WOW.. Great video easy to follow managed to sort my wiper/signal stalk on my golf my self saved me money I really didn't have to pay a garage to do it's just FANTASTIC!!!! Thank you 👍🏼😀
This was a HUGE help! Thanks for making this available. I was able to repair my broken ignition tab that fits into ignition switch with Pratley steel epoxy. Thanks again.
I was able to fix a loose yellow airbag connector on my B5.5 Passat using your instructions and a $15 VCDS. It saved me a visit to the shop. Thanks so much!
A M On my Passat I didn't need to remove the instrument cluster. I just pulled the wheel towards me and used a shorter screwdriver to pop the airbag locks.
Man, I can't thank you enough for this video! I thought my ignition switch failed, but when I removed it I found it was the post the goes into it from the ignition lock! Scared shitless about messing around with the airbag, but you made it a breeze and helped build my confidence. Managed to fix the problem after finding the part for $30! Lord only knows how much it would've. Cost if I brought it to the shop! Thanks again!
Thanks Buddy, Love all your videos, all done in a simple, very clear and practical manner, so far you have saved me thousands; by me doing DIY repairs on my BORA after watching your videos.
Thank you//I can't get the airbag(srs)light off on my 2001 Polo but a recent Vagcom scan gave a code of N95 which says the airbag is faulty//This vid has just made life a little easier :-)
I have an 03 GTi 1.8T and it came with an audi wheel that I want to install. Ive been putting it off, but thanks to your video and me being tired of that audi wheel laying around, Ill most likely swap it tomorrow. Thank you.
Was searching for how we took out the instrument panel and finding this video very useful. Besides is like a 3in1 video :Removing instruments panel + Steering wheel + Airbag. Tks BMAC VAGS and of course i subscribe for more video!
For those who dont know most vw steering wheels you can periscope in and out while the lever is flipped down for the tilt. You dont even have to use it if you have a bit socket for a ratchet.
Thanks for the tip! I didn't know that the steering wheel had the telescopic motion, that provides plenty of space to work without removing the instrument cluster.
brent shelton I was able to pull my steering wheel off by using your tip and a 5" long 5mm hex key. Very easy when you spin the wheel to gain access. I saw a guy in another video remove the lower steering cover and work from underneath, a lot less obstructions under the wheel. I didn't need to do that though. It literally took about 10 seconds on each clip with the allen key and wheel pulled out.
Thank you so much. Previously tried with a flat blade screwdriver and no joy. Then saw your video and used a phillips screwdriver which got the air bag out in a few seconds!
Thank You for watching, Yes I know you can do it like that, but I wanted to illustrate it in a idiot proof sort of way...lol Thank You for your comments
I was completely baffled as to how the airbag was held on - I could see no screw heads as expected when looking up the holes on the back of the wheel with a mirror, but this video made it abundantly clear that there were cunning little spring clips concealed in there which I would never have caught on to ! I might well have broken something before I saw this excellent video.
Easy to follow, to the point. Good camera views. U saved me hours of sticking a screwdriver in a hole trying to wiggle it about. Which i did not do (cough)
thumb up. Does removing the speedometer helps for the airbag light not to light or is it just to ease the screwdriver access the back of the steeringwheel?
Just ease. I did it without removing speedometer and if u dont turn ignition on, than airbag will not get fault. But on newer cars it will get anyway. Better remove battery cable.
This is a great video mate, it was really helpful, I thought it was going to be a real pain in the backside to do this, but after watching your vid, I now know I can do it myself, thanks a lot buddy, nice one. :-)
Awesome video! I have a 2009 rabbit. I have to fix the ignition this weekend. Its had resistance all week, finally won't turn passed the steering lock, but the wheel moves. Do I need to remove the steering wheel to access the ignition assembly? And how scared should I be of that airbag going off? Thanks!
I read inline that in a 99 very cabriolet there is foam or insulation that stops go he horn from honking in accident and that it can wear down. I think that happened in my car bc everytime I turn the wheel the horn honks. Did you find and insulation in the steering wheel the I could replace to fix this? Or if you had any other suggestions please let me know thanks
clear and helpful A lille bit more showing on the assembling clips will be great!

