Totally agree with this! As soon as I get to the airport I get to a kiosk and print a paper boarding pass. It’s come clutch when the airlines app went down or the bar code wouldn’t scan.

Good points. The liquid rules were made up out of whole cloth and have no basis in any threat. Overnight, TSA decided that 12 ounces of hand sanitizer is a-ok. It was too dangerous to contemplate before, but circulate a virus around and suddenly TSA isn't worried about liquid bombs anymore.
Tip for traveling with someone who has mobility issues. Prearranged transport to & from the airplanes. Ensure you are noted as the companion because you may actually get through security & customs faster. When my father was alive, we made sure he received a wheelchair & escort or with the “go carts” as soon as we got to the airport. Here's a pro tip for you, you can bring ice... Frozen water bottles or a cup full of ice is allowed, just empty or drink the excess water before going through. Also don't forget to remove them from your bag so they are visible before putting it through the xray...
I always bring a water bottle that is frozen as well as an empty reusable stainless steel insulated one I can use for cold or hot drinks. I also carry a frozen sponge to keep snacks like grapes cool.
Something as simple as a smile can go a long way. I thanked everyone from the check-in agent to the gate agent to the flight attendants. I said, "Hello" with a smile as I boarded the plane and every time I spoke to the flight attendants. I do not know if this attitude had anything to do with the second glass of champagne they "forgot" to charge me for, but who knows?
I was having allergy and asthma issues and packed my nebulizer in my carryon bag. Security had no idea what it was and considered it very suspicious. I explained it to them, but it wasn’t until I put in the tubes and showed them what it looks like when I cover my face with the mask or use the tubing that goes in the mouth.
It's almost like you knew I was flying tomorrow! Great tips. Also, I have those exact same skechers shoes and they are amazing for flying. If you get an Amex Platinum card, you get precheck and clear for free.
Ok, but can all airports have water bottle compatible fountains now? It's so depressing trying to fill a water bottle practically horizontal only to get it barely 1/4 full, then stand there crying next to the restroom.
I carry a water bottle and fill be for boarding and sometimes there are vendors or stores that sell bottle water. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and the water on board the aircraft are in tanks that are sanitized rarely. This water for drinks and making coffee or tea. Most airlines do not have bottled water on board. On my flights on Singapore Air going from LAX to SIN is several hours and with the dry air in the cabin I will drink 2 liters of water. So I have a 2 liter catalog back for water I fill be after TSA. It collapses. Drinking water with jetlag and alcohol is worst thing you can drink.
I saw a new Clear user at Miami International being welcomed and practically escorted one on one through the Clear process while I crawled along in the regular line. There was no Pre Check line for me that day. Think hey we’re short staffed.
Is there a list online somewhere about what is counted as "liquids"? I was so surprised when they counted in Mascara as liquids at Helsinki airport in Finland. Never ever anywhere else in the world. Thanks for a great channel. Maya, Sweden 🇸🇪
I'm travelling in April from India to Canada via Amsterdam. Soo many people told me that having a wait in America is a hassle cuz of TSA. These tips would help a lot.
If you pack a lunch use frozen water bottles as ice packs which are allowed. Just make sure to drink any thawed ice water before going through security.
I do that, too, as well as bring a sponge that I saturate in water, freeze, and put in a ziplock bag. It keeps fruit and cheese snacks cool and cools me off if I get hot.
I got the idea from the FIFO workers and brought a backpack with wheels, the best of both worlds. Invest in a belt with a non-metallic buckle , some are elastic and thin and are comfortable for wearing on long flights.
I just got the Eddie Bauer voyager 3.0 backpack duffel for airport travel, also has the pass through sleeve. A bit bigger than what a personal item is supposed to be though, closer to a standard article. When using the bag with a carry-on roller it’s technically too big to be a personal item. Hopefully I never have a problem!
I like to put any lose things in my sling or jacket and put them on the conveyer. Also, mexico doesn't let you carry any tools aboard the plane. They took away a small leatherman that didn't have a knife.
My buddy accidentally brought a 24oz bottle of head and shoulders shampoo through security and they said he could “either throw it away or use it right here” 😂
Can you guys start doing videos about travelling with infants and toddlers? Theres a big range of products and is honestly do stressful for most parents
If you plan to use TSA Pre-check…you might want to reference the websites of the airports you plan to use for the hours that service is available….it’s NOT 24 hours a day! Found this out the hard way….so be aware if you will be making an early A.M. departures!!
Agree. I went through a small airport and TSA Pre line was combined with regular line. I was a little miffed because I have TSA Pre, but nothing I can do. It was a short line so not a big deal.
Found out recently that a stack of books will trigger a search after scan of your luggage. I travel weekly and never had an issue. Needed to take some dead tree books with me on a recent business trip and packed them in my carry on case. The TSA officer said the scanner detected a large block of organic material, hence the search. Frustrating to say the least but then again the only time I have issues is at that airport. If you can, take your books on a digital device.
Most useful video ever. My cousin uses GladPress and Seal around her feet when she goes thru security. Then she takes it off and throws it away. Good point about 3-1-1 being about bottle size, not liquid. And a friend gets flagged when she uses a particular lotion, although she never learns LOL
Not airport but security! My wired bra went off on the scanner at the statue of liberty! I was 16, the staff member instantly knew what it would probably be and when she had to check she instantly went for my bra!! I haven't worn a wire bra while traveling since 😁
Thank youfor this. This was quite helpful. I bought the TSA expedited service for usa domestic travel - it hekos. I always bring plenty of anti bacterial surface wipes & hand wipes. I use a sturdy back pack for my carry on & slip on shpes.
I always bring a peak design camera clip on the backpack, it always flag, but if you keep the camera in the clip. It doesn't get flagged as TSA knows what it is.
CLEAR, while great, is only at a limited number of airports. It's a private company, and they need to have a high enough passenger throughput for setting up at a given airport to be worth it for them.
if you go sightseeing & purchase items on day before returning home, go thru your backpack. We bought t-shirts but I also found a special nutella in Canada that my mother likes. forgot about it until we went thru Canadian security. had to give it up. Hubby & I are both global entry - but Newark TREATS everyone has non-precheck/GE.
When wearing a big backpack, pleases be aware of how much space you take up. I’ve been knocked over by people swinging around with a huge backpack. Especially in tight spaces like trams between gates.

