- In this video we will be recrafting a pair of Viberg Booys with a Dainite Rubber sole and heels. These Dainite soles will get a a top stitch done on them so its perfect to see what the difference looks like between a channeled stitching and none channeled.

These are my boots! This was an awesome watch, loved seeing the resole! I did some research back to when I purchased these about two years ago, these were a Canadian collab between Altitude Sports x Viberg in Smooth Tobacco Chamois. After seeing you take these apart and pulling out that high density foam, big oof. You're not wrong, these boots brand new are over $700 USD and that is not the quality you look for at that price point..... Luckily, these were an eBay find for less than half that haha so I'm not too upset and glad I had you resole it with the right materials!
For those wondering why the resole? Dainite is definitely a preference for me, especially since I love wearing boots in the fall/winter and these leather soles were going to get me killed if the weather soured. I found myself not wearing these because I didn't like how slick they were walking around downtown.
Appreciate the hard work and love them! Going to take them for a spin tonight!
It makes sense that it was a collab boot. It's possible that the foam midsole was spec'd by the vendor, for whatever reason.
Time to move down south lol
Cobblers Plus does great work. Looks like we’re going to have a wet year yet.
Sense you bought them used, perhaps they had them resoled? And the Cobb they used, used the foam.
I thought Viberg used a leather shank. Is that not true?
Great commentary on the quality/price ratio. Most people wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to give such an honest review.
older viberg Goodyear welt, they now do channeled Goodyear with cork
In the Division Road Viberg Factory Tour 2020 video here on RUclips clearly show cork being put in, so the foam you found is confusing
Great resole! Love the high level of craftmanship and the review!
It's amazing how companies will make extremely poor business decisions when they have a revered brand. No respect for their dedicated customer base.
The video on RUclips “Division Road Factory Tour 2020” shows cork being put in. This pair is a collab boot and I wonder if they made them differently
I have a pair that has shipped to me. I will have to check them out. The price on these start at about 800 now and go up. I did buy them from a dealer that will allow me to return them. Viberg doesn't allow a return for credit. You can get a store credit and that is it. NO REFUND. Sounds like I need to return them and get another pair of Nicks or White's. (at a cheaper price) I followed up this video and watch some other resoles on the Service Boot. They did NOT have the foam insert. They had cork. Since this was a collab I wonder if they changed the process in the build? You can see the other video on this channel: Bedo's Leatherworks LLC That boot was a collab also. Update: This show that has a foam insert must have been worked on. I watched a video with Brett Viberg. They only use cork.
Great job on the recraft. You do very nice work.
This clinch nailing is the same process used when attaching planking to wood canvas canoes. There is a form for every model canoe with steel ribs where the cedar ribs are bent and then the planking is clinch nailed through the cedar ribs to the steel form ribs which causes the nail tips to bend around back into the ceder ribs clinching the nail and fastening the plank to the rib.
Thank you so much for this video man I was between Crockett and Jones and these and this really helped.
As a cobbler it doesn't bode well to make negative assumptions about build quality: 1. You had to cut out the removal of the heel because it was so solidly constructed. 2. The finish on the sole edge could have been roughed up through owner use. 3. You didn't use the higher quality version of cork that is a heated paste tightly molded into place. I've owned most of the brands all the way up the scale of price and Vibergs are unique in you get the construction and durability of a hard core workboot in the form of a casual use daily wearer. Others may start out the same but need more care and begin to break down sooner...it's not a myth, they really are that good.
Those look so much better with the new soles!!
Very good recraft and evaluation 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Viberg has some explaining to do. That's built more like a Thursday Boot than Viberg of old.
Thursdays are poorly made?
@@Beaneeman67 Thursdays are constructed well from inferior quality materials, like the foam used in this odd Viberg collab. At Viberg prices, that midsole should have been veg tan... like in just about every other boot Viberg makes.
@@underwaterbasketweaving8638 This boot does have a midsole, you can just make it out when he's taking them apart. Viberg did and still use high density foam (as far as I'm aware) to line the cavity between midsole and insole as do many brands. Cork is also very cheap (so not really much of a selling point vs high density foam when you think about) and just as comfortable and is probably not even noticeable on a double leather sole shoe.
Stop bashing a brand just because its cool to do so. The uppers are in fantastic condition and live to see another sole. Most Thursdays are falling apart by the time they need a resole. These are also made in Canada where labor is more expensive then Mexico where Thursdays are made.
At the end of the day I do agree Viberg are a bit overpriced but jesus christ anyone would agree they make a fantastic boot compared to high fashion garbage etc.
My 2c
@@underwaterbasketweaving8638 the foam is for a sneaker type feel, I like the traditional type construction myself
Strange … truman started doing the same thing ….
As always EXCELLENT WORK.
Thank you you answered an argument I had with a fellow about Dante soles He was saying that all danites are grooved …I said no factory finish is top stitched ….yes you can grove it but that is not the factory finish…..so thank you so much
I appreciate your honesty. I like the style of those boots!
Good Viberg advice!
Great work! Vibergs are actually $800+ now due to the new year price hike. These are an older pair as they use a gemming. New Vibergs have a channeled insole, use cork, leather toe puffs and heel counter. They also use a wooden shank instead of steel. Dont know if I can still buy new at that price but will keep buying used.
