I have a suggestion to save some time getting the curve right. Subtract the high waist number from the low waist number, then divide that number by 3. That will be the amount of spread for each of the 3 cuts. Love your videos!
Thank you so much for the VERY clear explanation. You have a way of calmly and thoroughly explaining a complex, mind-boggling process. Most pattern tutorials lose me, because I want to understand WHY certain measurements are used. You do such a great job of not just throwing out measurements to blindly use in my own pattern - you taught me how each measurement relates to the body, and how each measurement will affect the finished product. I really appreciate you posting this! Thank you!
Cannot wait to try this method; I have been splitting my waistbands and adding a seam on the back but I want a nice clean looking seamless waistband for a change. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you so much for this! I am sewing some pants and I changed a few things and the band didn't fit. I tried the next size up and that was still too small. I was so dreading creating a band. I read a blog and was so confused. I watched your video and it was so easy to understand. I created the new band and my pants are looking GOOOOOOD!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much. Would this work with an existing waistband pattern piece (so the bottom measurement would be correct for the pants, but then overlapping at the top for the smaller top measurement? Hope that makes sense.
Thank you. I love that ruler by Dritz too. The whole system ❣as it help me maintain the integrity of my measurements. Gaining and losing 1/16 every other inch can throw things off a bit in the end. Anyway, thanks for this video. Adding that much seam allowance never occurred to me, as I've been trying to perfect this band for a while now. I/m sure I got exactly what I came for. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so so much. God bless you for sharing. Could you please explain to me a high waist of 33” low waist of 35” and band of 5”, which waist measurements do I use. Also could you please tell me where to get those weights. Thank you so much.
Thank you so so much for your info and also for the waist band . I made a palazzo pant with the your waist pattern and it came out wonderfully well. If I cut the waist band in a bias, would it turn out the same. Way. God bless you.
I cut my waistband on either length or crossgrain depending on the look I want and the pattern of the fabric. So, I don't put a grainline on it. But, if you'd like one, just draw it before you slash and spread.
Hi... 1. Do I cut out the waistband in bias, on the fabric? 2. Is this method applicable to stretch/knit fabric waistband as well? I have been trying to do yoga type waistband for my loose palazzo type pants with no side seams (i.e. with only inner seams). I encounter difficulty in attaching the waistband, because the waistband circumference comes out shorter than the pants waist circumference. Even after dividing each sides into 4 parts to attach, and stretching the band while sewing, there is a lot of gathering on the top of the pants.
Hello i draft the waistband from my skirt pattern but I did not succeed to sew it when I fold the waistband, for the bottom was larger:/ I don’t know where I got wrong .. can you help me ? Please
Style Sew Me thank you for you reply and i am sorry to answer you so late! I did a rectangular waistband due to time but I will try again a curved waistband by following your method and will see 🙂🙂

I agree, but the visuals help with the concept!
I was going to say the same thing.
Thank-you!
Good idea! Better than mine. I was going to just do half of the WB but I like your method better.

Yay that makes me very happy to hear! I know how frustrating that can be!😊

Makes so much sense. Thanks for this tutorial! Will try this method and hopefully the waistband sits better!! Thank you!

Use the measurement that goes with where you want the top of your waistband to sit. I got them from Home Depot. They're called washers.
God bless you.
Lovely video! 🙂😄

If you cut it on bias, I'd add a stabilizer to prevent it from stretching out and sagging around the waist. Test it and try it out.
God bless you.Thanks.
Is it possible to show a tutorial on how to make a blouse with princess dart. Thanks
So I cut 2 and sew together at the smaller waist side?
Can you do a tutorial on how to attach this waistband because I'm having trouble
Where do you get your blank pattern paper?
Please show how to cut the curved waist band on the fabrics fold
thanks for an awesome tutorial.
The way that I did it in this video, you can't cut it on the fold. It must be cut on the grain because there is no straight edge.
thanks
do u mind sharing the high and low waist measurements u got for urself in this video?
This video was so long ago that I don't remember.
Hi, great video thanks. Just one question, where does the grain line go.
I cut my waistband on either length or crossgrain depending on the look I want and the pattern of the fabric. So, I don't put a grainline on it. But, if you'd like one, just draw it before you slash and spread.
Can I ask u where u got ur cutting mat? It's huge and really practical. Thank you in advance

Genius! Thank you.
will this work if I want to make an high waist skirt
Yes!
Style Sew Me thank you, please make more tutorials

1. Do I cut out the waistband in bias, on the fabric?

For this curved waistband do cut two of these from the fashion fabric?
Yes ,cut two.
Great tutorial. Where do I purchase the pattern drafting paper?
I got mine tracing paper from Amazon.
Thank you
Hello i draft the waistband from my skirt pattern but I did not succeed to sew it when I fold the waistband, for the bottom was larger:/ I don’t know where I got wrong .. can you help me ? Please
The bottom of the waistband should match the top of the skirt where they are sewn together if it's fit properly.
Style Sew Me thank you for you reply and i am sorry to answer you so late! I did a rectangular waistband due to time but I will try again a curved waistband by following your method and will see 🙂🙂
This is great but I am confused how, with 4 equal sections, you allow for an overlap for the closure.
Sorry I don't understand the question. If you can ask it differently, I'll try to answer.
I think the ? Is how is the zipper allowance/opening included?
So long as you are labeling your curved waistband, go ahead and put the actual high waist and waist measurements on the pattern piece.
The way I eat pizza and my waist grows and shrinks - it would do me no good. That's a good tip though!
