- Every RX8 owner knows how important it is to warm your car up before driving. This is pretty much an average morning for me warming up my rotary before taking it to school. Merry Christmas!

**This video is for entertainment purposes only. This is not actually what I do to warm up my rx8. I let it idle for a couple minutes until idle level evens out, then I short shift until it is warmed up.

REV Media that’s a little overkill, I personally just use a hair dryer for 10 seconds and mine still runs fine. Some days I get lazy and just put hot pop tarts on the engine for a minute or 2 while I get ready for kindergarten.

Im new to your channel and I watched some random videos of it (I really like them), but I'd like to ask for your opinion: would you advice me buying one RX-8 with around 90.000km (around 56.000 miles). If so, where should I pay more attention when buying?

Merry Christmas! No need to wait over a minute though. Driving up to 3k rpms and shifting smoothly help to warm up all the mechanical components (gearbox, differential, engine) and their fluids by keeping the pressure up while idling keeps low pressure. My 5 cents but the experts in those topics suggest this as much better than what I see as your practice.
I wait until the engine reaches operating temp, 82c for us Canadians, then I keep it under 3-4 k for a few lights before letting it go. From what I understand, until the engine is warm, the seals do not get the best lubrication. Letting them warm up and settle into position as well as getting some oil in the combustion chamber before driving only seems like a logical way to ensure 100% that you have done all you can to care for your car. Even when I drove piston engines, my practice was the same. Start car, go inside, brush teeth, smile. Go. The engine automatically increases the rev's during warmup to be optimal, why ruin all that engineering by driving it during warmup?
A minute or two idling is ok but no more than this imho. There are many other mech components need to be warmed up to function properly (read my 1st comment) and that cannot be done with a stationary car. So, if we need to be careful and patient for the other components, why to wait for the engine since we are forced to be easy on acceleration and gear changes eitherway until all the componets are in optimal tems?

Do you always need to warm them up or is it just in cold states? I live in texas where winters get as low as 40 F and summers get as hot as 115 F?

Wish I could let my Rx8 warm up at my house but my neighbors don’t like the fact it has a 3” straight pipe while bridgeported😂 can only drive on occasion so they don’t call the cops.
I DO THE SAME EXACT THING, I NEUTRAL MY CAR OUT AND I LET IT WARM UP 😂
I realize this was done in humor, but it seems like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill...seems like you could open the door, start the '8, back it up out of the garage, then close the door: problem solved...or...park you '8 outside of the garage where the blue MINI is and problem solved...then as far as it warming up, start driving it within a few minutes keeping rprms low and you're golden, just like air-cooled 911/Beetle days. Some cars take passion to own and the RX-8 is one of them, of course so is that EOS, that MINI and even the Carrera sitting on the lift. Enjoy what you have and learn to make compromises. Cheers.

My girl is laughing because she said you are making people have a bad view of 8's and she loves her 8 and her 7 and yes warmup is longer than most but don't make it seem like an hour. If you don't like your 8 maybe we will buy it off you if it's not automatic

Bro I love my RX8, its a great car, and I am not bringing more negative vibes to it. A lot of people commented on my "What its like to daily drive a mazda rx8" video on how I skipped "warming it up". This is simply a JOKE reply for those comments with a funny Christmas vibe. I don't do ANY of this stuff shown in the video.
