I see the opportunity for a Drinking game here. Take a swig every time he mispronounces a place name. Though perhaps not to be encouraged on a driving channel. You may very quickly get hammered, depending on what your dinking.
I live in Gloucestershire and when my son was little he would call Tewkesbury “Twixbury” which I think is an improvement on the original. Locals call it “Chooxbry” by the way 😊
Any TV show that talks about an area or a city the camera always have the best shots of a cathedral or a bridge, maybe a statue as an opening...but Jon decides "nope that abandoned trolley over there is where IM starting" a true professional that gives us the REAL Britain....and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!😂
I've been to Cinderford. I did my shopping there whilst camping at Bracelands. I didn't know about the rusty pole. Perhaps one day I'll revisit and take a picture. Then again, perhaps not.
Before I even watch this episode, I'm glad you came to tewkesbury where we you can do a charity shop, coffee shop and pub crawl! Possibly don't do them all at the same time! 😂
I'm sure John provides clear and precise pronunciations for his American viewers who might struggle with English place names when they visit and don't want to look foolish when they murder the English language.
Great! You missed a trick at Mitcheldean (‘Yeah’), which used to be the home of Rank Xerox’s photocopier factory (Yeah). AFAIK, aside from the rusty pole, Cinderford’s famous only as the the birthplace of Mrs Thatcher’s favourite interviewer, Radio 2’s very own Sir Jimmy ‘what’s the recipe today, Jim?’ Young. ‘Nuff said.
Builded is actually a valid word, just uncommon now. You see it in a lot of older songs, for example "They builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps" from the battlehymn of the republic.
Jon I hope you have an incredible Christmas and an Awesome New Year and I hope Project Gilroy is coming along nicely, cant wait to see your next video on that!
5:55 That's actually a thing that happens quite a lot in the US. Right now there's a something like 16 state lawsuit against Glock trying to bankrupt them with this being one of the issues brought up in the suit.
@@davidhull1481 It amazes me that people can have the attitude you do. I mean you have the entire rest of the world to look at to see how disarming the populace, stripping away the right to self defence, and so on ends up and you still want it.
I’m always impressed by your regular ability to mispronounce place names, throughout many an episode - even well known places such as Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. These rank amongst your best yet! Although I suspect this ruse must help with driving up comments? Doh! Another fine episode though all the same 👍
Congrats on finding a museum that isn't closed for winter. Edit: and then you go and top that with a rusty pole! You're fully spoiling us with this one, Jon.
Geez there’s me getting my hopes up based on the thumbnail statement‘England’s dangerous tradition happens here’ and a picture of a Heath. I thought it was going to be a review of Gloucestershire’s dogging locations.
Hello, and welcome to the comments section. How the devil are you? Have you had a good week? My name is Hal. Thank you for joining me for another exciting journey through people’s random thoughts on one of Auto Shenanigan's videos . . .
My weeks been ok. Went and pet some reindeer and the wife held a little piglet. That was the highlight. My cat's getting pretty bad at being alive, old and creaky. Worst part. Did do the old Christmas dinner with the fam though, that was loud and a bit of a ruckus. Is the Rusty pole a bit like that amazing tunnel in Bude, the one outside a Tesco or something...
Happy days Jon, let's all take a moment to see if that museum is open? Twerksbury looks aptly named, thanks for coming Seriously nice timber framed btw
If you enjoyed the Rusty Pole at Cinderford, you may also enjoy the Small Concrete Hut near Land's End. Only a matter of time before they get into Lonely Planet.
i have a good recomendation for if you are stopping in Tewksbury which is to stop off at the Nottingham Arms, also there is the Healing's Mill which was a long standing mill that heavliy relied on the river severn and Avon for transporting grain to the mill ect via the The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, also beware of segulls, and I mean a lot of segulls in Gloucester, and this is from experiance...
Thanks again for Another great video Jon ✌️😎 . 2025 come to Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire were the King's estate is , Scotland am intrigued to see what your guide book has to say has aberdeeb quite old city . Never the less have great festive holiday have great Christmas 🎄 amd new years if don't upload before than ✌️
the motor museum, i am told opens in February 15th i think. i am assured that Beauleiu, is open 10-5 over winter except Christmas day, though i wouldn't open new years day either cars and hangovers not good mix
You absolutely nailed pronunciation of Tewksbury, but may I suggest that Cheltenham is is spoken as Cheltingham and Gloucestershire is definitely Glou-chester-shire. Good work with Mitcheldean, concise and correct.
I've been to Cooper's Hill a number of times. I've never run down it, though. Anyone willing to run down that hill should be declared clinically insane.
I wonder if the stink pipe up the side of my house could become a tourist attraction, it has a sag in the bend around the gutter and the Crows have nicked the Crow guard off the top.
Oh wow! I thought this was going to be a boring video but at about 7:26 in the video that all changed. How interesting! Edit for spoiler: A world famous clock tower, the castles of the British Royal Family, all of the rich historical landmarks the UK has… None of it has inspired me enough to “cross the pond” to see it. But the Cinderford Rusty Pole?! Let me book my ticket! 😜
At this point I'm convinced the pronunciations are deliberate. ❤️ Solid fly joke too. 😀
"Who doesn't know how to pronounce English place names?"
...make that One type of fly found nowhere else in the UK... 🤣

