With all of the technology that they put into these machines only the eligible pointers should light up on the bonus spin
Yes those pointers are lit up
Looking at those pointers I would of thought I won too
Marc you’re gonna get called to court as an expert witness with this explanation. Very good explanation.
It's a joke that karen even thinks that she can go to court with this and gets listened to. Dumbness of today world in so many perspectives...
OVERRULED!
Sir, you're the witness.
OVERRULED! lol
@@blizzart9191 She's following advice of sleazebag counsel.
@@55rhill he’s definitely not. He’s just a dude that repairs and sells slot machines as a side hustle.
The part of the story where she said she pushed the service button immediately drew my suspicion. Most slot players know you don’t need to push that button if you hit a jackpot.
I witnessed a woman win a $10k jackpot that was legitimate on a cruise, and she was ignored for 20 minutes. I finally asked a waiter to please ask a casino manager to come help the lady. I doubt they know anything sometimes. 😏
Exactly!
I won $12000 at Golden Nugget Lake Charles back in 2014 and they took over forty five minutes to attend me so I had to push the service button. The casino floor was pretty empty on that day. I finally got my payout but it took over and hour and forty five minutes to finally get paid. I’m certain that the casino wanted me to leave the machine so that they can avoid paying me.
I pressed the service button on my first jackpot I had no idea
When you hit a jackpot it’s says Call the Attendant. 😂
Marc such a great video, now it all makes sense, the game rules with the pics , I have never played this game, if I was playing and saw that I might very well have thought the same thing. Your explanation and expertise along with the pic evidence says it all.
This appears to be confusion based on an unfortunate set of circumstances and a classic example of how a situation with a simple explanation can get conflated and a false narrative spread far too easily in our society.
Had the player not experienced the reel tilt, she would have won the $350, been very happy, watched the win count-up and then pressed the button for the next spin, not ever questioning anything. Because she got the reel tilt after seeing "You have won..." AND the inactive jackpot pointer happened to be pointing at "Jackpot", she believed that she had won the big jackpot and then falsely assumed that because of the reel tilt she was somehow being cheated. The player is taking two completely unrelated events and conflating them as being related (in her defense, this is incredibly easy to do). Certainly plenty of bystanders around her were also fooled by the series of unrelated events, thus encouraging her false beliefs. Then the media gets ahold of the story and does not have all of the facts when reporting the story, thus extending the confusion. Finally, the player engages a lawyer, who is paid to advocate for his client, and will always take the side/story of the client. The lawyer magnifies the faulty assumptions of the player by citing other instances where the casinos allegedly "cheated" players, even though his assertions have no relationship to the facts of the current situation.
Your explanation of the situation across the two videos you have made is outstanding, thank you! I continue to be impressed by your channel presenting the topics you choose to talk about in a rational and logic way! Thank you for your continued efforts!
I think you nailed it with your explanation - I believe that is exactly what is going on here. It's a sad situation all around. Thanks for watching!
3 diamonds on spin reel. Two diamonds white, middle blue.
Diamond on spin symbol white! 😮
Pay the lady, both white diamonds on top reel.
Jackpot gets PAID.
Cha Ching. 🎉
Olu out.
How much did the game say she won right before it "tilted"? It was more than $350 or it would not have said "call attendant".
Since you explained it, it sure makes sense by looking at the wheel. Thanks Marc.
Your explanation makes perfect sense. It seems clear she did not hit the jackpot. Why is the casino saying the machine tilted, rather than explaining the rules of the game like you did?
I agree, i dont think she has a snowball chance in a microwave. But looking at the screens and listening to you explain the screens i get it..BUT i think the MFG of the game should have made the pointers light up in a different color or at least blink so the player knows which ones are active or not. But thats just my observation.
great breakdown. Thanks for the video.
Love it. Thank you so much for your thoughts and opinions! Makes sense!
Good Morning 🌞 Marc. Thanks for the information. Have a good day.
Thank you for the update, it is great to see the pictures which explain it all. She will have a lot of trouble trying to explain how she won. As I looked at the pictures, I could see that she had made a mistake on how much she won. Now I know if playing huge amounts of money or any machine with big payouts - be sure to check the rules/payouts. Thanks once again
Hello Marc! Great investigation and logical explanation of the facts.
Great explanation and makes total sense. It will be interesting to see the overall outcome for the player and casino.
