I grew up as a Schofield dispensationalist. The book of Revelation and eschatology was always depressing. But, it never completely convinced me. Your teaching (among others) have given me a new perspective on Revelation and I'd like to thank you for it. Your approach makes so much more sense.
👍🏻🙏 same here. RC Stroll did a RUclips video with respect to partial preterism when he came out dispensenionalism.. Of course Stuart Russelll book is a classic !
As always, many thanks for these wonderful lectures. I love the theology lesson combined with the history lesson. Your students are truly blessed to have you as a teacher. Your Sunday School lesson on statist worship is very relevant in our current time.
I just told my friends on FB that I’m starting to feel like a Christian in Nero’s Rome. I could have added like Jews in Hitler’s Germany. So many parallels! Thanks again for this great lecture.
For the last decade,, I've been learning to read scripture in it's original historical context.. Your lectures have helped me immensely. Sometimes I will binge watch/listen all day. I will try to do better liking and sharing them because everyone could benefit from a little "Gore 101" 😆. God bless you sir for all your labor.
An eighth is a perfect choice of words. The Vespasian were a new line so they were not from among the 7 Nero-tribe :) ceasars, but were a continuation of their rule. So neither THE eight nor a descendant of the ceasars, but holding the ceasar power. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 ❤️
Such amazing insights and wisdom, I just don't get how most protestants fumble it when it comes to eschatology. I used to be one of them! I don't know how I could have been so blind! I guess it's because we trust 'prophets seeking profit' more and are just too lazy and don't spend enough time on our own actually reading and studying our own bibles.
Many have been hoodwinked by Darby, Scofield, Hollywood etc and just parrot what they see or hear. Serious reading and study of Scripture is necessary in order to discern the Truth.
How do you remember all this stuff? I've watched the entire series and you know the names, dates, everything. You even have the whole book of Revelation memorized! Just amazing!!!! :)
I agree and I love the historical background Bruce provides...., These teachings are beautiful and so spiritually uplifting.... (And I believe Bruce reads the whole New Testament straight from the Greek !)
Blessings to you from Australia, Bruce. I have been immensely encouraged and informed by your studies on the book of Revelation - particularly as I also have a similar testimony regarding my own 'exodus' out of dispensationalism! To help me further, I was wondering if you are able to provide more insight/resources on how you reached your conclusion regarding what (or who) the "ten horns" are referring to in Rev 17:12. You list them in your video as being 10 imperial provinces of 1st century Rome - I attempted to find some sort of historical support of this, but to no avail. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Praise God for you, brother.
Thank you! The view that the ten horns are Roman provinces has been argued by many. One good example is F.W. Farrar, The Early Days of Christianity, 1882).
Great vid, thanks as usual. I do not believe the translation you read is what it is supposed to say, it is a small error/change but it can make a huge difference. The verse you showed says, "The beast *AND* the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute" but what it should say is, "The ten horns *UPON* the beast will hate the prostitute" as some versions do say. The word 'and' is not there. The horns turn and hate the prostitute, but the beast does NOT hate the prostitute and does not turn on her. I also do not see how the 'great city' being referenced here is Jerusalem because the Jerusalem never ruled over the kings of the Earth.... but Rome certainly did. Here is the breakdown I see: Julius Caesar - Does not count because he was not Emperor. Five fallen 1 - Augustus (Octavian) 2 - Tiberius 3 - Caligula 4 - Claudius 5 - Nero 3 plucked up before him as per Daniel 1 - Galba 2 - Otho 3 - Vitellius One is (69 or 70 AD is when revelation was written as he clearly says one *IS* currently ruling) 6 - Vespasian another not yet come, but when he does he remains a short while 7 - Titus (only rules a whopping 2 years) eighth of the seven 8 - Domitian (Brother of Titus and is therefore of the 7) No other count that I have seen works (for these specific kings). Those who say Galba, Otho or Vitellius are the 7th that is there a short while make absolutely no sense because there were 3 in rapid succession that were all 'short'. People just outright ignore this in their count and they also fail to account for the 3 that are plucked up in Daniel. But I will say, that using this count, not only does it show that Revelation was not written in 95 but it also shows that revelation goes beyond 70 AD, at least up to Domitian and some of the things said in revelation are actually referring to Rome and not Jerusalem. (NOT papal Rome)
Thanks for your thoughts. The Greek of Revelation 17:19 uses the word 'and' (Greek 'kai') not 'upon' (Greek 'epi'). If you are interested in learning Greek, I offer a programmatic online course at a modest price.
Revelation 17:18, "basileia" - Definition: kingdom, sovereignty, royal power Usage: kingship, sovereignty, authority, rule, especially of God, both in the world, and in the hearts of men; hence: kingdom, in the concrete sense. This from Strong's. Seems to me the "Great City" is being described as the chosen, sovereign dominion of God, rather than merely only reigning over the kings of the earth. Jerusalem would qualify; Rome would not. IMO, not usually translated strongly in most versions.
@@GoreBruce The text that he was using is the KJV which was based upon the Textus Receptus. The TR reads: και τα δεκα κερατα α ειδες επι το θηριον ουτοι μισησουσιν την πορνην και ηρημωμενην ποιησουσιν αυτην και γυμνην και τας σαρκας αυτης φαγονται και αυτην κατακαυσουσιν εν πυρι It does read “epi” (upon). However, the TR is notorious faulty in Revelation. The modern critical texts of course have και “and” Rev 17:16 καὶ τὰ δέκα κέρατα ἃ εἶδες καὶ τὸ θηρίον, οὗτοι μισήσουσιν τὴν πόρνην, καὶ ἠρημωμένην ποιήσουσιν αὐτὴν καὶ γυμνήν, καὶ τὰς σάρκας αὐτῆς φάγονται, καὶ αὐτὴν κατακαύσουσιν ἐν πυρί·

Thank you. I grew up in the same tradition. It has been deeply liberating to see this amazing book in a new and better light!
Comments like your give me real joy!

When will your next video on revelation come out?
As a rule a new installment comes out each Tuesday.
