I've been following Alt-J since their first album. They've definitely grown and their music has branched out. In my opinion, their albums have become less and less "accessible", which is not really a bad thing. For example, This Is All Yours took almost a year for me to truly appreciate all the tracks (especially The Gospel of John Hurt bc my God that song is amazing). I admit, I was misleaded with Relaxer since 3WW and In Cold Blood sounded much like the 'old Alt-J' and when the actual album was released, I was surprised. I think I'm slowly learning to love their more unusual tracks like this one and (probably my favourite at the moment) Hit Me Like That Snare. Back to this performance, I think the problem is that Alt-J has gotten more recognition therefore they're playing main stages and their sound isn't really meant for a stage as big as this. If you watch their performance for KEXP, with a much smaller audience and stage, their sound is really at it's peak. I wouldn't say that Alt-J can't play a stage as big as a Glasto stage, but at the same time, they're still writing music that is meant for a smaller setting. but then again, this is just my lengthy opinion lol
Yes, I agree with the accessibility of the songs. But to me RELAXER is their least consistent album yet. I really liked An Awesome Wave because of its Intros, Interludes, and how the songs blend well together that make the record sound consistent and natural. I also prefer their old song writing style because they were more complex and creative.
Nikko M totally agreed! An Awesome Wave is one of my favourite albums because of the flow of the entire album. It had a sense of beginning and an end, which is what I love in albums. I'm not really fond of albums that just have random singles thrown in. Although, I think 3WW is a pretty good opener for Relaxer...even though it's not really an intro ☺️
You are so on point! I just saw them a week ago at the festival where they played at the biggest stage, it was my second time seeing them and I could not figure out why I liked them better for the first time when they played smaller stage in Prague. You are also right about their music. Even though I like their first album the best I usually dont really talk about it because Relaxer is something new that they bring. I try not to compare those two albums, there is no point in comparing. Sometimes I feel like listening their old songs so I go back to Something good or Taro. Other times, I feel like shouting "Fu*k you I'll do what I want to do" :) I take what they bring because I know they really thought it through before releasing and I eventually find myself falling in love with every song anyway :)
I saw them live 2 weeks ago. best concert of my life. I dont know why the videos dont sound like the real perfomance. You have to see them live to judge their perfomance on stage ;)
i fucking love this weird-ass band
they always have awesome stage lights
So happy that they are getting more recognition!

1687angel after reading your comment i have nothing to add great band hope they will not fall in the mainstream trap
Most under-rated band
I got to see this concert at RED ROCKS!!! Fool moon and my first RED ROCKS CONCERT!!❤❤❤❤
Can't wait to see them live
nonamegee omg me too!!!
Extraordinarily!
Pretty teeths
Loved this band forever
Everyone is hating on the new album smh...i think one of their best albums
música viciante do caramba!
That beat.
Are they casting spell?
Eu tinha uma certa antipatia pela banda, mas eles são muito bons! Com certeza vai pro meu playlist :)
The "extra" at the beginning sounded like a sneeze
love them
What's with the critics in the comments? It sounds as groovy live as it is on record!🔥
amazing band and amazing performance
Interesting mix of Devo , Rush and Beck.
Even though this performance doesn't sound like the recording I think the song is so good that it still makes for a great show
its because the recoding is so fucking good. It's hard to hard to replicate
I dont think they're actually saying words
honestly, i love the record, but they should practice their live set more !!
They were better live when they had 4 people on stage. Saw them at Glasto in '13, '15 and '17, and '15 was peak Alt-J.
∆
did u notice the trump make america great again flag lol
Is that really a Trump flag I keep seeing being waved around in the crowd... ?
I love alt j but this was pretty bad for them
i love them but this was quite bad. i know they are good its just this performance might be abit off
i love deadcrush but this live is horrible. hope they work on that!
I like Alt j but this performance is really bad
yeah no kidding, not only does the sound mixing sound shite but the lead singer is far from being on point
and people just comment that it's great or "extraordinary" but it's just not

I was there at this performance about 20ft from the front and it sounds way better than it does in this video.
same here! These guys really were amazing! Don't know what happened with this video :O
This music's not ideal for concerts 😅
Nonsense, it sounds awesome live.
This is the only song I like of theirs
The new album is such a disappointment and this is was bloody hard to listen to
i believe the new long player to be 8 tracks of sublime genius. taste. terribly subjective.
I love it but this performance is not good.
Bon Iver’s live shows entertain me more than Alt-J’s.
Alt-J is awesome
So go write that under Bon Iver's performance why crap here?
