This is the best Hack I've seen for pull cord replacement EVER! The first broken cord I ever tried to replace years ago, when I tried to pull the spring assembly apart, it blew up in my face. Ever since then I've taken whatever motor to the dealer to fix, for $1 in parts and $100 in labor. Just got another used 4hp and the second time out the cord broke. The motor is on the beach about 100' down a bluff and not easy to schlep up to the house so I googled the repair and came across your video. I took a hunk of cord, a nail and a lighter down to the beach and had it fixed and pulling again in about 4 minutes. I was laughing all the way back up...
cool. I got the same motor last year. I was having problems with starter after I left it sitting all winter. Anyway, I had to replace pull cord after i broke it trying to start it. Now, I'm learning all about this damn motor. I guess that's a good thing when you off in the remote areas I bought it for. I had to recoil the spring, which I did by hand, and now its kind of stuck and won't recoil. I recently purchased that same cord you got from Amazon, and will try it again.
Can you do one on a jammed recoil . Sadly most videos I'm searching have the recoil horizontal an im working with a vertical one like you've got pictured. Anything helps.
@@DrkPhntom-og6xm yeah, i don't see how to post a pic here, you need a clip (called a lanyard key) that goes under the button. Keeps it pulled out so it can start and run. Supposed to attach lanyard to you in case you fall out 😀

Did you find anything?
Where can I get the gear that makes connection with the fly wheel on the pull cord mechanism. Also what year model is the first engine
What does your kill switch look like? I’m having a little issue with my johnson. My kill switch is stuck.
Do you have the switch key/clip with lanyard?
@@nutty-cool no I have the button at the end of the accelerator.
It probably calls for one but I bought it off a guy that didn’t really know about much of anything.

@@nutty-cool is there a specific name for it, or would any lanyard key work?