Hi. Thanks for sharing the video. I would like to ask you a problem that I have in my Golf 4 of 99, it is electric, the audible alarm of the position lights does not work for me (it worked, then no, later yes and now it does not) the open door lights do not light, the remote It goes badly enough (sometimes it costs to open), the electric windows do badly (mind that they react). I changed the comfort switchboard (scrapping) and the interior lights that did not work worked for me, I fixed some cables in the trunk that made it short, I checked all the fuses and I no longer know where to pull (absolute despair) if you could advise me it would be GREAT help, thank you very much in advance.
Why do you take the speedo cluster out? Just to show how??...cause it's not necessary. Also...It would help if you indicated what year VW this is, as the process is quite different from year to year.
Thanks for the tip and demo on the airbag removal tab thingies! :-) I'm looking at grabbing one of these in the pull-n-pay junkyard but unfortunately don't have the ignition key to turn the wheel: it is in straight ahead position.
Thanks BMAC VAGS. Is the speedometer out required as well as airbag and wheel, when replacing the indicator/High beam stalk switch in a 2001 MKII Seat Cordoba? And is it important to disconnect the battery first for an hour? And finally, will the radio need the reset code afterwards?
Hi mate could I remove a clock from a 2003 model to fit in my 2000 golf mk4 both are gti mine is a agu the clocks that's gonna be used are from the 2003 gti plus you gonna drop some more vids & how's the house coming alone if you could get back to me safe 👍🏾
0:26 in the second to lower the steering wheel part is loose screws not have access to watches, this why? you removed before uploading the video? thanks and greetings from Spain BMAC VAGS
Disconnect battery first. It can be misleading to say the airbag needs a Philips screwdriver to unattach. It is a spring catch, which needs to be pressed towards the hub centre. It's similar to a door latch. A Philips screw driver is as good an tool as any, but there is no Philips screw in there. A short one will do it without taking put the speedometer at all. Note the position of the electrical connection on the one taken out or this video and replace the same. Useful video once these points are known.
Hi ive got a vw polo 9n3 and my steering is not straight with the wheels and ive had the tracking done and not solved the problem. Can i take the steering on and put it back on straight with the wheels facing straight thanks?
Not sure this is right cos not got the tool and not tried it yet, but FWIW a couple of people on VW forums said the right tool for undoing that central steering wheel nut is a "12mm triple square", though someone else also used the tool featured in this video and it worked.
jkjerome1 Just to confirm I bought a Torx T55 and it worked fine for removing and tightening up the bolt. I used a metal tube for extra leverage when tightening. BUT ideally you should use a torque wrench to ensure it's tightened up correctly, and only re-use the bolt 5 times before replacing it. More details here: www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/steering-wheel-removal-swap-mk4-volkswagen-passat-jetta-golf/
jkjerome1 Having just repeated this, I'd also add: when it came to releasing that triangular panel containing the airbag, one side was particularly tricky for some reason. Took a lot of buggering about with. So I took a look after and what should've been required in theory was to put a screwdriver(philips works best for me) dead perpendicular into the hole, keep it pushed firmly in and move the handle up until it forces the metal of the spring down and releases the catch. Surprisingly tricky for what it is. But try not to inseret the screwdriver at any angle other than perpendicular is my advice.
I know every car is diferent, but if I use your video to help me in a Mitsubishi, a Golf MK5, Audi A3, etc. it is will help me removing the steering wheel?? sorry my bad english =(
Just used this video to swap to a newer steering wheel, and now I have a flashing security light! how can I get rid of the issue so I can drive my car again!

Looks good thanks for that close-up showing the airbag tab release
Was completely stumped on the airbag until that detail view with the bag out. Saved me big time!
thanks to the person who put this video on. you helped tremendously, and heaven must have a place reserved for conscientious mechanics like you :)
perfect video tutorial, straight to the point without some tech talking a bunch of nonsense! thank you.
To anyone with a lust for doing this yourself this is and absolutely amazingly goooood video... thanks for the good Work.
Thank you for the step by step video! Used it to change my ignition switch!
That is excellent
Am here for the same things
This is why you're the best, man.

I have an 03 GTi 1.8T and it came with an audi wheel that I want to install. Ive been putting it off, but thanks to your video and me being tired of that audi wheel laying around, Ill most likely swap it tomorrow. Thank you.
Demonstrated like a true professional.
Thank you
lol....no.....a professional would never have to remove the instrument cluster...😂😂😂

Hell yeah
Everyone needs to engage flight mode every once in a while
No you can do it without moving the cluster but I found it easier this way. Its the same procedure either way.
Thank you for your message.
Thank you so much. Previously tried with a flat blade screwdriver and no joy. Then saw your video and used a phillips screwdriver which got the air bag out in a few seconds!
Really great video. Helped me a lot to replace a wheel.
Glad I could help. You should check the airbag slip ring if your horn is not working.

Thank You, I truly appreciate the support.
This is helpful as I'm planning to retrofit cruise control on my Mk4.
Make sure to disconnect the battery and keep the steering wheel unlocked. For more help check out "YOUCANIC Guide on how to Remove VW Steering Wheel."
Massive help, my indicators aren't working on my 2000 Polo (mk3 facelift). The airbag was a bit daunting, but now gonna give it a go!
Thanks for this video. It helped me a lot! I guess to put the airbag back on is just a matter of push it back, nothing tricky with that.
Your vids are awesome mate. Cheers from Smyrna Tennessee!
Thanks for the video mate it was really really useful, nice one.
No Problem, glad it helped.
you tha man!!!!