Fwiw a leather toe puff is kinda not necessary
The Viberg website says they are made differently (better). Are these older maybe that’s why they are made like this? I think I will keep buying Grant Stones based on their build quality. Kind of a separate topic but I find the grant stone leather souls are very grippy I don’t understand why everyone says leather is slippery. Once the leather soles get scuffed up they’re fine.
When did viberg start using foam filler? Are they still using it?
Thursday boots started to do their stitching channeled.
Nicks boots uses a rubber filler, instead of cork, to minimize squeaking. It also provides some protection for the insole from external water.
My guess is Viberg may have used foam for similar reasons, assuming that the foam does not absorb water like leather could.
Ohh man Viberg uses FOAM filler 😅🤣
Do cheaper boots look like that?
Viberg is originally a work boot builder like Nicks etc with the logging and resource industry here in BC declining the demand for work boots has declined. All their work boots are stitch down and nailed construction I've been wearing their 151x boots for 2 decades not the same pair mind you.
Dude I can’t wait for you to finish my Ariats! You’re going to make them awesome!
Disappointed that they put in some cheap foam, that sucks. I wanted a pair of these, now which one is better quality? Help.
Nice work!! I am not so critical about foam. If it's properly engineered it could be a better alternative than cork or leather. Less traditional but maybe more comfortable/longer lasting. For example Paraboot uses rubber fillers and they don't need to be replaced when resoling.
nope neither more comfortable and definitely not more long lasting … learn about materials first
Is it poron? Can someone email or ask Mr. Viberg?
Why is a foam filler such a bad idea ? Modern foams like poron are very good and have a better life than the cork that are put in traditional boots. And cork is full of glue/binding agent anyway so the foam will be just as breathable and probably just as environmentally friendly (and it doesn't come all the way from the Mediterranean).
The foam can easily be replaced the same way that cork is replaced on a resole.
There seems to be a knee jerk reaction anytime modern materials are used in shoes or boots without any evidence and quite frankly it is snobbery and if you are so opposed to synthetic materials why are you quite happy to cover the soles in synthetic glues and contact cement ?
the music made it impossible to watch,
Then don't watch it. Simple.
How long are the Dainite soles lasting .
Oof that’s a big L with the foam filler. For their price I’d want cork or leather.
shocking
Nice content, I think if the videos were a bit shorter it would help
As a cobbler, how do you not understand that this foam is more expensive, slightly more labor intensive, and actually better than putting cork in as a filler? The cork will break down and move around inside, and "mold to your foot", but also not always in a good way. White's uses foam now too, people see cork as a heritage material and assume it's better, but more high quality companies are moving away from it. Truman just went back to using cork because people are so misinformed.
!!!!!
Whites are stitchdown boots. They don't need any filler.
Annoying music
Then don't watch it Mumsy...

@@baberoot1998 it's Mumphy , paddlefingers
That is absolutely disgusting for the price point that they are charging
As a cobbler that has used both when resoling my own shoes, you literally can not tell the difference in feel. Not a big deal IMO
Do you actually know the quality of cork he used or didn't use? The quality of foam he removed? Disgusting is a strong word for not having the exact details on either.
@@gaylongraham077 the fact that it's synthetic materials versus more leather is disgusting I'm not going to sit here and debate foam versus foam or cork versus cork it's a premium price and these are not premium price materials
These dainite soles are so boring, next time a halfsole from Dr. Sole or O'sullivan!
Work in progress but shipping from Dr sole is absolutely crazy!
@@CobblersPlus Interesting... I wanna order a pair or two for myself
I think this boot is an aberration, it was a collaboration boot. Vibergs are high quality and channel stitched. Cork is cheaper than poron, and I dohbt Bret Viberg would cut any corners whatsoever. Why not check with him before the brand get damaged reputation?
Decent review other than the fact he didn’t do his background on the boot. This was a more affordable colab done for a different market. Any of their true boots not bought on eBay or from a stockist asking for a more affordable build. Decent video but poor research on the boot.
Not sure what you mean by "true boots".. Many, if not most, people get their Vibergs from stokists, especially here in Canada. Stokists usually ask for a unique make-up for the leather upper, outsole, etc. or maybe the standard construction (goodyear rather than stitchdown), but the core components and the internal construction of the shoe never changes. All my Vibergs including the shell cordovan models I have bought from Canadian stokists such as Brookly Clothing Co. By the way, I disagree with the cobbler's assessment regarding foam, Viberg been using foam for years, and because of the leather midsole, it wouldn't make much of a difference. They used leather before actually, but they switched to foam because they found that leather on leather might squeak after some time. So they're not really cutting a corner here. Is Viberg overpriced ? yes maybe. But the things he is picking on are ridiculous.. Viberg afterall is a casual work boot, not Edward Green.
As mentioned in the video for the price point on THESE boots they are not worth it. There are other models that might be but from what is seen in these seem like the company is starting to become mire of a brand name compared to older models
@@MMM88X Squeaking is a valid issue but that doesn't have anything to do with having a foam filler. It can be arrested by introducing a layer inbetween the leather midsole and insole. For reference please check the construction of Nick's boots or White's to get a better understanding of how that's executed.
Great video, but my Dad told me "when someone asks you what time it is, you don't have to tell them how the watch is made". You need better balance on the amount of and repetitive nature of your commentary.
He's learning. It will take some time for him to get it...
Until he wants to go to the mountains or forest swamps in winter😊