@@PackHacker Thanks so much! I'll check out the Flight Pack as well. In this video, while demonstrating how weigh you bag at home you are holding a nice bag. What is it and do you recomend it? Thanks in advance and i'm really enjoying your work!
Yes TSA has the 3-1-1 rule on anything that can pump, spray, pour or smear but Ice is a Solid Not a Liquid. You can fill your water container with ice or freeze any oversized item and bring it with you as long as it's frozen when you take it thru security.
For TSA pre-check because per much anybody can sign up for and become so popular it’s definitely not as quick as it used to be before I honestly think they should make another line for people that do have TSA pre-check but also give like a option for like a plus version or platinum or something like that for people that want to pay let’s say $100 extra year that absolutely don’t want to wait and the business people and very very frequent fliers I think that would at least make it feel like it’s worth it again to the people that initially TSA targeted business members and frequent frequent fliers
I have a half a gallon bag filled with granola and granola like bars for when I get hungry. Will I need to take them out and into a bin when screened? Do I need to remove my iPad from the case I have it in?
Those are good tips, just remember when you are talking about TSA, is officers not agents, this may seen as not a big deal but for TSA officers it is, believe me I'm a TSA officer. Besides that those were very good tips.
I wore a sweater with some metallic threads running through the yarn. This caused a full body, wand scan and disassembling of my entire carry on , in front of the entire 250 waiting passengers Big mistake.
When something maybe questionable as to what goes in 3 1 1 bag do a screen shot. I have a prescribed cream that dues not need to go into 3 11 cause it’s an RX
Some bonus tips: Specifically for the body scanner, pull up your pants because sagging pants sometimes earns you a pat down in an area of your body you may not want to be patted down. I mention this because when we take our belts off it’s natural for your pants to sag. Another body scanner one is make sure your pockets are completely empty, that money in your pocket or driver’s license will also likely earn you a pat down that includes your “private area”. Lastly for the body scanner, clothes with excessive zippers or more dense patterns on them will tend to get you patted down as well (like, bedazzled outfits) As for the X-ray, it’s not the oversized bottle per say, it’s that the officer isn’t going to weigh the contents so it will just get taken away. Another X-ray one is, when in doubt check it in or take it out and put it in a separate bin so the officer can see it or even if they take it for additional screening you can grab everything else and get your stuff together. X-ray items we sometimes forget or don’t think get attention but may are candles, a lot of coins (especially if they are a lot and look like they might be trying to hide something), human remains (ashes), tools, and your full or partially full water bottle (which is a very common thing we all know about but forget and still end up leaving it in your carry) Basic common sense tips, no self defense items at all, like pepper sprays, knives no matter how small (although depending on where you are a butter knife might get through, but I wouldn’t take one personally because why get held over for additional screening if you don’t have to). Keep in mind even if you are licensed to carry a firearm they are not allowed (only checked in and have to meet specific requirements). Holiday tip: Do not bring wrapped presents with you on the plane. Sure bring that present for that someone special but do not wrap it. After you get where you are going wrap it, because it’s getting unwrapped if the officer needs to check it…. Also, again, that holiday candle will likely get additional screening. Hope these tips help, have a great safe trip 😉
If you're going through the full body scanner, it's not a metal detector so anything concealed under clothing or in your pockets will trigger it, even paper. It also alarms on anything sparkly or reflective so watch out for bedazzled pant pockets and shiny logo shirts which lead to pat down of butts and chests etc.
If I were to pack a backpack like a suitcase to avoid baggage claim I would need a big one. Because this summer I'm going to Alaska and I need to pack my hunting boots and they take up as much space as my clothes would
What backpack is it at 6:36? I would highly appreciate if someone could tell me the brand and type. Thank you. Nice tips. Before Corona I used to travel on a regular basis for business reasons. When waiting in line for security check I emptied all pockets of my pants into the zip pocket of my jacket. I did so as well with watch, wallet, belt and so on. The jacket then was a bit bulky but after running throug the x-ray I just had to pick up my jacket, carry on luggage and shoes to move on. By that I could reorganize my pockets afterwords at a more relaxed place without missing something out.

