So this project is definitely a small investment. We spent around $250 for everything - wood glue, stain, sandpaper, etc. Compare it to this though - ONE section which would be just two of those longer pipe fixtures and 1/4 the amount of wood is sold for $315 on Overstock. If I bought a shelving unit like this, it would've varied from $500 upwards to $2,000.
One way to cut down on cost is to use electrical conduit and a liquid weld. 8' of conduit is under $10 and can be cut with an inexpensive pipe cutter. Is reduces the weight as well. I did an 8' entertainment center with it using 2x8x8.
Fantastic, Rachel. Going back and binge watching all of my favorite RUclipsrs. Sooooooooooo bored at work!!! Been glued to PC for about 4.5 hrs. now. Still have a bunch of your older videos, I'm going to go back and watch!! Dirty Jersey out!!
Great inspiration for my walk in closet in perpetual progress!! Lol I'm showing this vid to my boyfriend and then I'm going to make it similar to your idea!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
You go girl! Looks great! I along with you would have hesitated screwing through floor, but, maybe best to after all. I have a small pipe shelving on one of my walls. I love for the added steampunk/industrial touch!
Great shelving! My guess is the pipe in the middle is off, so I would measure the outside and corner pipe first and then the middle pipe for symmetry but I love it, great job! Love the decor!
Love this! What is your prep for the iron? I bought some today and the fittings are kinda gray and oily. And the pipe is painted black. I removed all the paint with acetone. Next step is to spray paint black. Is that what you do? Are there any pertinent steps I may be missing? Thank you and really appreciate your videos
Hey man great video. How do you like that flexvolt miter saw? I am in the market for one right now for my garage so have been heavily considering the infamous Bosch glide given the low profile...but your setup got me to thinking I could just go mobile and not have to worry about clearance...price is similar too... 1:35
I want to do this look in my front room. As soon as you walk in my door.I have my wall and my 80 inch TV and we need room for underneath and on one side. I think that will be a great way to do it. Rustic but chic we have the coastal vibe with color pillows and pictures. Boy we need sofa so bad had ours for years☹️😫🤭lol
It’s so pretty but I’m not as handy I would be scared to do this alone 😬... but I’m probably going to find me someone handy to build me this beautiful shelving. Thank you for this video 3:12
I LOVE the wood & metal vibes! So cool to see you do this! I’ve wanted to try mixing these two. Did you get the pipes and pipe accessories at the hardware store? Were they easy to find? Wood I’m good with 👍🏼 but plumbing? 🙈🙈🙈 this looks amazing!!!! Good luck getting ready for your trip!!!!
I made a pipe shelf a while back and I highly suggest you attach the wood to the pipes with a tube strap. It may or may not be necessary for you, but for me living in Los Angeles, securing things down is essential with all the earthquakes we get.
Amazing work on those shelves.. but I’m really interested in those book holders. I’ve been looking all over the web for them. Any idea how I can obtain a set?
Are the pipes dirty? Like do they leave residue when you grab them? I want to use these to make a headset stand but don't want to make a mess since it's going to be on my desk. And where did you get the pipes? Home Depot? Good video btw
I’m honestly not sure. I’ve never looked into it because I like the rustic look. I would google it! I used WD40 to get a label off and that polished it. They come polished though! The steel option - not black steel.
Holy Cr@p! I am so doing this! What a great project! Love it. That Cali though, lol! Adorable. So glad you tried the hand planer. What are your thoughts on it? 1:33
How much did it cost to make the entire shelf?
So this project is definitely a small investment. We spent around $250 for everything - wood glue, stain, sandpaper, etc. Compare it to this though - ONE section which would be just two of those longer pipe fixtures and 1/4 the amount of wood is sold for $315 on Overstock. If I bought a shelving unit like this, it would've varied from $500 upwards to $2,000.
Yes, considering store bought options that is a fraction of the cost. Im sure the pipe was fairly expensive on its own. Lol. 😂
One way to cut down on cost is to use electrical conduit and a liquid weld. 8' of conduit is under $10 and can be cut with an inexpensive pipe cutter. Is reduces the weight as well. I did an 8' entertainment center with it using 2x8x8.
Corinne Duwe - That’s true, but you won’t get that beautiful classic look as you would with the gas pipe. If that’s what you’re after.😊
I wanted to make one of these, but then I found out that just one of those wall or floor flanges is like 10 bucks, I was like.. uh... maybe not. lol
Looks so sleek! I love how you styled them too. Paul's a lucky dude!
Thanks love ❤️

