AUUGHHH I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH BECAUSE I'VE POINTED MOST OF THESE OUT SO MANY TIMES. I could go on a whole ramble about it. In fact, you bet your ass I will. Despite this video being about Dragonfruit parallels and similarities, I think it's important first for me to mention that I genuinely think Mei's character is often not taken as seriously as her character really is, and I wish more people understood her more and spoke about her more because I feel she would be more widely enjoyed if people truly understood her character better. She is already special enough of a character to me, considering she's my favorite and my comfort character, but I do mean it when I say that I feel her character deserves more appreciation and attention than she currently receives. She is more than just a silly goofy best friend, she is more than just Ao Lie's descendant, she is such a good character in and of herself. Like she is so fucking similar to Red Son in multiple ways, that it's genuinely surprising to me how she isn't as widely loved or obsessed over as Red Son is. If this video isn't proof enough, they share so much in common. But not even in like a "this character is a copy-paste of this one" kind of way. They are similar in different ways. And it's one of the reasons why I really like their dynamic SO damn much. Not even just romantically, but platonically as well. They would get along so well, and they DO. They (would) understand each other better than a lot of the people they are surrounded by. And that's not to say that those they're surrounded by don't understand them well, but rather, that both of them would get each other so well. Maybe even a little /too/ well, you know? I'm pasting some stuff from a thread I made a bit ago, bare with me. Like in the scenes from s4 "You, girl, are too impulsive." "WHAAAT?!" (Mei breathing fire) It's almost like I've mentioned this before... And mentioned how similar she is to Red Son. "Ao Lie, the white horse dragon, was an exceptionally powerful being. But he was timid and nervous, lacking your confidence and borderline arrogance" "HEY! I'll show YOU ARROGANT (incoherent angry mumbling)" Wow. Who does that remind you of? Especially when you compare it to s3's scenario: "Now, we got a Red Son! We didn't have a Red Son before!" "Oh yeah, he's a real game changer." "HEY!" Remind me again... Who is also impulsive and defensive and borderline arrogant? Red Son. Of course. It always comes back to those two acting scarily similar. And that isn't even where the similarities end. They both live in a fancy ass household with family that expected different of how their child turned out. And while their respective environments differ based on how their family handles/reacts to their child being different than they expect of them, it's still similar enough to be noticeable. Red Son is shown multiple times to be expected to live up to his parents expectations of him, and in s1e3, Mei speaks about how her family expected her to be less rough and messy and fitting of her noble family's reputation. Not only this, but they both were more than likely pretty lonely growing up, as well. Their similarities aren't even confined to just their experiences or their behavior, but how they go about taking action on things they believe strongly in/feel passionate about or have a goal toward. In s1e8, Red Son snatches the key and drives off. Mei reacts immediately, getting on her motorcycle and chasing after the other (Something they both do /way/ too often, but I already have a whole thread about that on Twitter, so I won't get into it). She reacts so impulsively that she doesn't even consider giving MK a ride, she just jumps into action immediately- Something Red Son would've done, as he's always jumping into a fight or a chase (See the pilot, Red Son immediately chasing after MK to retrieve the staff). When Mei is teleported away with LBD in the s3 special, Red Son immediately suggests going after her. He's quick to jump into action without a second thought, eager to not waste time, much like Mei in the pilot when they believed MK had been killed. She's quick to run after him, Pigsy being the one who has to hold her back and even carry her away while she's desperately kicking and punching. Even as recent as s4 this continues, where Red Son rushes in to attack Azure upon him injuring Ne Zha (and a bit after trapping his parents in the scroll), making it explicitly clear that he wants to make Azure pay for hurting the people he cares about. Mei expresses the same behavior in the EXACT same episode, eager to quit training and jump back into battle because she wants to protect those she cares about and doesn't want to waste time. Both, however, unprepared. I absolutely love to see their similarities and how despite being in two drastically different circumstances, still act the same. They have different goals on the surface, but underneath it all, at the very core foundation, do it for the same reason. They care, they do most, if not all of what they do because of the people they care about. The people they want to protect. The people they would do anything for. And though it might not be as blatant, because they're both genuinely good people at heart. Red Son might've helped his parents scheme and even participated in chaotic shenanigans early on, but he still ends up helping people. You see how he constantly keeps helping the Monkie Kid team over and over multiple times, even without being asked. Just wholly unprompted. Even in scenarios where he does not benefit from it, like in s3e6 when Red Son takes in the group from the desert and provides them with food, water, AND shelter to get them out of the sweltering heat so they didn't die out there. Even at the risk of his parents coming back home and finding him with their ENEMIES. He knew damn well he could get in trouble for his actions, and yet he still helped. Anywho, all this to say, it's blatant to me that Mei and Red Son have a lot in common- CLEARLY, as evidenced by the video. I hope that more start to recognize this and grow to love Mei as a character the way they've grown to love Red Son. They make a good team, they have an interesting and fun dynamic, and it's clear that even the writers enjoy their duo. The video is really funny, really cute, but also really cool to see. I am their biggest supporter, and most of all... I AM MEI'S NUMBER ONE FAN!! I AM THE NUMBER ONE MEI ENTHUSIAST! LETS GO DRAGONFRUITERS!!!

I forget how similar they are lmao. One is care free, the other is goal oriented, but they’re both chaotic, loud, boastful, hot headed, and sometimes egotistical. It’s adorable
They may be opposites, Mei being energetic and be the wildfire party girl, and red son is the control oriented and goal setter but they both have firey tempers ( which I think is a common trait for any character with fire powers ), hot headed ,and spotlight happy. WHY AREN'T THEY DATING YET!?!?!!?? They are so perfect for each other
I’d even be satisfied if they indirectly hinted that either one had a crush on the other. Just a little something that lets us know the makers are listening to the fans feedback
Just my friend, is there anything more beautiful than a crazy girl and a nervous boy? My favorite scene in the entire Dragonfruit series is when Red Son saves Mai from the fire of samadhi and we see him at the end leaning on Mai with her arms around him.
Also mei became stronger and more nervous in the fourth season, in my opinion✨️, and it is clear that this is because of her training with Redson. He taught her how to act manly (this is just a belief). This is why I love them❤️💚 and I am sorry for the delay in my comment.
I’ve noticed her more aggressive after s3 and always thought that was because of the Fire and Redson, also made me mad that “she was always calm, she just needed help in s3, why dose she need to be calm again in s4?” But this video made me realize she’s been like that from the start and that made me love her even more