I would add that if you're a diabetic there exceptions to food and drink amount limitations. Great video!
And also if you have a baby/toddler, or other medical conditions that require it.
Hey Mike! That's a great point. Thanks for sharing!

Get pre-check if you’re a frequent traveler… $85 for 5 years. Well worth the money.
Thanks for sharing your tip, Jeffrey!
- Austin
Yes. Agree ,,, Jeffery ! Worth every penny. 😊😍
Great refresher video of tips every traveler needs to know!
Something as simple as a smile can go a long way. I thanked everyone from the check-in agent to the gate agent to the flight attendants. I said, "Hello" with a smile as I boarded the plane and every time I spoke to the flight attendants. I do not know if this attitude had anything to do with the second glass of champagne they "forgot" to charge me for, but who knows?
pro tip with the body scanner thing, sweat will show up on the scan and sometimes they'll swab you for explosive residue if sweat sets off the scanner
I find baseball cap or hat is useful to hold my loose items such as keys, phone, watch etc. as going through XRays.
Hey Nigelito!
Great tip - thanks for sharing!

It's almost like you knew I was flying tomorrow! Great tips. Also, I have those exact same skechers shoes and they are amazing for flying. If you get an Amex Platinum card, you get precheck and clear for free.
Awesome about the Amex Platinum card! I just got mine about a month ago so that is good news! Thank you for mentioning that!
Ok, but can all airports have water bottle compatible fountains now? It's so depressing trying to fill a water bottle practically horizontal only to get it barely 1/4 full, then stand there crying next to the restroom.
That's why I love my bottle that has an extra opening halfway, can be filled under pretty much any tap!
More and more airports are installing them, so it's likely only a matter of time.
Drinking water with jetlag and alcohol is worst thing you can drink.
if you can pump it, pour it, spray it, spread it = 3-1-1 rule
I saved 45 mins at MCO using a free Clear trial they were doing at security. I can't tell you how happy I was cutting the entire line.
I saw a new Clear user at Miami International being welcomed and practically escorted one on one through the Clear process while I crawled along in the regular line. There was no Pre Check line for me that day. Think hey we’re short staffed.
Love it when you feature images of Portugal ! Gotta check that belt. Thank you guys 😉
Is there a list online somewhere about what is counted as "liquids"? I was so surprised when they counted in Mascara as liquids at Helsinki airport in Finland. Never ever anywhere else in the world. Thanks for a great channel. Maya, Sweden 🇸🇪
on the TSA website
As a TSA officer, I’d say if you have a question about it, take it out and put it in a bin so they can see it.
As a general rule, if you can spray it, pour it, or spread it, it counts as a "liquid".
That's a great thumbnail man! And thank you so much for the tips!!
Glad you liked it Kai! Thank you for watching.😎
Would love to see the guides you mentioned updated. There items that have been discontinued or not always available
Having seen how the baggage handles throw bags...not sure I'd go with a soft sided bag.
Late night flights are better for getting through TSA but a higher likelihood of a cancellation. Lines are shorter in the evening
I'm travelling in April from India to Canada via Amsterdam. Soo many people told me that having a wait in America is a hassle cuz of TSA. These tips would help a lot.
Have a safe trip Ishika!

