So I'm LDS my little brother served in Oslo Norway and they have this play at one of the theaters there which they would sit outside the theater after the performance to give out copies of the book of Mormon to people as they walked out the theater. He said it was pretty fun doing that as people loved seeing real missionaries after the show.
I'm LDS too, and helping my son prepare to serve a mission in a few months!! I'm so excited for him to serve the Lord. However, I've heard this musical is a mockery of the gospel and the Lord.
@Madison and Emma Pheysey I am also a member, and can say that this is the absolute crap that I get up for every Sunday morning. Not that the people who are part of the church are bad, I just personally love this entire play so much because I have been raised in this church and have hated it all of my life. A play making fun of this church is the absolute best thing ever.
Just spoke with a Mormon male in Louisville, KY. He knew the info in the Book of Mormon, but nothing outside it. He did not know that a Brigham Young statue had painted thrown on it. Our discussion about polygamy was insane. He justified it by saying an angel told Joseph Smith to do it, and said angel told them to stop it, He had no idea about all the bad things Brigham Young did.
The timing it takes to get all those performers creating that cadence with their vocal performance is quite something...at one point I half expected them to start singing 'Welcome To DuLoc'

As a native Utahn, with many LDS relatives, co'workers, ex-classmates and neighbors growing up, I can honestly say that this musical is a masterpiece! And every song from it that I've seen and heard makes me smile! ^_^
I went in blind as well. 2 weeks ago on Broadway. It really is the best way to see it. I'm going to see the traveling cast locally where the people are more conservative so I'm hoping the crowd is as good as it was on Broadway. I told my friends to not even THINK about looking up any songs or what the musical is about.
I heard this story about how one time this girl and her mom went to go see it on broadway, but because it was a school night, they were planning to just go right after the bows. They got in the car and the girl looked over and thought she saw some of the actors outside in costume so she asked her mom if she could go ask them to sign her playbill. Her mom said yes and didn’t see any harm in doing so. They weren’t actors They were actual mormons.
If a mormon comes to my door, if they sing this song, I will let them tell me about their faith. Otherwise, I am gonna have to just give the traditional greeting you give to anyone coming to my door to spread their faith.
I'm Mormon and I'm getting ready to go on a mission and I find myself singing this all the time haha. When I watch videos of this song it always seems to me that parts of this musical could have been written by Mormons because we like to make fun of ourselves sometimes like in skits for church activities. I do fear that some people may take it the wrong way. To any Mormons who are offended by this, I totally understand, it is poking fun at something that is very important to us. But the best way to not feel offended is to laugh along and realize that not everyone who watches this musical is out to get you. They are just poking fun. I mean, let's be honest, I have met many a missionary who act like Elder Price when they first get into the mission field haha! =)
It is actually a very new thing...the Brits have been great at this for a long time, but Americans generally did NOT have a sense of humor about themselves until recently and it is thanks a lot to Sacha Baron Cohen and 'Borat'....
As a mormon missionary that I was, I can declare all of this parody makes me remember my time serving a mission. Elder Cunningham, obviously, was the best part.
We had two elders (ironically just two 19 year old kids despite the name) over for dinner at my gf's parents house the other weekend (they're LDS obviously) and I'm cracking up because I'm sure about 90% of what was sang, at some point came up during our discussion at dinner. I really hope they start showing this musical again now that Broadway is back open.
So what you will about Trey Parker and Matt Stone, they are really factual when they make fun on something. My morman friend actually really enjoyed this musical except the fuck you god song. Wouldn’t have it removed but doesn’t enjoy it on a personal level.
I knew someone who was Mormon. She was really friendly and used to cook and bake for people. I met some Mormon people. They seemed extremely knowledgeable about other religions and seemed like philosophers. They asked me what happens after we die. I said we turn into fossil. They said we all go to three parts of heaven, but I am still with my own religion. Thank you
Why is everything NPH does instantly the best thing ever? He appears on stage and I love it. He could just stand silently in a dark room for 4 hours and I would still pay to see that.
I can kind of get why people poke fun at Mormonism, as it is sort of extreme in how far it takes it's religion.... But I don't get why people poke fun at Mormons themselves. Because I've yet to meet one single Mormon who wasn't just the nicest person in the world. I feel like they've really taken the values of Christianity to heart and it really shows in their behavior.
Because they are cherry pickers. The "true Christian values" are vulgar, brutal, and cruel. So "Because I've yet to meet one single Mormon who wasn't just the nicest person in the world." Exactly. They have not only created a whole other religion that makes even more contradictions and undermines the bible, they don't follow the true vulgar values that were put in the first place. Aka Cherry pickers.
Adorabelle1 I disagree with you premise. But even if they did cherry pick it all to make a religion they liked, they've still done a way better job of any of the other churches who've done the exact same thing.
Hannah, what you say about family values only applies as long as each family member remains active in the church. If anyone decides they no longer believe, then Mormonism is one of the worst religions for family values, as that person is often ostracized and dis-inherited.
I hate how other churches say false info about the mormon curch and that we have rules like not allowed to go out on sundays but in the ten comandments it clearly states keep the sabath day holy

