I love your inventiveness, and it’s helping me lose my fear of trying this. I was overwhelmed with the great looking but technically beyond me builds...now I find myself looking around my house thinking of what I could use in a van. Great ideas!
Love the simple, brilliant ideas you come up with. One suggestion I would make; use spacers between the heater and the board to avoid heat transfer.
Don't know if I would mount the board to a piece of potentially famable wood. I would at least add some flashing in between the boad and the heeater. maybe some standoffs to allow airflow behind the heater.... Just a thought...
Jon Samuda I was thinking just the same. Looks a bit dangerous to me. If that white plastic starts to melt and your van fills with the fumes of burned plastic. Btw Chrome do you have a smoke detector in your van? Could save two lives, you never know.
I was going to comment the same thing. I thought I would read others first.
I don't know exactly how that heater works, but it appears to be a radiant heater. With the element being towards the back with reflective material, I would think the back would be hot to the touch. That could cause the wood to scorch. The added danger of the plastic trim is something to really think about.
He might want to look into a CO detector also and of course he has a fire extinguisher someplace handy.... Hate to see anything happen to Disco let alone Chrome....

If you don't bleed and or get dirty you did it wrong.
Hope you are not gonna put the pin for the heater in the floor will get full of dirt and look ugly.
Also make shure that the heater doesn't put off heat on the back i would hate for the van to catch on fire.

A great simple idea :-) I have a single burner, but I'm afraid to cook in the van with it for fear I will catch it on fire lol. Your van looks so good. Lookin' good!! Could you hinge your desktop and when you're done with it, fold it in half and put it between the side of your bed and dresser? Also, is Disco's eye ok? It looked so red and he has little spots of pigment loss on his cute little face. Just a concerned dog owner myself. 💟
Chrome, I suggest adding two small (3/4" square strips) that on each end of the shelf where it sits on the shelf. This will keep the drawer from closing and the desk from shifting; This way when Disco jumps up on the bed he can't close the drawer and spill everything off the shelf.

Love the creative, yet simple approach to the desk/table. Your van organization is really coming together well. Looks great and economical too. Suggestion for the cabinet with top space (where you have your two-burner cooktop)...works well in my van-buy a 3 gallon or 5 gallon jug for water. On Amazon, you can get a manual water hand pump for water-inexpensive yet very efficient. (3 gallons are easier to refill & less “top heavy”.). Anyway, great setup and really looks nice and functional. Good work!!!
Your coleman is 8,000 btu dry wood catches fire at 1400 degrees. Make metal shelf in door or slide out. To much moisture and grease and heat inside. Make a chuck wagon box for bumper hitch mount. Put on wheels
Consider mini storage.
Numbered storage boxes under your bed.
Take inventory program record info all you have. Then take excell spread sheet and list each item in each box . Put a number on each box .I e
1 clothing - winter
2. Clothing - uniform
3. Clothing - shoes
4. Pet - food, treats, shampoo , 3rd etc
5. Tools
6 Heigine - shampoo shave cream
7 daughter
8 documents
9 office
I have a cargo trailer with sealed black/Yellow sealed bins. I have it parked at my cuz house. I rent a cottage so cargo trailer is permant storage.
I have a clip board with excel spreadsheet to locate items.
My van was broken into so I use mini storage.
Mini storage security - make sure they have camera security. Thieves cut your lock steal your stuff. You have no clue the rehab lock with super glue! Might talk about security and van alarms.

Chrome, Does the back of the heater get hot? Cause if that is a wood board, well that could be problematic! Fantastic ideas, your simple van is quickly becoming my favourite.
So smart. Most people build first, waste money by having to fix things that aren't working for them later. I have seen that so many times. DON’T screw down burner yet.... find a better way to secure silicone feet or silicone mat. YOU might want to use that space from time to time ...just saying !

Nice easy idea on the desk. The cabinet's came in handy and worked great in your van build. The idea for the heater is also a good plan, but I agree with others. You should put a 1/2" to maybe an 1" between the heater and board. Just for some air flow and safety precautions. Vanlifes great, but you got to play safe. In this video you seemed very excited, like a kid in a candy store. I'm glad you are coming up with new ideas for your van and these idea's help others figure out Thiers. Just curious, how tall are you? I would love to have a bed that goes side to side rather than lengthwise but I’m about 6’2” so I don’t think it’s possible since I will probably have a Chevy express van.