Great explanation. Thank you.
Excellent breakdown. Thank you.
Thanks for the added info, Marc. She's lucky she got the $350 cause most slots say "Malfunctions void all wins." or something similar.
They do say that but if you get a legitimate win they do pay you.
@@Paul-vf2wl Good to know. I've only had tilts where the reel(s) kept slowly spinning. Had tilts this way twice within about 15 minutes on the same slot. After the 2nd time, the attendant took it out of service. No compensation asked for or offered.
Still don't understand why the casino worker wanted her to leave? Something smells fishy
Hey Marc. Awesome! Your so right game rules say it all. Case closed. Since you, Dave and Brantley have pointed out READ the game rules, that's the first thing I do on a game I have not played before and on the ones I have played but never bothered to read the rules. 👍
No it's not case closed. If the machine can malfunction on winning who's to say it can't malfunction when you lose money? Maybe it malfunctions and you lose and you're supposed to win? I would have the slot machine audited. A good lawyer will get this person a half a million easy. The casino won't want this bad press and whichever casino this was at I would never play there.
Great breakdown and analysis.
There is a statement that I have seen on every machine I have played - MALFUNCTION VOIDS ALL PAYS, etc. But the photographic evidence PROVES that she ain't got squat.
Why is it always a malfunction in winners though and never losers is my question? Like if you lose 500 dollars how do you know you weren't supposed to win at some point because of a "malfunction?".
I think the photo evidence along with the explanation of it is sufficient enough evidence to disprove her claim. This was a great analysis Marc.
Hey Marc. Great your doing. Keep it up. I'm a nerdy and read rules on new games. Ive never played this one so can you check if they define further on which pointer lines up with what symbols on the reel image? As the rule page on time stamp 4:45 just say combination which might be obvious to a pro player but to others it makes then assume and in this case the player has assumed wrong.
Thank you for explaining everything.
Perfect! Thank you
Great investigative reporting, Marc!
Hi Marc & Dave, Love the show!
One of the problems with this "TILT" scenario is that people may be reluctant to play slots from this particular manufacturer and even boycott them depending on the outcome of this lawsuit.
Your show is very entertaining, keep up the good work!
Patrick
Excellent explanation. This is a perfect example of why people should never jump to conclusions based on a "news" story. Most journalists/newscasters and their editors cover stories without having enough knowledge of the topic to present all the details. Even if they had the knowledge and all the details, they probably would have still chosen to cover the story in this manner, because "woman claims casino erased her jackpot" is a better news story than "poor woman played a slot without reading the game rules and now wrongly thinks she won." Hard to know whether she will end up having a case though, cause if they can convince a judge to hear the case in front of a jury I can totally see the scenario where all of the jurors eyes glaze over reading the game rules and rule in her favor.
BUT have you seen some jurors??
In theory, your explanation is great! The media does get stories twisted just to broadcast, however.... I don't understand how even some antifa members could get selected as jurors, but they do. 🤦🏻♀️
The slot attendant should have immediately explained why she did not win the million dollars and pointed out based on what the screen showed why she did not win and what she actually won. Why would the people around her say she won a million and why would there be a reel tilt on such a small amount? This whole thing makes the casino look bad.
I think the people around her just didn't understand the game mechanics either - I've seen that happen a few times. It's a very sad situation.. maybe she didn't think she won it, but then everyone around said she did. I suspect the casino tried to explain it to her, but she was in a mental state where it would be tough to accept - The whole thing stinks for her. :(
Part of the problem is we're only hearing her and her lawyer's side of things. I don't believe she got thrown out for no reason or that the attendant didn't explain it to her or even that the error message appeared after she pushed the service button.
Yeah, I have a tough time believing that as well. I think she was likely overwhelmed with emotion (understandably so) and was causing a scene. That's pure speculation though - we don't know what happened.
I don't know what casino this was but I've seen a lot of ppl get kicked out of casinos, and it's usually for being extremely loud and confrontational or too drunk and falling asleep on machines.
A real tilt can be on 10 dollars, if it breaks it breaks
That additional evidence sealed the deal for me too...poor thing didn't win the jackpot. But I agree wholeheartedly that the rules need to be front and center more on these games! You know people do not scroll through to read the stuff, so if nothing else, they need to put something like "you can only win a jackpot if XYZ occurs" on the first screen they see after you put money in. Then folks can play accordingly.