I hope to achieve Elder White's level of happiness one day.

…Well I have this free book written by Jesus 😃
So I'm LDS my little brother served in Oslo Norway and they have this play at one of the theaters there which they would sit outside the theater after the performance to give out copies of the book of Mormon to people as they walked out the theater. He said it was pretty fun doing that as people loved seeing real missionaries after the show.
Truly Heavenly Father can use anything, even a parody of the Gospel, as a proselytising tool.
That sounds fun lol
I’m lds my sister jsut got back from her mission a month ago
I'm LDS too, and helping my son prepare to serve a mission in a few months!! I'm so excited for him to serve the Lord. However, I've heard this musical is a mockery of the gospel and the Lord.
@@IshDaFishPickleball you can flee the cult, i believe in you
@@IshDaFishPickleball To be fair, there is much to mock.
As a non-mormon living in Utah, I can personally say that this is pretty much exactly correct😂
Ooo opportunity you will be found I mean saved
@Madison and Emma Pheysey I am also a member, and can say that this is the absolute crap that I get up for every Sunday morning. Not that the people who are part of the church are bad, I just personally love this entire play so much because I have been raised in this church and have hated it all of my life. A play making fun of this church is the absolute best thing ever.
mormonistan
Just spoke with a Mormon male in Louisville, KY. He knew the info in the Book of Mormon, but nothing outside it. He did not know that a Brigham Young statue had painted thrown on it. Our discussion about polygamy was insane. He justified it by saying an angel told Joseph Smith to do it, and said angel told them to stop it, He had no idea about all the bad things Brigham Young did.
Is this a parody
Or genuine show made by Mormons ?
I think if my surname was Wand I would feel obliged to become Mormon.
Total Randomness Hello! My name is Elder Wand! Harry Potter Fan: YAY POTTERHEAD MORMON!
I actually met an Elder Berry. I said "you get teased all day long, don't you?"
😂😂😂😂😂
Or, when you get old you are an elder wand.
That was so totally random 😏
Can we just talk about the adorable reactions of elder White and elder Grant when elder Cunningham comes on?
Laura Kl. I know it's so cute
I love the part where they go all Chorus mode and all their voices just blend perfectly together.
This book will change your life so you don't burn in hee-

O!
Their expressions are amazing

Which one of them? There is a cut between two people in this part

Elder White with the hilarious facial expressions and the amazing Hell-o
Whoever that man is, he kills it😭
Elder White with the best facial expressions in the game.
I know the choreography is super simple and not really dancing but their so together with everything I can’t help but appreciate it
Elder White’s facial expressions should have won their own Tony.
The timing it takes to get all those performers creating that cadence with their vocal performance is quite something...at one point I half expected them to start singing 'Welcome To DuLoc'
Kind of wish I could find a version with Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells
The best cast...