I think you’re correct, Glow-sess-ter is pronounced wrong too.
Any TV show that talks about an area or a city the camera always have the best shots of a cathedral or a bridge, maybe a statue as an opening...but Jon decides "nope that abandoned trolley over there is where IM starting" a true professional that gives us the REAL Britain....and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!😂
The true landmark
I could be wrong, but I suspect Jon is a little salty about the Cotswold Motoring Museum being closed for winter. 🤔
So then take another route that pass by it in the summer and leave some quirky remark on it.
Didn't notice that..
Oh, is it closed for the winter?
He could always visit the Tewkesbury Museum. Unlike the Cotswald Motoring Museum, that is open year round.
It’s closed? Why hasn’t anyone said?
I had about 5 minutes of not knowing what was going on with your pronunciation before the joke dropped and I have to applaud the dedication
Twerksbury threw me until Gloster and the 'who can't say english place names" excellent humour.
There is a definite Philomena Cunk air to "The building was builded in 1650, most likely as a house, or somewhere to live." 😄👍
Jon ………. the best stand up comic on RUclips 👏👏👍😀 His comic timing is 👌
Can't believe you passed up the opportunity to lob the drone up over GCHQ while you were in Cheltenham...
And a fat security woller will waddle out.
Everybody knows what the outside looks like. It's inside where all the fun happens.
Have a whicked, sweet and awesome Christmas Jon. 🎅🏼
Pure childish humour and antics, utterly brilliant! Have a great Christmas Jon.🎄👍🦊

He’s a card isn’t he🤣👌🏼
Another brilliant example of town name mispronunciation- well done ❤
Loved the fly gag - very funny
Best epsidode yet! Sorry you had to visit Cinderford though.
The trolley in the opening shot seems to have polished up rather well Jon, life in a canal usually gives trollies a very dated look
That fly joke is brilliant. And OMG the way you're on the swing.
Great!

EMF come from cinderford I used to see them in the pub
I’m definitely going to the Cotswold Motor Museum over Xmas Holidays. Does anyone know if it’s open as I don’t think Jon mentioned it 😉🤣
😂 Thanks. That must be the sixth time I have laughed at the same joke.
The content, the editing AND the delivery? A trifecta of greatness, thank you.
I liked the word “builded” nice one Jon
He wanted to say buildinated, but was dissuaded..
From that hymn in Chariots of fire, innit
Like in the poem "And was Jerusalem builded here," yes, good word
Builded is actually a valid word, just uncommon now. You see it in a lot of older songs, for example "They builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps" from the battlehymn of the republic.
@jimmydesouza4375 Yes, I am with you on this. Some say it's been replaced by Built. In my opinion, but are good, but Builded is a nicer word
Love your humorous and light hearted presenting style. Keep up the good work.
Trying to watch this and not bust out laughing is hard, you had me in tears.
Another cracking episode. Get yourself up Derbyshire and have a bash at Whatstandwell and Idridgehay 😄
I Grew up not far from there, I remember once on the local news a Presenter once pronounced Wirksworth as Wicksworth 😄

Thanks Jon and have a good Holiday.
Great British humour at its finest, with highlights at @5:20 and @6:22 too. Merry Christmas Jon, hope it's fwickedsweetawesome

I liked it so much I pressed the button twice 😊
Looking forward to visiting the Cotswold Motoring Museum next week!

Wicked Sweet Awesome Jon, keep it up!
5:55 That's actually a thing that happens quite a lot in the US. Right now there's a something like 16 state lawsuit against Glock trying to bankrupt them with this being one of the issues brought up in the suit.
Thanks, I was going to mention this. Since guns are treated like holy relics here this is one of the few ways to get at the problem.
@@davidhull1481 It amazes me that people can have the attitude you do. I mean you have the entire rest of the world to look at to see how disarming the populace, stripping away the right to self defence, and so on ends up and you still want it.

Definitely trolling with the pronunciations of towns & cities - love it! 😂
I like a cheese roll, and often have some pickle in it too. Risky, but not dangerous

The Cinderford rusty pole isn't the 8th wonder of the world. It's the only wonder of the world. So much more wonderful than all the other 7 combined.

Big fan of how you've fully committed to the bit of a heinous mispronunciation each episode now.
The most famous thing to come out of cinderford was EMF with a number 1 in the USA and 3 in the UK with unbelievable and they drunk in local pubs

Jon, I just need to inform you (if you weren't aware) that the Cotswold motoring museum is closed for winter!
Merry Christmas Jon 👍🏼
Love it, always makes me laugh....🤣
Rusty Pole used to work the comedy circuit in Warsaw.
Must be difficult to pronounce town names wrong like this, good work, keep it up, Jon. :D
There's a super abbey in Twerksbury - surprised that didn't make the 1920 guide. It's the only place that doesn't flood, afaik.