The rules are on every game nobody ever reads em lol
Wow Marc! Good eye!
Thank you! Now that makes sense.
Makes sense now, great explanation with photos
This makes sense. Any speculation on what caused the tilt status?
Nice, and simple enough to understand😊
Good, logical, solution. Way to go Marc!!!
I want to see the casino video. Was the pointer light on ?
I had a similar situation on Friday at my local casino, and I was told by a casino worker to hit the service button so someone could come over and help me
Great update. This is a great reason why you should take pictures and possibly a video of your win especially if you hit a progressive win or jackpot.
If they allow you to record. I told my husband that if something big happens, he’s to start recording until he’s told not to. But do not delete what he’s already recorded if possible.
As you mentioned, I can see exactly why she was confused and thought she won the jackpot. If you spin and receive a “Spin” of one diamond, only that designated marker should be lite up, not all three. People are visual, not analytical beings, especially in situations like this. The casino has a very good case to reject the payout, but I would try to get to a reasonable compromise, after all they created this situation thru problematic and some could argue, deceptive displays. Just my opinion for what it’s worth. 😊
Great explaining all of this Marc!
My original question was, if she won the jackpot, why did she have to push the call attendant button? Most jackpots the attendant is automatically called. She had to push the button because no attendant was needed because she only won $350!
As always, great info, great video. Thanks!
To be devils advocate is says "active" pointers and if you look, the pointers that are "active" are lit up...which if you look at the picture the jackpot is under a lit up arrow...or is it the arrow that is lit up blue? That could be adding to the confusion.
I totally agree with you on everything, thank you.
Why are 2 POINTERS lit when the spin had only one pointer on it?
Just a side effect of when the person took this photo. Whenever a WOF machine isn't being played, there is an animation going around the wheel where the lights are circling the wheel.
How did the tilt activate is it cuz she hit the service button idk if i missed that part but i understand the rest.great explanation
Very clear explanation
Also it was odd that she said she pushed the call attendant button, which you don’t have to do they know
This explains it a lot better, but what I'm looking at that picture there are two pointers that appear to be lit up
This is fair and square explanation. Easy to understand and acceptable.
A picture says a thousand words. Great explanation.
Marc a picture is worth a thousand words!
I agree with you. Yr breakdown and reading of the rules, together with the pictures, say it all.
I'm sure if that was me playing and I saw the jackpot land on the pointer, I wld, at that moment, think I won it too.
It's the excitement of it.
But she definitely did not get the 3 pointers and that's, Case Closed.
Thank you Marc for following up with this. Enjoy you both for the info u bring to us. It teaches us, what to expect, what we should do etc, if ever caught up in a situation.
Feel bad for this lady. I wld be in deep depression. 😢 Ha😊
I feel bad for her too - who knows, maybe something will come of it.
I totally agree. However in the picture it has 2 pointers lit. That in itself would create confusion.
Is there a chance that you or someone with your knowledge would be called in as an expert witness in this case? You explanation is extremely easy to understand and would be helpful in this case.
Marc nails it 100% breaks it down perfectly . Its so clear once he goes through it great job mate. My story is a little different and only evolves a few £ , I hit a bonus on ""rise of Anubis" in a UK bingo hall game malfunction and did not play the bonus i called a attendant and she said we will check the logs . A few days later i got a call they only offered me the 11 free spins in cash on my bet so £11 win. The game did not even log a bonus or a amount that it should have payed out . I challenged this and it turned out i was right i got the full bonus amount of 45£ i still think these casinos or gambling establishments try to cheat you sometimes . But on the Jersey case i think the punter has not got much chance in court
You have a flaw.. That photo was taken a few days after you said? How do you KNOW that machine wasn't tampered with or that the wheel hadn't moved since her "win"??
Another great explanation. The rules need to be changed!! The casino and the manufacturer should be responsible for tilts. It’s their jobs to maintain the slots, they are willing to put it on the casino floor and take your money to play it. They should split the costs of the Tilly or malfunction or buy insurance to cover payouts that are falsely given in a tilt. A car manufacturer has a warranty that is honored. The consumer doesn’t have to take on a cost that the manufacturer should have done right. The laws should change!!
