Red Son was the first character I knew, LMK, and I got to know Mai after that thanks to the dragon fruit videos, and I loved shipping them even though I knew nothing about them or the show.
Then I met MK and I thought he was May's brother, but I watched part of the Calablanche episode and it became clear to me that they were not brothers. I thought they were dating and that the dragon fruit was just an imaginary ship, but after MK vomited, I knew after that that they were just friends, and when I finished watching Monkey Kid I now know that MK's relationship with Dragon Girl is a sisterly friendship
They are half brothers and ships do not have to interfere in their relationship

The fans considered them as siblings, actually. Not brothers. Oh, and in case you either forgot or did not know, it was confirmed in the show that Mk had no romantic feelings for Mei whatsoever. He only saw her as his best friend.
