That intro by Dionne Warwick was just full of love 💕
She did that with her impeccable phrasing!!
...made me cry to hear her. So beautiful!!
I legit cried
Even with out her raw power, her tone was still amazing. She still has what made her so unique.
@@luiegarcia6396 me too!
I love Dionne's effortless choices in her phrasings. It's like she is telling us a story. A story full of life and love.
Well said!
she just lazy
For real😭😭😭. She’s 82 and still killing it😁
that's whats friends are for dionne love Song thanck you
The grand old ladies steal the show! Love it
Gladys is STILL singing people completely under the table.
I agree.... she along with Dionne and Patti are legendary and rightfully deserving but Gladys has always been my favorite
The clarity and quality of her voice is still incredible
Yes hands down
You better say that again!
@@krissysprayers2537 I agree, idk their techniques are so different from the old generations (Gladys, Dionne) the old generations have developed chest voices
Okay so when are Sam Smith and Cynthia Erivo doing a collab??????????????????? That harmony is perfection.
the way he can keep going up from her is unreal
@@alexanderendo8758 sam goes by they/them btw
@@laylamcnally6376 oh my god? Who cares shut up with that absoulute bs you are part of the problem
They weren’t harmonizing… they were singing in unison
Oooomg!!! Because I’m still waiting
Where is the love for Kenny G?! Awesome to see him doing his thing still so many years later! True icon!
Right! Had the chance 2 go to a concert last Thanksgiving when he came 2 North Carolina!! 15, 000 SOLD OUT!! He's my favorite sax player!!
I know! This version is kind of stuff, except his part.
I like the version with Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross better, besides the original. Kenny G was awesome as always.
Yep, that was the first thought i had as well... How could the uploader miss that??
Right! OG
Two of our finest - Dionne and Gladys. We must treasure their legacy as iconic voices. We have lost Aretha.
Include Cissy Houston.
Two National Treasures
Ms. Chaka and Ms. Patti as well! We're so lucky to still have these women and their voices with us
Lady Dionne, sitting in a chair and throwing that voice of hers like she is not making any effort is crazy!
Yes. Pure legendary diva move
@@1975stereo Ikr?! She was top!
Especially after all those cigarettes! It’s amazing, really.
Although Dionne is singing falsetto!
Is she still living in Brazil? She used to live in Rio de Janeiro, where she moved to 1994 and wanted to later move to Salvador da Bahia, but by now I don't know where she lives anymore. She's turning 81 this year. This woman's a treasure!
This is glorious. How I’m only finding it now, two years later, is beyond comprehension 😅 Loving that Kenny G sax!
Sweets!!! I'm just finding it, NOW!!! Fantabulous"!!!
Just found it now! Magic!!
Good to see the greats Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight still have that special touch
Absolutely 💯!!!!!
Yes mam
😂
Indeed.
Me too....
nobody ain't talking about how timeless gladys knight voice is like damn it hasn't changed 1 bit
She's the rest deal you should read her book
Gladys knight, still a power house. Her voice still sounds the same even 50 plus years later.👌🏾👌🏾😊
a queen
Her and Dionne!
Yep
Great talents never die young indeed...
Always a fave! Gladys is a class act
LYRICS:
And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe, I love you
And if I should ever go away
Well, then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
Well, you came in loving me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way
I thank you
Oh and then for the times when we're apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
The words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember
Keep smiling and keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends…
ARE FOR
FOR GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES
I'LL BE ON YOUR SIDE FOREVERMORE
THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.......
Dionne has been singing for decades and still has that undisputed smooth jazz tone that only she possessed in her time
What a great singer Cynthia is and Sam complements her beautifully 2 great singers ♥
Can always find gems randomly searching Cynthia Erivo's name.
probably one of the most correct statements i’ve heard in a while
#facts
Yeah!!! 🤙🏻
No seriously!
I really like her rendition of Say a little prayer
Gladys Knight is still so incredible after all the years, I can’t take it any more …
Gladys knights voice unchanged through the years a true legend deserves more recognition

I'm literally crying seeing Cynthia and Sam singing together is like a dream come true 😭😍😍
There voices are beautiful together
OK GLADYS!!! Vocal game STILL strong and beautiful!!! Dionne singing so effortlessly beautiful! This is a beautiful rendition of this song and Kenny G?! Yessssss!!!!
Okay now Miss Gladys hittin' them belt notes and high notes 35 years after this song came out. She bettah!!!
Indeed! That rich voice is incomparable. Each time I hear and see her sing I just marvel at the sound coming from her.
And she didn't use her full range here like in the original version, but you can tell she can do it...she's still 1 of the best performers out there singing LIVE!