We have that similar wheel of fortune machine!! It always resets to that wheel screen after win!!! At our local they always complain because after win is paid out it goes to jackpot on main screen! I think the pointers should not reset to a “jackpot, major, etc”
Well said, Marc!...
What makes this even more confusing IMO is that when you look at the picture, the two outside pointers are lit up white as if they're active with the center pointer appearing to be inactive with the dull blue. So I get what you're saying about the wheel symbol on the right real showing the one center pointer and the game rules explaining that and agree with your take. But visually it kind of does look like it's on an active pointer.
Two questions one it says * 2. the other question I have is who decides which wedge is the right wedge maybe the wedge with the jackpot is the right wedge
The spin symbol clearly has the center wedge on it if it had the left wedge or all 3 wedges she would have an argument.
Ah. Great evidence, Marc. You did a great job explaining all of this. I don't think that lady's winning this case.
Heart break for her but the way you explain it makes sense. Too bad the Casino wasn't kinder to her.
they should change that game to only light up the pointer(s) on top that apply to the particular spin/win to avoid confusion! all 3 should not light up if only one of them is applicable!
“Elementary Mr Watson”. Good Job Mark, you’ve solved the case!
She pushed the Service button because of the REEL TILT message. The device had locked up. When this happens there can be no further play or ticket out.
It locked up before she hit the service button. She probably did hit it, but it was already locked up with the tilt.
In the photo it looks as if the left ( and right) wedges are illuminated. I thought only active wedges should be lit up?
Is that a current photo of the machine? Does it have to remain there during the investigation?
Yes. It looks very clear based on the picture that was taken and the rules provided. It didn't help that somebody told her she won a jackpot.
Great presentation of the scenarios about how the different pays work. And your right about the burying of important factors that determine a win on a game.
But having said that... I think IGT hit a grand slam with the original Top Dollar series but failed on the newer orange series by having too many menu options. Maybe its on purpose, or maybe its to throw you off but unless you hit max bet every time you switch either the denom or the 3/5/9 different lines on the games, it will likely land on a dead bonus (by design) if you don't cross your t's and dot your i's (twice) first.
It seems as though its too much of "do this" & "not that" unless you stay on the same game throughout the session.
I've seen original Top dollar pros screw up more than once on these (including me).
And I'm convinced this "slight of hand" programming is on purpose to extract every damn dime from your wallet.
Its sorta like the way that the close wins are injected into the program, only worse.
Or maybe I just analyse my frustrations too much.. haha
No new top dollah for me....
I think the multiple pointers is confusing as you know what. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often with people thinking they've won. Brantley recently told a story of a woman betting $.25 and winning 4 credits. She did not understand why the machine only paid her $1.00 instead of $4.00. I'm sure this was explained to the "jackpot" winner but her mind was closed to the facts. Hopefully she doesn't get any messages from men working on oil rigs, who need gift cards for food or medical care. Not nice Claudia!
The fact that they were all lit is definitely confusing only the center one should have been lit.
I agree with you 100%
I think you should do a series about every peoples favorite games for example one episode just about Buffalo link and how exactly the Slot plays etc.
The problem here is that the lit up pointers are pointing at the jackpot and 125 " not " the 65 . Am I wrong ?
You aren’t wrong, but it’s adding to the confusion, because this is the default state whenever the machine is in the locked position. It could also be in its default animation state. Regardless, only the center wedge was eligible due to the base game result.
Ya…it’s a shame for her. I think she doesn’t have a case. You did a great job breaking it down. I guess it shows we all need to take a minute and read the rules!
I can only imagine the feeling after you get a line hit that looks like a jackpot to only find out it isn't. She probably was unaware of the game rules, and the people in the casino also did a bad job at explaining this. It's unfortunate that the machine also malfunctioning just makes it worse.
Those 3 pointers look lit up bright. That shouldn't be, I feel like the pointer in play should be a completely different color. Like green or something...thats where I can see the most grounds for big confusion. I think you're correct though at the end of the day and it'll be a crazy raw deal if she wins this case.
Since the game isn't currently being played, WOF defaults to an "attract" mode, which the LEDs in the wheel go in a circle. When he took that picture, that is what it was doing.. so it appears as if pointer 1 and 3 are lit, but they aren't. Those only light during the bonus round itself.. not in a tilted state or game not being played.
@@GambleSmart Ohh that makes sense! Such an unfortunate situation for everyone involved.