You guys are simply THE BEST!! Thanks.
Our pleasure! Thanks for your support, Greg!

Wow Ill now take up all these tips for my next trip.
Thumbs up for the lighting and setup on the new HQ! 🚀
Tom: Peanut Butter Counts As A Liquid
Me: Hmm The More I Know
Same with applesauce, pudding, hummus, and a bunch of other things.
This is such a practical video. Thanks for this type of info.
Thanks for sharing! 😃

I like to put any lose things in my sling or jacket and put them on the conveyer. Also, mexico doesn't let you carry any tools aboard the plane. They took away a small leatherman that didn't have a knife.
I like to bring a large bag of Trail Mix, after getting screened twice, I now take the bag out for visual screening.
My buddy accidentally brought a 24oz bottle of head and shoulders shampoo through security and they said he could “either throw it away or use it right here” 😂
😂🤣
I just found your channel and it’s AWESOME!
Glad you enjoy it!

Can you guys start doing videos about travelling with infants and toddlers? Theres a big range of products and is honestly do stressful for most parents
Thank you. Very concise, easy to follow, helpful.
If you plan to use TSA Pre-check…you might want to reference the websites of the airports you plan to use for the hours that service is available….it’s NOT 24 hours a day! Found this out the hard way….so be aware if you will be making an early A.M. departures!!
Or smaller airports that combine Pre-Check lines with the regular security line.
Agree. I went through a small airport and TSA Pre line was combined with regular line. I was a little miffed because I have TSA Pre, but nothing I can do. It was a short line so not a big deal.
Camera lenses show up opaque/black on scanners, usually direct to secondary for me.
Sent this to my daughter’s VenturingBSA crew leader! 🤞🏼that their trip to Scotland 🏴 this summer goes off!
Scotland is awesome-they will have a great time! Thanks for the support!

@@PackHacker TY! 2020 trip was lost to Covid, so this year we’re hoping for the best.
I really miss travelling during the pre-COVID times...
Pre 911
@@LuxLife24 Ah, the good old days - I was just old enough to remember it.
Great tips!! I can't wait to travel international!
Most useful video ever. My cousin uses GladPress and Seal around her feet when she goes thru security. Then she takes it off and throws it away. Good point about 3-1-1 being about bottle size, not liquid. And a friend gets flagged when she uses a particular lotion, although she never learns LOL
I didn't think it was possible but Tom is somehow even better looking than the last video 😍😍
That thumbnaaaail 🔥🔥🔥🔥
My water tip is. Make sure it frozen in the bottle. Tell security you have it and enjoy after you pass security.
Right, I've done that for years and never had a problem.
6:50 lol.. My mind froze a little by that question and answer.
Gald it was helpful!

Thank you for this vlog.
Thanks for the support, Lawrence!