You should check the airbag squib, sometimes they can be faulty. Google/Ebay search vw Squib and you will see what I mean if you don't know.
tnx. your work was quite helpfull for my DIY repair of the steering ribbon
Very helpful/informative vid
This is a great video mate, it was really helpful, I thought it was going to be a real pain in the backside to do this, but after watching your vid, I now know I can do it myself, thanks a lot buddy, nice one. :-)
excellent
only video that i've seen showing how the clips work. gracias
Glad it helped
Keep it up mate.. You just got your self a new subscriber :).
No, you can get away without out moving the cluster. But for me this was the easiest problem free way.
Good Luck
I have round metal pins. one side out, other side sort of out 1/2" and stuck?
Glad I could help, make sure you subscribe so you can keep up to date.

Thanks for the video man. This really helps a lot. One question, how do you align the steering wheel when you plug it back after removal?
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Great video.......thanks for the help.
Thank you

The correct tool for the steering wheel removal is XZM Triple Square M12 just incase anyone's wondering
Hi mate could I remove a clock from a 2003 model to fit in my 2000 golf mk4 both are gti mine is a agu the clocks that's gonna be used are from the 2003 gti plus you gonna drop some more vids & how's the house coming alone if you could get back to me safe 👍🏾
merci pour la vidéo, très efficace !!!
Is there a way to fully disconnect the airbag from the cover?
0:26 in the second to lower the steering wheel part is loose screws not have access to watches, this why? you removed before uploading the video? thanks and greetings from Spain BMAC VAGS
Can the leather from the steering wheel be easily removed to be replaced or it is sticked with some kind of glue!!!
Valeri Venkov LOOK HERE shop.bmacvags.com/collections/accessories

Do Golf 5 or 6 steerig wheel fit in Golf mk4 ? (Only horn is needed). As usual a very good video, thanks.
Good job!
Thank you for showing the airbag removal !! 🙏🚂🎼🌹🎵🎶🛠⚕
I'm about to put a mk6 wheel in my mk4 gti. Is there a way to ensure you mount it in the correct position so as to not mess with the alignment?

If i want to change light bulbs inside the cluster panel, it should easy right? thanks,..
Hi, thanks for the great vid.. is the passenger airbag any easier?
Hi ive got a vw polo 9n3 and my steering is not straight with the wheels and ive had the tracking done and not solved the problem. Can i take the steering on and put it back on straight with the wheels facing straight thanks?
First and thats the most important thing which isn't there, disconnect the battery before anything
Viktor Ramos So what does it say at 1:03 ?
kevrs2 I appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to comment
@@BMACVAGS Do not upset Gil, he just wanted your attention. Enjoy your videos from Lismore NSW Australia
Do u need to do any vagcom before presuming the airbag?
It is possible that the airbag light may come on
Really glad I could help, be sure to subscribe so i can keep you up to date with our other videos.
Hello from canada, is the speedo cluster interchangeable same year golf to golf. the reason is I have a GTI from the US and it is in miles vs KMs
Are you gonna do a Golf MK4 side skirt removal video?
Great thanks for this tuto :)
Thank you 🇺🇸

steering "Clock?" is done I think. Have no horn and Airbag light. good video
Thank you
What sixze torx did u use to uninstall the cluster?
Which number is the triple square 12 pin bit?
Thank you. This help me
Not sure why you chose to pull the speedometer first though... more room for longer screwdriver?
I know every car is diferent, but if I use your video to help me in a Mitsubishi, a Golf MK5, Audi A3, etc. it is will help me removing the steering wheel?? sorry my bad english =(
great vid, thanks
Hi. Would the Airbag light on the dash stay lit after replacement of the wheel and airbag?
you made it look easy...hopefully have the momo installed in 7min lol
yes
Is there any major differences on a 2001 Cabrio automatic? Thanks!
I can do it as soon as I get another VW In stock.
Just used this video to swap to a newer steering wheel, and now I have a flashing security light! how can I get rid of the issue so I can drive my car again!
WIll this be possible if my steering wheel is locked and my lock barrel is broken not allowing me to turn the key to unlock it?
Not sure to be honest, I would have to look at that one
is there any way to check if airbag were removed before you buy used car? disassembly is obviously out of the question.
So one question once the steering wheel is off can I install a hub for an aftermarket wheel just as if it was a regular car
of course, some mods mage required but it is possible
Cool I have already found special boss kit hub for vw mk4 just had to keep digging
I watched you remove the dash panel, why is it back in when you removed the wheel
