RX-8 vs GR86 and FRS Track Battle

- POV track battle between a Mazda RX-8 (SCCA Tuner 4) versus a new GR86 (driven by an instructor) and a Scion FRS (also prepped for Tuner 4) on a damp and very slippery Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point Motorsports Park.
I don't have any details on the GR86, but the Scion FRS is a typical tuner / track build, on wide Falken RT660s. I was running my "wet" set-up, which are my all-season street tires. I gambled on the weather, which called for rain all day. Unfortunately the rain stopped and a dry line started to form, making it tough to keep up with folks on competition rubber.
UPDATE: Here's a chase video of both of us from Dan Lee!

Good driving from both you and Carlos. You could tell where it was dryer and his RT660's had the advantage and he was able to pull away and you could tell where is was more wet and you were able to close in.
Yes, I gambled on lower overall grip potential but more consistency with my rain tires. I was happy with the choice until it started to dry!
Love videos like these 👍🏼👍🏼
More coming shortly! Stay tuned
@@rx8matt right on!
Carlos driving through puddles and mud to distract you! He did it to me, too! LOL
Trying to throw off our concentration, thinking "is he going off!?"
@mchuffman That wasn't mud, it was actually poop, because it came out when I thought I was going off, but had to commit to the gas pedal lol
Good driving man! I’m going to be doing some HPDEs next year so I’ll see you out there!
Sounds good man!
Quick hands day.... LoL
Yes, very slow hands while in control, very fast hands to catch slides
woohoo! finally back on the big track
Yep, got plenty of more spicy videos I'm still working on. Stay tuned!
Man that transition from snoopy head seemed particularly nasty in the rain.
Yeah it must be super polished because it's slide city through there
And that damn bump, my car I have to shift right at that transition and its not too pleasant, can imagine in the rain its much worse.
@@keithgerhard454 yep, luckily I can hold 3rd gear!
man all that dang water! not optimum conditions. good driving tho! Im an RX owner so i know the struggle of the straight aways
That circuit becomes like ice in places, especially where it's polished smooth or patched
@@rx8matt yea looks so sketch!!
@@lpvgs-817 it's like trying to disarm a bomb as fast as possible, but if you make a mistake it blows up...
Do you have a greddy oil pan ?
No, OEM. never had oil pressure issues at any circuit or with any type of tire
Thanks for your response ! And do you have an oil catch can ?
Mine as an issue on some hard turns oil goes through intake... Don't know if I buy an oil pan or catch can
@@anthony_benier no, I don't have that issue. I keep oil at or below full mark