As a native Utahn, with many LDS relatives, co'workers, ex-classmates and neighbors growing up, I can honestly say that this musical is a masterpiece! And every song from it that I've seen and heard makes me smile! ^_^
Elder White's facial expressions! HAHA! I love this!
Yeah! He reminds me of the actor Will Poulter😅
I am playing elder white in a production.... Its nice to know that the audience think he is good :)
James Earl Jones… thank you for everything, KING!!!
0:58 his expressions are so adorable
Josh gad will always be my elder Cunningham
Maia Adolphs Ben Platt will always be mine
The Darth Vader picture is the icing on the cake.
Technically, darth Vader made a cameo in Book of Mormon
Can you believe I went into this play blind? I was floored! One of the best plays I saw as an adult.
They weren’t actors
They were actual mormons.
If a mormon comes to my door, if they sing this song, I will let them tell me about their faith. Otherwise, I am gonna have to just give the traditional greeting you give to anyone coming to my door to spread their faith.
Just saw Book of Mormon at matinee session today in Adelaide, Australia. Loved it! Made us laugh out loud. Standing ovation!
I just saw this AGAIN, last night here in Chicago.. it is so freaking good..
Saw it today. Absolutely amazing show. The greatest thing I've ever seen. Beyond brilliant.
Hi I'm Elder Cunningham and I like warm hugs!
Mormons aren't allowed to hug.

whooooosh
If anyone is offended by this, just turn those feelings off, like a light switch
Mormons are not true christians
You should totally watch the rest
yes they are
William Woelke why not? We believe in god, Jesus, and the holy spirit
that "Hell-HELLOOOOOOOOOOO" is PHENOMENAL

I have a lot of respect for the american people because of how they can make fun of themselves. This is rare in other countries.
Try British...
Faisal Iftikhar was literally gonna say...
@@faisal1582 I concur on that one. Russell Howard's comedy is rife with it.
I would say the book of mormon stands out with that
It is actually a very new thing...the Brits have been great at this for a long time, but Americans generally did NOT have a sense of humor about themselves until recently and it is thanks a lot to Sacha Baron Cohen and 'Borat'....
"have fun in hell" hahahhaha WTF? I've watched this video like 30 times and I just happen to hear that part now?! haha
Have fun in hell
HEY NOW!
+Tom Black ....... so you won't burn in Helllll-Heeeeelloooooooooooo!
As a mormon missionary that I was, I can declare all of this parody makes me remember my time serving a mission. Elder Cunningham, obviously, was the best part.
It's tradition to watch this video once a while and find an expression or a weird "Hello" you might have missed.
I don't make the rules.
Thank you
The facial expressions in this are outstanding!
What an honest to god bop XD "So you won't burn in- HELLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO" gets me everytime XD
Elder Grant's eyes just like light up with the crazy when he rings the doorbell 😂😂
Why is everything NPH does instantly the best thing ever?
He appears on stage and I love it. He could just stand silently in a dark room for 4 hours and I would still pay to see that.
Most fun I've ever had watching a show.
Everyone in the audience had the biggest grins on their faces.
Aw, theyre so adorable! Idk why but I just find their little "ding-dong"s so cute
I know!!
If anyone decides they no longer believe, then Mormonism is one of the worst religions for family values, as that person is often ostracized and dis-inherited.
come meet the mormons in utah and you'll take that back
Hannah Overton Im a Mormon, and I say *FUCK YOU*
James Earl Jones coming out ready to autograph a Darth Vader pic gets me every time.
Went to see this today. Absolutely blown away by the story, songs, comedy and performances. Edgy and shocking it was a wonderful time.
It doesn't seem right without Josh Gad playing elder Cunningham.
Or Andrew Rannells as Elder Price!

I love Ben Platt as Elder Cunningham personally :)
Brian Sears is an amazing Cunningham.
I'm seeing a lot of "This is offensive to Mormons"
The Church of LDS has been advertising in the playbooks for this show for years...
+Ally McCulloch yes it has. I saw the show in LA and there was an ad right in the playbill. "Now that you've seen the show, read the book!"
+Pichipichiprincess that's clever, actually.
I hate how other churches say false info about the mormon curch and that we have rules like not allowed to go out on sundays but in the ten comandments it clearly states keep the sabath day holy
