We were at Berklee together in the late 1970s. We palled around with the same bunch of guys in the dorm at 150 Mass Ave. We both were from Baltimore so we had that in common, I a few years older. He was always a gentleman and understated. I don't think any of us at that time knew how good he was. He never flaunted his ability. We were just too busy talking about girls, what we were going to do on Saturday night, and listening to our own favorite bands on LP to know that he was about to become a global bass star. We couldn't see the forest. I have JUST learned tonight (3/13/20) that he died this time last year. I'm tearing up as I type this. What a mammoth talent. What a terrible loss. RIP, Jeff.

He was one of those guys who not only had great chops but played meaningful lines and phrases, frequently quoting famous melodies in his solos.

Jeff Andrews is a fucking super bass player yet unrecognized, I do not understand why? having played with the greatest is probably not a guarantee of recognition.

I just heard his name for the first time yesterday but I've been playing - across most genres - for 3 decades! Why?!!! What an amazing player and what a sad loss so relatively young.

Jeff started that gig. It was not a music club previously.I was on the road with him and we parked his car in New Jersey, walked across the GW bridge and went to the movies to see Purple Rain when it had just come out...then to the 55 the second time they had music..only a couple of people there in the begininng.Stern must have asked me a dozen times"am I using too much delay?"Every week week it got bigger.this was'84(?) I guess.Good ol days for sure.

Anyone know what happened to Jeff? He was too young to check out..After seeing him for years with Stern, Berg, Brecker, Steps and the like, he kinda dropped outta sight..no longer toured with those NY heavy weights and not any solo LP's put out...what went on in his life from the mid to late 90's till now..? He was a nice guy,,met him a couple a times when he was in Brecker's group and then again when touring with Stern..