I am liking your build. The floor came out very nice. The new desk is quite clever.
I am taking your approach and staying simple with the element. Plenty of days ahead to design. I think I have 32 square feet to work in. Every thing must be small and have multi uses. The interior on my element has lots of windows so it feels big. It is road ready for a trip later this week. Shake down voyage.
love, love what you're doing. What if you put another set of tall cabinets on the back side of the bed you could put your shoes and things from below the bed and store your DJ gear and bike below. Then you could also have your desk and eating table face out the back door. Sorry, rambling, great work.

Looks awesome dude, I wouldn't screw that burner down and spoil the top, try some self adhesive Velcro to keep it on, or suckers maybe. Just an idea. Stay weird, stay safe!

Looks really really nice ....good job Chrome!Another thing is i don't live in a van, but my little dog have her own dogbed ,never in my bed or chairs and she is happy is her own bed she like it.Your bed is going to be clean almost always.
Where are you stashing your Pelican cooler these days? Isn't it amazing how creative one can be in a small place that doesn't need to be fancy or expensive or complicated? The interior is looking very cool, Chrome.
We used Velcro to secure expensive equipment to our counters in the case of a southern California earthquake. I recommend that for your stove. I saw couple of comments suggesting the room and also section feet. Play around with some options before drilling into your cabinetry.
You might look at putting the heater higher so Disco can't accidentally get into it

I have got some of your great ideas and followed them I have the chrome folding cup holders installed and I bought the magnetic mirror for shaving so far. Of course I bought my van after watching your videos.
Lookin good babe. Maybe put the extra bit on a hinge to your door for when youre outside? I use tinfoil on areas around my buddy when its on to help reflect heat. Would those sticky temp wall hooks hold the stove in place instead of putting holes?
Maybe you should have that adorable daughter help. You might not be glued or cut. Kids her age have it down to a science. Lol.....

And it is very interesting how you have stuck to your mantra of experiencing "Your House", literally.......before modifying it in a more permanent way, and allowing the living, in your own way, to lead you creatively to ideas such as that desk, that ingeniously sits on those drawers, before you....lol ☺ How practical and logical...and ya, weird.....how we never see what is right in front of us... like a cool redo of a shelf, all Chromee'd up and all desk like...lol. hey chrome if I may make a suggestion if you can I would just add a small piece of kitchen cabinet mat just to the end so it won't slide when you have it on the drawers you pick up a role for a dollar at dollar tree if you have them in Canada since you will have you laptop on there I use it for my desk and I used it on the truck when I was driving. Your place is looking awesome though.
You MUST cover that heater or it will be toast....it does not take much for them to fail once dust gets in them.
WD40 will take glue off your hands and anything else with out hurting anything
Love the energy of this video, it feels great to have a nice idea and see it work perfectly. I need a van now:-) I beleve I would put a swivel on the front passanger seat though, to swing it around when parked.
The thumb snapping is a British thing too lately . LOL ! I would be snapping a lot too if my van was going as good as yours .

If you want a nice clean look when you do your door panels you need to use clips under the material and through the panel you're gluing the material to then into the holes (screw holes? already there) in the door.

You should get one of those little mechanic chairs on wheels so you can sit in the van and roll around so that way if you want to cook you don't have to be hunched over or be on your knees they have them they're like little chairs with rollers on them and you can roll back and forth just something comfortable to sit on in case you want to cook
Don't forget to glue a piece of sheet metal to the board so the heat coming off the back of the wave 3 so it doesn't melt the laminate on the board, for extra safety.
How do you keep your cabinets from moving around?

Maybe you can mount that extra piece on the back door or next to your bed near the back as a little flip down table. Or you can make it into a little bed tray. With a hole for a cup.
You need a metal plate and a spacer between that heater and that dresser wood, looks like a fire waiting to happen! Be safe!

Screw some pieces to the edges of your board so when your drawers are open it wont slip off
