    you should do some episodes checking out random cars at random dealers to show how you check a car properly before buying, i am sure would be useful for most of us because it's very hard for a "normal" person to spot some serious issues on the go.

  • @gordan79
    @gordan79 3 года назад +1

    So the two things wrong with it were a boost / vacuum leak and a slightly tired suspension compressor? That's pretty minor for a car like that, fixable for around 1-3% of the asking price.
    My biggest annoyance with the V12 Q7 is that the gearshifts are deliberately detuned to prevent destroying the gearbox in a very short time. It shifts more like a manual, throttle-by-wire lifts off the throttle until the next gear is fully engaged before reapplying it. There's probably close to a second to be trimmed off the 0-60 time by deleting that feature, but you'll probably end up disintegrating the gearbox within a few drag runs.
    £30K is a ludicrous price, though, by any measure. I bought a LHD one in Germany in November for under €15K.

    Its a V12 with a k+n sticker on. Its almost certainly spent most of its time mapped and theres a decent chance its been hammered with that too.
    When its started to show signs its on the way (lower response/etc) they prob pulled the map off and traded it in.
    The dealer is just chancing it. Hoping the warranty picks it up is a real bad way to do business and on a £30k car its disgusting.

    • @georgemarshall6657

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 3 года назад

      @@georgemarshall6657 I know of no dealer with premesis who wouldn't at least scan the obd along with the usual background checks. Thats basic practice these days - along with noticing a k+n sticker which should ring alarm bells anyway on a diesel. Its almost a guarantee its been mapped based on that alone. In itself thats not a problem but when you look at the mileage and age then add in that a mapped car will wear things out faster any dealer would start doing a lot of digging unless they just didn't care.
      Warranty makes people not care.

      Darkside Developments yeah i paid 6800€ or around 6100£. it has almost brand new ceramic brakes, less than 9000 km on them. just those are worth what i paid for the car. glow plug 12 had oil on it, and the car said oil pressure loss when it happened and the engine doesnt turn, so i guess something happened to piston 12, either a ring or ring bar broke. Engine is almost out. Just a heads up, there is very little room for additional intercoolers. the car has 10 radiators as is, 5 for water, 2 charge air (left and right kidneys), a/c, oil and servo oil. there might be space for an additional intercooler in the middle,before all others, but getting it connected will be very hard, there is very very little space. That engine is humongous. You can‘t even turn the engine with a socket without uninstalling the fan shroud. You can follow my progress on insta if you want @gekko_performance

    OMG this reminds me of the horror story when I got my mrs a V6TDI Q7 2 years ago.78k, 2 prv owners, full dealer history and an external warranty.
    Inside & out car looked good, drive well but then I ran into all sorts of issues very soon after :(
    Warranty company was useless (not worth the paper it was written on) dealer did sort out the earlier issues, but gave up after a few months (I say months as we had Abs issues, HVAC issues, inst cluster issues, turbo issues....i could go on)
    Needless to say, the car is no longer with us
    O how I wish I took my VCDS laptop with me (or even a basic reader) but I totally forgot.
    It wasnt until I got home and performed a basic read I found the horrors that lied within.

    I have an audi a6 avant 2.0 pd 140 BRE
    The torsion value is -2.9°KW at idle.Is it worth adjusting the timing? The idle can be rough when it gets up to temperature, but drives spot on otherwise.

      Lovely,
      For the exhaust cam timing I've seen the fuel consumption on measuring block 15 being used to determine that the timing is correct,its meant to be between 0.4 - 0.6 l/h.
      Is this a good indicator for the exhaust cam timing?
