway and you can also tour a plane.
Stroud also has quite a few cool places, in Brimscombe there’s a place called Stroud brewery, banging grub and decent beer brewed on site right next to the canal.
Can you tell I’m fat and like canals? 😂
I enjoy ur videos so much thank you so much. 👏👍👏
Thanks Jon for another year of funny and interesting videos. Hope this will cheer you up a bit after finding the Motor Museum shut for the winter. Hoping you have lovely Christmas and a Great New Year!
Thanks a lot, I'll put that towards the entry fee when they reopen in bloody February...
Perhaps a smidge unkind to Gloucesterstershire (I think I got that right) Jon - it is, after all, a county that lies between one other county and another, if not more (none of which I am able to name, but that's not the point).
P.S. I found the button that said "Subscribe" so I pressed it.
P.P.S. There are several somethings in both your research and your delivery that remind me more than somewhat of Jay Foreman/ MapMen. I don't suppose there's any chance of umm, one of those interweb crossover thingies? Perhaps.
P.P.P.S. Sorry about the motor museum. I hope they've learnt their lesson.
Closed for winter.....
Not fwickedsweetawesome
Whicked, not fwicked.
I have to say have been interested for years wondering where the tames starts and now. Know
Thanks John 👍👍🇦🇺
Interesting fact. All towns ending in Caster or Cester and Chester started life as Roman camps or forts, from the Latin Castra
Woopie another chimney!