You nailed it.
This vid explains it well. Journalism (Fake News) says 1) denied- by whom? 2) $1.2 Million jackpot- shows $350 win, 3) Malfunction- where is that? my previous comment was: What did she do wrong- Answer- Did not know the machine rules. Thanks for this explanation.
Probably, best to contact gaming control for the state you live in and play in. In Nevada, if the casino claims a malfunction, you can call gaming control and they will come and thoroughly, check the slot machine and determine if it was in fact a malfunction. If not, the casino will be ordered to pay up. Now, if it is a malfunction then, atleast, you know you were not ripped off as gaming control checked your slot machine.
Then why are the left and right pointers lit up?
It sucks for her , it really does but you explained it perfectly . It’s all very unfortunate .
Not knowing the game, but it looks like the left & right arrows are lite up rather than just the center arrow, but I could be wrong.
Good explanation, but why are two pointers lit on the wheel? One pointer includes the "Jackpot $" symbol.
We are gonna talk about that tonight. It’s either the default state the game goes into when disabled or it’s the default animation of the wheel lights. Regardless only the center wedge was eligible based on the reels.
A jury may award her the jackpot based on the fact that IGT was negligent in constructing a machine that can falsely produce jackpots. Otherwise, the case will likely settle out of court. In the meantime, IGT must redesign their WOF machines to not allow this to happen again. Also, this case is not a good look for the casino.
the design of the game is confusing. they should program it so that the only the active pointers are very bright during the spin, and the others are dim. because the pointer on the jackpot is the brightest in the photo and that is confusing. if you never played the game, it would be hard to pick up on the subtle variation in notches at the top of the wheel symbol
but based on the rules, I agree it is unequivocal that the wheel payout was 65 * 2.
Clear explanation but only odd thing it why the center pointer is blue and the other two are white. I would think it should be the other way around.
The poor lady is spending more than $350 for a lawyer for a lost case.
You need to remember this scenario has already played out in court previously, and the court sided with the player!
Why are pointer #1 and #3 lite up. The center one is not.
I get all.. but why are the 3 pointers with light on? Is it always the case even if you hit only one pointer? 🤔 Just wondering.
They aren't, when the machine is off or locked, the ring around the top of the wheel has a "light show", look at a WOF not being played and you'll see it.
Should have labeled it PART2! I almost missed it cause I thought it was the same one haha
Why was the 2 wedge lit up and not the middle?
That is the confusing part
I get everything you said. I don't see a wheel tilt though. Where's the "tilt".
This video is based on the results of the respin. The original Jackpot spin was won on the center wedge but was voided on the reel tilt error. I'd take this video down and redo it. But it does explain why the respin didn't win the Jackpot on the left wedge.
Wonder. Y u have two of them lite?the 65 not lite?other two brighter then the single 65?
Do some slot machines have motion sensors because some machines seem to chirp at you when you walk by them.
No, that's just the "attract mode" going off - it's timed to go off at certain intervals (if enabled).
Weird. My comment was deleted. The wheel originally stopped with jackpot in the middle. NY post has the original photo before they "spun it off" and moved the wheel position. The photo in the video is taken way after they spun it off. Very misleading.
We just released a new video stating this. You are correct.
That is why reading the rules and understanding the game is important!!!
My problem is the pointer for the jackpot is lit up and the actual "win" pointer is not lit up.
Mark your opinion has merit however you would be a great expert witness. However historically the jury in corporate greedy casinos favor the plaintiff.
This will be a good case to see it's outcome?
Your explanation is correct, according to what's on the screen, verses the wheel. but let's say the game is electronic verses real wheels, cause I think the new ones are. Who is to say the diamonds on the the reel lit up incorrectly and the wheel spin was correct. just a different way to look at.
So Why is the jackpot pointers lit up???
Excellent update makes it clear from the 2 photos there was no million win. One thing that would seal the deal is if any photo exists before the tilt and which lights of the 3 were lit. As for now I agree that she is wrong claiming she won. Knowing the way many lawyers work they will most likely pursue this and hopefully IGT and the casino will with further investigation and evidence go all in to fight this. It is still sad to see things like this happen and I am sure her explanation is not 100% reality of the full interactions with the casino staff either.
It does - we got a new photo tonight. Stay tuned for video in the morning. It changes a lot.
