Well done, on the whole Couple of pro-tips. It's way easier to get an aluminum turkey pan - big basting pan from the dollar store, throw in your pipe, flanges, tees, etc. and let them soak in mineral spirits/varnish for 5 mins. Give them a good scrub with the rough side of a sponge or steel wool. Dry them with a rag. Don't use paste. Use a spray on primer with rust inhibitors - e.g. Rustoleum or Temclad - 2 coats. Then 2 coats of spray on Rustoleum/Tremclad in whatever color and gloss you like. Pipes will stay clean and won't rust that way.
I just saw all of your videos in under an hour, and now I'm slightly upset that there are no more videos. Pretty please make more!! So easy to follow. You're brilliant!
I like you energy. I have an old IKEA book shelf that’s circling the drain. I was going to haul it to the garage and paint it, but it’s not sturdy. I like how you varied the height to surround your window. The gray stain was unexpected but it works in your space and I’ll bet will be a color you’ll like for a long time to come. I’m gonna give it a shot. Thank you.
Great video Laurie. I am ordering pipes, flanges and wood now to make a stereo/tv stand with custom openings for my stereo components. Enjoy your new office.
Love this, thank you. Also love the wooden sofa on your website but you didn't add the instructions. I really want to make that one! I can't work out how the seat is attached to the sides, lol. It's beautiful.
Thank you! I guess I need to get on top of this stuff. I love how the outdoor sofa turned out too! I just used some construction grade L-brackets and 2x4's for the seat and back braces, and a futon mattress with an outdoor cover for the cushion! I would advise that you construct it on site. That thing is a beast to try to move!
Did something similar using smaller 1/2" pipe; however, I protected my blk pipe w/several coats of satin clear lacquer... Probably took longer to dry so I'll try the wax method next time.
Great video Laurie! But, I'm with some of the other people... my back was killing me watching you do all that work on the floor. But, hey... that's about me and my bad back! Oh... and wearing flip flops... yikes! My toes were flinching the whole time. :-) I was wondering why you need to protect all the piping. I am in the process of doing research to try to design a desk for my husband and hadn't seen that step during my research. Thanks again for a very informative video!!
Thanks for watching, Joan! The idea behind the whole process with the pipes is first to clean all of the gunk off of them and then to protect them from rusting. Some people prefer the aesthetics of letting them rust, so it's really whatever you prefer!
Very nice shelve set up. Love to the three split tier levels. Very instructive and helpful. Thanks for sharing your project with us. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya
I would definitely consider anchoring that to the wall. At the height yours is it would be a good idea, if you built it any higher at all I would say it's a necessity.
Thank you so much for an awesome video. I can definitely start with that. Since I'd like to be a le to DIY some stuff at my house. Quick question for you tho: what type of stain did you use?
Thanks for watching Ben! The stain that I'm using is a mix of three Sherwin Williams Wood Classics stains. 4 parts pecan, 1 part winter white, and 1 part beechwood. I hope your projects go well!
It has been awhile since I made this, but I would estimate that it cost around $350. The hardware that I used was from Home Depot and it was actual plumbing pipe fittings. I have since discovered that Amazon carries some decorative hardware that looks just as awesome, but costs much much less! Definitely something to look into!
Hi! Thanks for the question! I purchased the outer bins on the bottom shelf from the At Home store. The bins that are closer to the middle are actually file storage boxes from Target. You can check out my blog for more information on the decorations! laurie-shultz.com/2017/11/diy-wood-and-pipe-shelving-unit/
I get it! Have you checked out Amazon? I recently discovered that they have decorative pipe fittings for a fraction of the cost of the plumbing grade ones!
Hi Earl! I believe this cost me around $350. I think about $80 in lumber and the rest in pipe fittings. I have since discovered that you can buy some decorative pipe fittings at a fraction of the cost on Amazon. If I had to do it again, I would definitely go that route!
very good video with a great shelving idea thank you, oh and the comedy was to die for lol enjoyed it for real . i am curious thought as to why you aren't making videos for so long,i know it's not my business but you have the appeal and personality it seems to have a very good youtube channel. all the best hope to see more soon.
Hi! This would be sturdy enough to hold a television as long as you get the feet leveled properly. The space between the two top shelves would certainly be sufficient for a 50 inch television. The only variable here would be the depth of the television. This shelving unit is only slightly more than 11" deep. Hope this helps!
Amazing!!! Finally a DYI with some actual at home shit and not the fancy tools everyone elses uses. Very Dope!
Thank you!
Just found this, 5 years later. Great video!

You just saved me $600. Did this back in 1981 with cinderblocks instead of pipe, total cost $17.🛠🔩🔧✔
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!
Love it you did and awesome job and very entertaining to watch 🤞🤣🤣
Thank you!
Exelente saludos desde Argentina 😙😙
Отличная работа!
Thank you!
Did something similar using smaller 1/2" pipe; however, I protected my blk pipe w/several coats of satin clear lacquer... Probably took longer to dry so I'll try the wax method next time.
Thanks for watching! Let me know how the two methods compare!
Great Video. I have the exact same Shed, with the exact same problem of organization. Thanks for the idea. 5:55
With the stickers, you can use a heat gun/hair dryer and it will soften the adhesive!
Love your sense of humor lol do you have a video on the lamp made out of pipe? great build by the way
I don't! I've definitely been slacking lately!

Awww! Thank you!
Hi did you tap and die the pipes
How you attach that still pipe in your computer ?
It's actually a monitor stand! You can get it on Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B21TLQU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Can you use a 2 x 10 and have the same stability? I just wanted to throw that out there to anyone as i am limited for space.
really nice job.
Thank you!
Cool video. Cost of materials?
Thanks! I think I paid around $350, but I used plumbing grade pipe fittings. You can find decorative fittings on Amazon for much cheaper!
I love it
So awesome!!!! Curious to how much it cost you. Thinking about making myself one but with caster wheels at the bottom

why do you have to protect the pipes? what would happen if i didnt
Girl you got it going on.
Thank you!
Laurie Shultz no thank you! Keep up the good work hard work!
Ugh. I get the low cost but... invest 30 bucks in a pair of harbor freight sawhorses... my poor knees hurt just watching you!
Nice work. :D
So sorry for the knee pain that I caused you! LOL!
You'll be happy to know I have since purchased some sawhorses/tables :)
Awesome
Thank you.
great idea as all but the cost of the flanges alone makes this project extra expensive
I get it! Have you checked out Amazon? I recently discovered that they have decorative pipe fittings for a fraction of the cost of the plumbing grade ones!
@@laurieshultz7052 thanks, I hope shipping not kill me!
any recommendation on where to get flanges and nipples?! flanges are about $6.50 / piece at home depot !!

Thank you so much! Life has been busy!!! I've been working on a bed for my son, almost done! Keep an eye out, it'll be my next video!
Очень хорошо ! Класс !
Thank you!
I enjoyed this video. I let out a laugh when she mentioned nice and smooth in the same sentence as 120 grit
You could have made this using much fewer floor flanges.
I always love new ideas! Want to elaborate?
not to pick nits, but a 2x12 is actually 1 1/2" x 11 1/4"
True story! :-)
wow, runs a saw and make dinner.....lol, cool dog
Very cute family
Thanks! I'm pretty fond of them! :-)
Need your pipes cleaned?
Haha!
Why have you not posted more videos???

Good job. It was too spendy for me.
Check out Amazon for some decorative pipe fittings at a much better price than using the real deal!
Stain the wood really ??
