Cliff Williams taught me that you didn't have to be like Flea, Claypool, or Burton to do your job as a bassist correctly. He was an inspiration and a very underrated bassist. Hopefully they get a good replacement.
Honestly, it's heartbreaking to hear the my favorite bass player and the reason I started to play bass is retiring. But, I definitely understand why and wish him all the best.
+CMBalkoth i cried when i heard the news he is the reason why i am startimg to play bass he was my favorite bass player and he was my main inspiration and still is.
Never realized that somebody could make sotmething so simple sound so good. That's what made me want to start hahaha Sin City was the first song I learned

Trust me when I say there is no health issue besides the fact that he's 67 years old and he's tired. From what my parents tell me, he's the nicest most humble man you could ever meet and his parents are/were the same way. I wish him a happy retirement ands thank him and his band mates for some great entertainment throughout my 38 years.
scirishrugger usually Real Bass Players are humble by default as that role requires it. Every bassist out there who behaves different is a guitarist/frontman in their hearts, not a Bassist.
Now that he's rejoined and the dust has settled, I'd say that's exactly why he left. That and how Angus was running the band into the ground at that point with Axl. I am one of the biggest AC/DC fans and I felt like they pissed all over their legacy by entertaining the idea of Axl replacing Brian! Thankfully Angus listened and wisened up!
After 21 years, my whole life, seems like AC/DC will enjoy their well earned rest. Thanks for every single second your music was by my side, and thanks for every single second your music will be by my side.
I was lucky enough to watch them live in 2010 in Bilbao. I think it ended up being the last show with Malcom and Phil, and there are no words to describe the thrill of watching AC/DC live.
LadyAC/DC Angus Young Fan12 I was 15 and went with my father, my uncle and a couple of friends. Didn't sleep in like two days to be able to make it to the show and back, but worth every damn second.
I know it is I thought the same for the show I went too I've got videos on my RUclips account sure I don't like Axl but I went for Angus Young and out of respect for Brian,Mal and Phill
The last tour before the Rock Or Bust tour was the Black Ice tour which lasted from October 2008 to June 2010 and included Phil Rudd on drums, Malcolm Young on rhythm guitar, Cliff Williams on bass guitar, Brian Johnson on vocals and Angus Young on lead guitar. I was fortunate enough to have seen both tours.
I saw the guys in 1979 at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, TN open Rush. Ticket was $5.00. That's a memory I'll always look back on fondly. I had heard LTBR on the radio just a few weeks before and was blown away. SO glad I was able to see Bonus with them before he died the same year. Only saw them once more on the BIB tour in 1981 and was again blown away by Brian. Man...this just sucks. Thanks to all of them for a great 36 years for me.
I 1000% agree! I was okay with Stevie and Chris Slade, but without Brian and Cliff thats it for AC/DC for me. Yet even then without Malcolm and Phil that was already the beginning of the end.
I love how even though this video is not an interview, he kept his message to people as it was an interview. It only proved again how humble he is. He didn't make it all drama, staring into camera and making a big sensation of his departure. He just said a few simple words, the same way he always did, he hasn't changed a bit since that young boy 40 years ago. What a class. What a legend.
Thanks for the update in person!! I don't blame you one bit, go enjoy your life and THANKS SO MUCH for your contribution and influence in the world of ROCK and ROLL music!!
I'm really sad to see him go. He was always the quiet guy, but he gave so much to the band. Thanks a lot Cliff. You are an amazing bassist. Also if this is AC/DC's last album and tour obviously I will be really sad. However, I'm so happy I got to see them in St. Louis with my dad right before Brian left. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. Again, thank you to Cliff and AC/DC. \m/
Oh no, you are the reason why I want to be perfect in playing bass. I am a really big fan of you. It is so sad. Please, have a great time with your family. Greetings from Germany Jessica :) I am so glad that I saw you last year. You are my big inspiration. And I hope that I can play like you one day :) You are one of the most important bass player in this world.

The bands you named are very great too. Omg I love Kiss 😍 My list is to short but if I want to list all great musicians, I would write forever. There is no ending...
Wow that's so nice. :) I really love it that Kiss went on tour with The Dead Daisies. Yeah of course, don't forget Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Chuck Berry :)
Enjoy the spoils of your success, Cliff. Thanks for 40 years of the most kick-ass hard rocking bass lines in the world. I still listen to AC/DC every day. We will miss you!
For those about to walk... WE SALUTE YOU! Thanks for everything, Cliff. I wish you & yours all the best. Same to the band. Best rock n' roll band that ever was or will be.
And in 2020 Cliff,Brian and Phil are back, unbelievable and awesome. They've done enough big tour's but its great they are giving us more albums, tours come and go but the Albums are with us forever.
Cliff I know you wanted to retire but I know Mal would be so proud of you for coming back for this next album and tour, I hope to see you guys on tour hopefully in the future. Despite covid 19. We respected your wish to retire but we are truly grateful we (as in the fans obviously) to have you back in Mal’s honor.
I really hope you dont forget me cliff remember me talking to you about 5 years ago you me and my grandpa we talked for awhile in ft Myers I am Bryce gephart if you forget

I guess when theres no more rock, it's a bust...and sorry, it was bust for me when Brian left. Good on cliff for doing the right thing and walking away from it. Wish Angus could see that it's got to be done and it's a shadow of what it was. I can't say I believe him when he says it had nothing to do with Mal and Brian's departures. It's time guys. You've given your audience everything...you've earned it.
The greatest and most successful Rock band in Rock history it's time to hang up your gear and retire whilst you can. You've been an inspiration for countless other artists over the decades and have been my favourite rock band ever since I first discovered you in 1983 at the tender age of 12.
