  • It feels unreal.
This food forrest and grassland is officially mine, and that means it's time to start designing and dreaming up what I want to make our of it.
I'm on a journey to design and build my own permaculture farm here using permaculture design principles.
Hope you'll enjoy this episode :)
    Join me in this journey!
    -------
If you're interested in sustainable living, permaculture, sub-tropical agriculture, tiny houses or anything in between, I think you'll like the content on this channel.
In 2022 I bought a piece of land in the North of the Dominican Republic to prototype a new way of living.
    Food:
I want to grow my own food but have no clue about how to do it, so this should be fun.
    Shelter:
I'm planning on building my own cabin, outside toilet and kitchen, gazebo.
    Energy:
Want to be fully self sustainable through either solar energy or hydrogen energy.
I have somewhat of an idea of how this is going to go, but mostly, it's improvised.
    ---------
I'm absolutely open to tips and ideas, so leave them in the comments
    ----------
    My priorities:
    1) Do a good job on the land
    2) Have fun
    3) Document it well
That means, at some point, you might have to tap into your own imagination to fill in the gaps ;)

Oh that is incredible Heather :)
Unfortunately I will be back in the netherlands at that point... but a friend of mine who taught me all I know about permaculture will be here. He also has the right contacts for many properties on the island...
So if you're looking to connect, comment on this message and maybe we could make something happen.

You should consider biogas fuel generation for gas to cook with

      I definitely am considering that!
Thanks for sparking the idea again in my mind...
Next year, this will be a project to move towards :)

Hey Thomas, thanks for your message!
We're located in Cabarete, on the north coast.
I can see from your videos you have an awesome collection!
Do you mean you're thinking of coming back to the DR? Or to create your own permaculture site in Austria?
Happy to help in any way :)

@@thomastropics That's amazing! Benyam can help you get about 120 different species... it's all growing on his land!
I believe Benyam and I can also help you find your dream location... (the property next to us is gorgeous and we're looking for the right people to expand the eco-village with...). Also, over the past months we came across a lot of different properties, so there must be a good fit for you.
      Let's chat about it!

Yes, im looking for a realy special place. I need sour soil with a PH around 5,5 and something around 400m over the sea level. A lot of tropical plants grow a lot better in acid soil. And I’m looking for a farm with 20 Hektar to have good space for my collection. I have now over 250 different fruit trees (seedlings)

How many hectares/acres? I plan on building a regenerative garden for our soon to be homestead in DR also. I will be watching you guys. I really want to get into the native plant food sources of course. Actually maybe the answer to the question is in your earlier videos. Checking them out now.

Hey Vision, sorry for the late response!
This property is 2 acres (9000 square meters).
About 1 acre of forest, and 1 acre of grassland.
We'll be going through a lot of different plants in the next videos. I've been busy with the design of the land, so I'll show that soon.
Thanks for the comment, and let's stay in touch, if we're both in the DR, we'll definitely be able to help each other out!

How much do you pay your laborers?

    • @vikinginthejungle
      @vikinginthejungle  Год назад

      Thanks for the question...
A cool thing I find about our relationship with the workers is that they work with the community, so they're able to call out their own rate on a task by task basis.
So, how much I pay depends completely on what type of work is being done.
I pay everyone based on results, not on hours.
But if you had to attach a number to it, it probably comes down to about $30 - $50 / day.