I’ve been binge watching your channel all day. So talented and inspiring. 5:32

The coolest shelving ever!!
Really appreciate that xx.
I love your DIY's! They are all unique and made very well.
I really appreciate that Hannah! Thank you!
They have a lot of pipe shelving in tiny homes and I loved them! This looks so beautiful, I need to do this sometime when I have cash 😝
Thank you Amanda! Yes it's definitely a small investment but totally worth it.
I'm a sucker for this style. Love it. All of Paul's decor pieces look great. Enjoy Paris. It's an awesome city ✈🗼🇫🇷 😀

Living to DIY with Rachel Metz - You are most welcome.😊

THANK YOU I’m moving out and I needed this!!!
So pumped it has helped!
The fittings and some lengths of the pipe are available on amazon for a lot cheaper although it seems like you have to buy in lots of ten.
Perfect! Thanks for letting me know xx.
This looks sooo incredible, killed it again Rachel! 😍👌 - Sarah x
Thank you Sarah!

Question, when you talk about glue are you talking about Elmers glue? 3:22
Not sure what part I'm talking about glue wise but probably wood glue.
Exactly what I was looking for 😍
Happy to help!

I have a Makita Cordless and a Milwaukee Cordless miter now that I love.
I want to do this look in my front room. As soon as you walk in my door.I have my wall and my 80 inch TV and we need room for underneath and on one side. I think that will be a great way to do it. Can't wait to see how you pull it together xx.
Oh man....think I'm gonna have to make this
Yay! Stoked you loved.
Looks great! And so easy! ❤❤❤
So easy and so effective for a space transformation.
It’s so pretty but I’m not as handy I would be scared to do this alone 😬... but I’m probably going to find me someone handy to build me this beautiful shelving. Thank you for this video 3:12
You got this! Promise xx.

Love it 😍...have a safe trip.
Thank you Claudia!
And looks beautiful
Thank you Angela!
Great video as always! Did you get your piping from Home Depot? If you could have changed the measurements what would you have gone with instead?
Yes! Got it from Home Depot - I would've made it all even to fit four shelves.
this is so cool!!
Thanks Emily!
this is great. i'm also gonna use it in an unfinished storage room in my basement. 5:27
🖤.
Thats cool great. Job good idea
Thank you so much!
you two are so cool. paul has really cool stuff.
Thank you so much love!
It’s beautiful but will make a smaller one.
I made a pipe shelf a while back and I highly suggest you attach the wood to the pipes with a tube strap. It may or may not be necessary for you, but for me living in Los Angeles, securing things down is essential with all the earthquakes we get.
Yes! I actually was planning on doing that after I published it today. Great minds think alike! Thank you xx.
Love it!
Do you have any idea for big bathroom mirror frame???
😀
All my mirrors are frameless except for my guest bathroom. I got a wooden framed circle one from Home Goods - I've never framed one myself.
First ever!!! :) love all your diy ideas
Thank you Rosie!!
Amazing work on those shelves.. but I’m really interested in those book holders. I’ve been looking all over the web for them. Any idea how I can obtain a set?
What book holders? The shoes?
Living to DIY with Rachel Metz yes the shoes.. where can I find a set of book holders like those?
Could you use regular pvc pipes as well or are they not strong enough car a shelf?
I’m not too sure. I’ve seen it with regular PVC once but it didn’t look sturdy.
Omg! Looks amazing!☺️❤️
Thanks Ella!
Living to DIY with Rachel Metz No worries☺️
Are the pipes dirty? Like do they leave residue when you grab them? I want to use these to make a headset stand but don't want to make a mess since it's going to be on my desk. And where did you get the pipes? Home Depot? Good video btw
You can polish them and get all the grime off! Home Depot!
Living to DIY with Rachel Metz Okay cool! And how would you polish them exactly? Just wipe down with water? Alcohol?
I’m honestly not sure. I’ve never looked into it because I like the rustic look. I would google it! I used WD40 to get a label off and that polished it. They come polished though! The steel option - not black steel.
Acetone
Love it
Thank you Jordan!
What brand of dark walnut stain did you use? I can’t find one that turns out. That’s the perfect stain I’ve been looking for.
Varathane!
Holy Cr@p! I am so doing this! What a great project! Love it. That Cali though, lol! Adorable. So glad you tried the hand planer. What are your thoughts on it? 1:33
I need to get use to it still!
Looooooved this!!! When I get my forever home I will be doing this!
Side note: Your husband knows Nas?
He's collaborated with him on a couple things! Thanks for the love xx.
Can i use pvc instead of those pipe?
It won't be super secure!
Did you just put it on the floor or did you secured it too?
I believe I show that I drilled it directly into the floor!
Muito bom!
Gostei
Thanks for the love!
What was the overall cost?
I genuinely cannot remember. It maybe in the description? I need to pull out receipts on this one.
I NEED A HOUSE TOUR PLEASE
Ah! 🙌🏼❤️
He better be grateful for what you did for his home!!! 🤔
