AC/DC as individuals are underrated which is crazy as hell. They never got the press they should have here in the U.S. because of Tipper Gore and her bullshit vendetta against their music. They have been my favorite band for 44 yrs.
MarkanVaran7. The bass on Shot Down in Flames is not a "groove". The bass on that song is the Drive. It drives the verses and lays back on the chorus. Just pure effin 8s the whole way through except for the chorus. It's really the epitome of rock bass or how it should be. You can lose yourself and never miss a movement. Just listen to the guitars for your movements. The whole song itself is so complex in its simplicity that it's almost magic. If you can play bass it seems natural even at the end hitting the twelfth fret on the G string and then the A string with a slide down. You don't even have to think about it too much. This is probably my favorite ACDC songs. To play and listen to.
Cliff is the unsung hero of the band. Very quite and humble guy who just goes out there, stands back in the wings and rocks with the best rock band ever. Who wouldn't give their right nut to play with this band, for 100,000 people, just once. He got to do it for 40 years.

This is so true. In all my years of listening to rock it seems like most of the time the bassist is least shown or spoken about. They all deserve equal recognition as they are the driving force behind the band.
For me cliff's greatest song where he did his greatest bass player was on a song from his first album ever with AC/DC their 1978 album powerage on the track sin city he had this jazz thing going on midway through the song and it actually sounded awesome. There will never be another bass player like cliff he truly is one of a kind 🤘🤘

The greatest rhythm section in rocknroll in my humble opinion, Malcolm RIP, Cliff and Phil Rudd. It is their foundation upon which AC/DC's sound is built. Without the swing that they provide it just wouldn't sound the same. A lot of bands (Krokus, Rhino Bucket, Airborne, Burnt Out Wreck) try to sound like AC/DC and produce entertaining music, but they can't quite replicate the feel and that swing that the classic DC rhythm section had.
@@jackthomson5047 Always swingin, there's even an interview with Angus where he explains what he means by saying they're a Rock n Roll Band and not a Rock Band.
Rudd is the foundation of that swing too. That's why Chris Slade only sounds good on The Razor's Edge material. He was their drummer when they did it and it meshed well but the rest of their music was all pretty much written with Rudd behind the kit and as Brian Johnson says "If it doesn't swing, it doesn't mean a thing.." The rest of the music feels sloppy and unorganized with Slade drumming because it just doesn't quite fit.
@@jackthomson5047 Rudd's timing is flawless but there is a "Swing" in his beat that is required for the proper sound. A simple accented stagger in the hihat and a late snare pretty much is the main difference. You can hit the bass drum a touch early too putting a little more delay between it and the snare for added effect. There is a trick with the hihat he does as well that not only make it half the effort but also gives it a different accent and tone by making every other strike towards the top of the hihat with the tip of the stick and the egde of it with the side of the stick. Watch him carefully sometime , It's slick as hell and he can do it all while smoking a cigarette!
They really took off with Cliff on bass. The perfect pick! He had that certain less is more thing to add. Very underrated as a bass player, Cliff Williams! Absolutely not ego driven like todays lead bassists.
My God this guy must have done something good in his last life? He had the easiest job that has ever been in Rock n Roll. Money for nothing and chicks for free.
If you would know anything about playing the bass, then you would know that playing like Cliff is anything but easy. Many players can play his basslines, but no one sounds like him. That goes for all other members of AC/DC as well.
Bullshit Neil. He and the drummer served the music, forming the ideal backbone for Angus. Great respect for the guy to serve all his career. As a bass player myself I wouldn't have the patience or find enough pleasure to only serve and only laying down the perfect basis for the guitarist. Angus would be thankful.
Another armchair musician who has no idea how music is made or what really goes into it. Everyone thinks that hard, loud and fast takes the most effort or skill and they couldn't be more wrong. It's actually pretty easy to belt everything out at high volume with no dynamic control. Having dynamics and being able to play at any tempo with detail and feeling and doing it with skill and finesse is far harder. Add doing that EXACTLY the same way every time and it gets even harder.
The greatest band in history...my addiction since 1976.....AC/DC nobody but nobody in my book compares to them....AC/DC and the three stooges prevent and cure depression..

