this pastor didn't handle the situation properly at all. Christian doctrine says to turn the other cheek and forgive/pray for the offender, not dwell on how the offender hurt you. Putting Pence on the spot like that is hardly the behavior of a proper Christian.

The Sermon on the Mount & Epistles were written to & for believers, not unbelievers. The Holy Bible, from start to finish, was written to & for True Jews & Christians, not atheists & people who believed in pagan & other false gods (e.g., Muslims, Buddhists, Mormons, Roman Catholics, Hindus, etc.).

That was a technique which once was coloquially known as "loud talking" wherein one "called someone out", that is, challenged a questionable action, without using the name. Usually, the response of all in earshot would indicate that they knew. It was a wonderful ploy, left from the days of limited power, and it could hardly be challenged without the accused implicitly acknowledging by identifying himself. It generates, in the accused the same frustrations as the accusers have felt, when the smug perpetrator believes he is above reproach but cares nothing of the value of those he has hurt.
Pastor did the best he could to comfort his flock, to speak truth, to condemn evil, and to goad Pence into doing what he was put in that position to do: not to hold his power, but to remonstrate with the person he works with. Pence has a duty as a self -proclaimed "God before country" Christian. He alone has the opportunity to challenge the person in the Oval Office, as vice-presidents used to do regularly. If he chose to get angry and not realize that heart burning was a cold conscience trying to come to life, then he is reprobate, too, and Pastor can do no more.
It's sad, even pagan Pilate understood that power comes only because the Father allows, and he argued in behalf of the Lord. But Pence sold out for silver. Let us pray fervently that faith not wax cold, and the Great Commandment live on.
