One person commented that this was meant to mimic a comic book page. Each part jump cuts perfectly so that if they were screenshots and put on a page, it would still be able to tell everything that's happening to the viewer. Damn, that's deep. I guess that commenter has edited comic book layouts before. Usually, they are staffed out like any other publication: the writers, the illustrators, the inkers (they determine what colors to put to convey the mood, VERY important) and the layout department. I saw a behind the scenes look with one of my favorite artists, the late Michael Turner. He did comics like Witchblade and Fathom and even collaborated with others to do Tomb Raider comics, which were big sellers. Met him at a Comic Con 12 years ago. Very nice guy. Am still saddened by his passing but I still read his comic Witchblade frequently.
I heard the two movies were supposed to be a single 5-hour film, but the producers decided that was too crazy. I've always wondered how this would have played out because the two movies are so different. This was a masterclass of a movie by Tarantino.

LOL Something that Harvey Weinstein would not be looking forward to, I am sure.
After this no Japanese pervert at her organization will even dare to look at a female coworker. Then again there is only the Boss, her translator that she doesn’t even need and her psycho bodyguard that again she doesn’t really need. 😂
I love when the camera instantly cut to her feet rushing to get in front of that man to sever his head. Such lovely dainty steps, and then the absolute violence afterwards

Well recently today I did quote the first few nice words of this in a small production group on Skype. All the way up to "...tell me so."
After that I said "So don’t worry. I won’t cut anyone’s head off, only your role."
Your coworkers keep bringing up your Chinese/American heritage?
Any time you want, it's a choice.

o-ren i feel like was one of the best leaders in cinematic history. i’m not saying this because of how good the movies are but because she is understanding, won’t underestimate someone, talented, and believes in honor and respect. she knows what she’s up against and can take other people’s thoughts and ideas and not murder them but when it comes to disrespecting her she will not hesitate to do something about it and i think that’s what made people truly fear her. definitely one of the best leaders

That's my favorite part. "Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion." Made me laugh so much!
I do love that shot where you don't even see Lucy begin to race towards Tanaka. She was so ready to take the life of a dissenter that she had her feet already on the table, sprinting towards him by the time the camera cuts back to her. It's a really great editing choice that helps speak to her capacity for fury and violence.
Not long after O-Ren insults Beas heritage the same way (silly caucasian girl likes to play with Samurai swords) and dies a similar death.
She did apologize for it though. Boss Tanaka was given multiple chances to do so...
Her curse returned to her.
@Unique08 She apologized only moments afterwards immediately before the final engagement and Beatrix accepted it without reservation.
damn i didnt see that
Sidewinder white people don’t really have heritage but I get what you mean
This movie is brilliant. Brilliant casting, brilliant pace, brilliant soundtrack. Just brilliant.
I heard the two movies were supposed to be a single 5-hour film, but the producers decided that was too crazy. I've always wondered how this would have played out because the two movies are so different. This was a masterclass of a movie by Tarantino.
Chill
Quentin tarantino is such a good director. The way the feels of the scenes change for each character is wild. The dramatic reaction of those at the table and the blood spatter is straight out of an anime. So many blended aesthetics in this movie
This is actually one of my favorite scenes in cinema history. I remember watching it as a kid with my father and we both gasped, then laughed uncontrollably. What an epic scene. Never gets old. Horror, shock, then laughter. Quentin Tarantino knows how to take your emotions on a roller-coaster.
That girl translating it looked more happy than the girl saying it lmao
As a half native herself, she most likely experienced how the Japanese treats anybody that is not pure Japanese so she appreciates when someone who is disrespectful gets punished for it. Lol

Y'know the funny thing is that Yakuza leaders are so surprised and scared of such violence. I mean dude... Come on. You are the mafia of Japan ffs...
The power in O-Ren's voice is so unbelivably terrifying. No one in the world besides maybe Beatrix or Pai Mei would have spoken up after she said her thing. Lucy Liu killed it
O-Ren is a better fighter than Pai Mei. only Beatrix can match her
@@UUSER142 o ren had beatrix dead she just didn't kill her. she let her back up to fight some more.which is dumb but its only a movie. Budd also killed her he should have shot her with real shotgun shells not salt ones. or when shes druged kill her by taking off her head
O-Ren vs Heath Ledger Joker.
Given that Sofie Fatale is half-japanese and half-french, I can see why she has a bigger smile than Gogo when Tanaka loses his head. Also helps that she's O-Ren's best friend.
This scene taught me a very good lesson at the time
Its not about what you say.
It’s about how you say it.
Well, that's one way of dealing with a racist misogynist
agreed
The only way, even.
Where did misogyny come in? I only saw racism.
I guess Tanaka won't be having an open casket funeral, since they can't find his decapitated head..
*****
About as much as calling a man a dick is misandrist.
Something cool I noticed: notice how sofie doesn't translate the actual reason oren chopped his head off, she never translates " the price you pay for bringing up my Chinese or American heritage" for the rest of the bosses. That way the bosses can never be certain what they have to say to die and will always be afraid and on guard.
darkpanda112 ### do you know the romaji to paste so I can learn the translation? Lol
Well, didn't she translate the, "No subject will be taboo-except for the one that was just under discussion" line?
I think it would be obvious why she cut off his head. He said what he said in the language everyone could understand and she didn't let him speak anymore after he said it but I do find that cool as well.
more like she shouldnt translate cause that was forbidden to talk about

Someone mentioned in the Oren Beatrix fight that Oren's katana not having a guard means she's very skilled with that weapon. Kinda makes this even more badass.
In a sense sure, but honestly there's really no need for any Katana to have a guard because their primary way of use is for slashing(usually), the straight "chokuto" sword's of the Ninja however were for thrusting and stabbing which made more sense to require a guard..
Wait, I thought it was so she could conceal it under her clothes without the telltale bump from the handguard...