AC/DC wasn't the same without Bon - and don't quote "Back In Black" at me as evidence against this because Bon wrote most of the stuff on there. Then they lost Malcolm and that should have been the end. Carrying on is like Iommi dragging the Sabbath name through the mud in the late 80s.

I've met cliff and he's a down to earth kinda guy.
They really took off with Cliff on bass. The perfect pick! He had that certain less is more thing to add. Very underrated as a bass player, Cliff Williams! Absolutely not ego driven like todays lead bassists.
It’s all about the song. Not the player.
Wolfgang...AMEN!!!
The whole band is less is more. Pure energy. Casuals wouldn't understand.
I appreciate the man he is, he is humble, I respect him and he is a very good bassist
He was in a UK band called Home... Great country-rock!
Good bassist!!!
My God this guy must have done something good in his last life? He had the easiest job that has ever been in Rock n Roll. Money for nothing and chicks for free.
Neil Aspinall Money for nothing? Man, yeah ok he plays simple bass lines, but it gives only the Perfect ground for the huge ACDC Sound
Love all of AC/DC😍
He keeps a steady thunder in every song. Woudln't be AC DC without him!
Powerage has always been my favourite album, still have the original album 😁
Great to have you back Cliff! Power Up!!
Cliff Williams and his entire family, parents and children are all 1st class very down to earth great people. A gentleman he is.
He did an album called The Razor’s Edge” with us. He might have added we had a small hit called Thunderstruck
Cliffs got some amazing hair 🤘
Love you guys so much Thank you for all the beautiful music :-)
The Razors Edge was released in 1990 🤦♂️
The greatest band in history...my addiction since 1976.....AC/DC nobody but nobody in my book compares to them....AC/DC and the three stooges prevent and cure depression..
AMEN BROTHER!!! Since 1977 here.
Cliff is the Best..a super great Bass player & perfect fit for AC⚡DC..!!!
Cliff thanks for coming back we (the fans once again) appreciate you for what you do for the band and are happy your back! Even if it is temporary so I’ve heard online? I don’t know if I believe everything I hear online? Whoever they get next if they do get another person or if you decide to stay just know us the true fans support whatever you decide to do!🤘🎸🤘🎸 and we salute you!
He is respectful of the band, & outstanding COOL !
The Great Cliffs of Bass
Cliff Burton and Cliff Williams
A shy and quiet guy, but no one understands AC/DC like he does and because of that, this band has that great sound.
Do video like this but about Angus
AC/DC wasn't the same without Bon - and don't quote "Back In Black" at me as evidence against this because Bon wrote most of the stuff on there. Then they lost Malcolm and that should have been the end. Carrying on is like Iommi dragging the Sabbath name through the mud in the late 80s.
Bon wrote most of the back in black album ??? That's why it says all songs by young/young/johnson.
Malcolm told Angus he wanted the band to keep playing and I'm sure they did it to pay respects to him
Looks like the thorough enjoyment with all the axl grease didn't last too long.. maybe better so..
CLIFF, YOU ARE A GREAT MUSICIAN.THANK YOU FOR BEING WITH AC/DC FOR ALL THESE YEARS
Bless you Cliff. I have bounced my head to your notes more times than I can remember.
Cliff plays with all the power of a Thunder God! Silent legend.
Him and the phil or Chris are the engine that’s drives the music
Legendary bassist for acdc wish he was still in the band such a nice fellow too
THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD
He's still got the hair style he had in the 70s
70 years old! I hope he stays with AC/DC.
Glad to see Cliff back for their new album. The chemistry is still there.👍🎸
Absolutely one of the all-time greats. You don't need to be fancy, you just need to be.
touring in a tiny camper being pulled by a trabant?
Cliff is WAAAAY underrated. Solid player whos great live in concert.
Such a humble sweet guy. Not like most of these celebrity musos.
He’s so chill and him and the drummer keeps the song going and sounding badass
I'm really sad Bon and Malcolm are no longer with us
Cliff has the sweetest job in the world.🤘🏻