@@PackHacker you’re welcome. You have an amazing Friday !
thanks for the video, informative
Why are those things important? the answer is yes!
I always bring a peak design camera clip on the backpack, it always flag, but if you keep the camera in the clip. It doesn't get flagged as TSA knows what it is.
Great tip!
- Austin
CLEAR, while great, is only at a limited number of airports. It's a private company, and they need to have a high enough passenger throughput for setting up at a given airport to be worth it for them.
Correct abc !! Clear program NOT at every airport. No thank u. !!!💩🤐😑
Thank you very much for the tips. Also, can you please do a video on travel friendly tripods?
Soft sided roller carry on and a personal backpack 👌👍
I've gotten flagged for sweaters/shirts with that metallic thread woven through the material before
if you go sightseeing & purchase items on day before returning home, go thru your backpack. We bought t-shirts but I also found a special nutella in Canada that my mother likes. forgot about it until we went thru Canadian security. had to give it up. Hubby & I are both global entry - but Newark TREATS everyone has non-precheck/GE.
Not the Nutella! 😔 Thanks for the tip, Jane!
-Eric
Can personal flatware/utensils be with you on flight?
7:08 The next level of travel-professionalism to reach is to have a suitcase in the same color as your shirt ;D
When wearing a big backpack, pleases be aware of how much space you take up. I’ve been knocked over by people swinging around with a huge backpack. Especially in tight spaces like trams between gates.
Good point, Brenda!

TSA CARE'S if you need it recommend it
For my meds i use a mattres cover bag its plastic
Me watching this even though my main airports are the London ones lol
I love my Arcade belts!
Thanks for the info! I am trying to find a good bag to take for my personal item. I was looking at the Aer travel pack 2 but it seems too big for that purpose. Would you recommend the Aer travel pack 2 small or something else for that purpose?
The Aer Travel Pack 2 small is a nice option. Aer also makes a Flight Pack that might be worth checking out. Check it out here: packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/flight-pack/
- Austin
@@PackHacker Thanks so much! I'll check out the Flight Pack as well. I think maybe the Travel Pack 2 Small has more capacity for me using it as a single bag on budget airlines like Frontier and such as a personal item that can hold a week or two worth of travel things. Thanks for all of your wonderful content!

They call that clear..
Yes it’s not that great but it will suffice
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm gonna have to fill my backpack with Oobleck to confuse TSA agents
😂😂😂
Nice timing, I'm heading off in 30 mins to the red sea for some scuba diving ^^. Cool video 👌. Cheers
Hello i was wondering does the 311 bag have to be 1 quart can it be smaller like a snack size zip lock dont have much liquids
Hey Dencil!
Thank you for the insight!

Note that if you buy a frozen bottle of water it is a solid, not a liquid.
Medically necessary items follow a different set of rules from normal liquids.
Some bonus tips:
Specifically for the body scanner, pull up your pants because sagging pants sometimes earns you a pat down in an area of your body you may not want to be patted down. I mention this because when we take our belts off it’s natural for your pants to sag.
Another body scanner one is make sure your pockets are completely empty, that money in your pocket or driver’s license will also likely earn you a pat down that includes your “private area”.
Lastly for the body scanner, clothes with excessive zippers or more dense patterns on them will tend to get you patted down as well (like, bedazzled outfits)
As for the X-ray, it’s not the oversized bottle per say, it’s that the officer isn’t going to weigh the contents so it will just get taken away.
Another X-ray one is, when in doubt check it in or take it out and put it in a separate bin so the officer can see it or even if they take it for additional screening you can grab everything else and get your stuff together.
X-ray items we sometimes forget or don’t think get attention but may are candles, a lot of coins (especially if they are a lot and look like they might be trying to hide something), human remains (ashes), tools, and your full or partially full water bottle (which is a very common thing we all know about but forget and still end up leaving it in your carry)
Basic common sense tips, no self defense items at all, like pepper sprays, knives no matter how small (although depending on where you are a butter knife might get through, but I wouldn’t take one personally because why get held over for additional screening if you don’t have to).
Thanks for sharing your tips, Sal! Safe travels to you as well!
- Austin
@@PackHacker You’re welcome, appreciate your video and thought it was great. Thank you!
And don’t wear pants with dozens of zippered pockets
Great advice, Amna! Thanks!

nice!
are keysmarts ever confiscated by the tsa or are they permitted to be carried by the person owning one?
that train 7:55 is in Australia
If I were to pack a backpack like a suitcase to avoid baggage claim I would need a big one. Because this summer I'm going to Alaska and I need to pack my hunting boots and they take up as much space as my clothes would
Please mention "any" rules about moneybelts. Nobody mentions moneybelts.