The song released 1975
@@shingstv6978 1985!
Great to see Ms. Dionne and Ms. Gladys featured on this remake of their 1985 run away hit. Both are world treasures. Kenny G is a seasoned master who deserves recognition as well. Cynthia and Sam are angelic and oh so gifted. Well done!
At first I thought “Ooh, is Dionne going to make it?” Well she more than made it and her voice was pure magic!
so true.
Cynthia and Sam, London are well proud of you singing with those greats 🌟🌟🌟
It's amazing how Gladys retained the power in her voice at her age now! Dionne's voice is soothing to the ear...so beautiful. 😍
Dam Gladys still the Queen
WOW, Gladys Knight still sings those notes as if time has not changed, absolutely AMAZİNG
This song applies to all generations and all the time. Amazing
Now you are someone that understands great music never fades it just gets understood with time
It's so sad that Whiney is no longer with us. I miss her😭
Gone to soon for sure. Fortunately the original artists are still with us..
im missing Whitney so much 😭
For good times and bad times
That's what cocaine is for
Me too
And Natalie Cole.
Dionne Warwick is the only one who can do that kind of an Intro. Superb 👏👏👏👏
It's honestly so beautiful to see so many generations of singers performing together so perfectly
True
I wish my best friend was still around. He passed on in the midst of COVID -19 in July 2020
It’s not been the same without him. 😭. He was à indeed . I miss every moment we spent together
Gladys Knight's voice stands the test of time
Controversial statement: Gladys Knight is the greatest female singer of all time. She’s still singing all of her hits in the ORIGINAL KEY. This is a woman in her mid-late 70s singing this song exactly the same way she sang it when she was in her early 40s. She’s been singing for a half century with little to no vocal decline. How many singers of her caliber can you say that about? There may have been more powerful voices (arguably), but she is in a class of her own.
Agreed absolutely 100%, GK is a legend x
It's nice to see and hear legendary Dionne Warwick, still in awe. God bless you all.
I love Ms. Dionne!!!!
Cynthia’s voice is one of a kind 😍 I’m in awe of the clarity
I like how Auntie Dionne transposed the song so she could sing it, it was a nice sound, she did it well.
I think she murdered her own Sing
@@channelglenn Me too!
@@channelglenn come on! Try and sing it at her age!
@@ralphanthonymallillin2712 Especially after singing the way she sang for 50+ years.
@@deshaunx776 can't believe there are some rude people like this. And if they will switch to an argument why Gladys knight still has her voice. Gladys is not a cigaretter smoker, and her voice is naturally thick and powerful compared to dionne.
I absolutely love Dionne's intro. Makes you feel so warm and fuzzy inside 💕
I mean this is insane, why has this not got BILLIONS of views I’m confused x
Because everyone's busy adding views on Billie Eilish 🤭
Well cos so many people don't appreciate good things until they miss it .
It hasn't been promoted. This should be on radio and released to the Billboard Hot 100.
....they are tone deaf ..so forgot to like 😎
Exactly!!! This is epic!
Two current stars and three legends. Auntie Gladys and Auntie Dionne were unsurprisingly brilliant. Kenny G can still play the hell out that sax and Cynthia Erivo and Sam Smith held up there. I don't know how anyone thumbs downed this.
Hands down to Gladys she still got it damn .... beautiful
Dionne Warwick is totally underrated ~ her voice have something so special in it. Even in this age, still there
An elegant and soothing voice ❤
This song made me cry my eyes out at 8am 🥵😭
Me too
Yes!
Same!!
Ditto 🥲🥲🥲
This almost had me 😭 so close
Gladzs sounds the same like 40 yrs ago..amazing woman!!!!!
Glad to see someone give Natalie cole some recognition what a legend
Natalie deserved more recognition. She's one of the best worlf ever had
Yes Natalie wasn’t nothing to play with 🥰🥰🙌🏾🙌🏾
It's SO sad the poor tribute they did at the GRAMMYS right after she died...a woman that changed direction for the advancement of the music industry while risking her career should have been more embraced...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb a true shero
Great voices singing together always gives me chills. Seeing Gladys made me cry. Thank y'all for the beautiful song, & music. Makes our day brighter. 🌟
Ms. Dionne, Ms. Iconic legendary Dionne did that intro with that impeccable phrasing that's always forever awesome and one of a kind! You are Awesome!! Then comes your legendary friend Ms. Gladys bringing it on with you and allowing the other younger two singers two sing with yall!! Simply beautiful!!! Btw, kenny did that Sax!!
Cynthia and Sam must be very lucky to have sing this song with the legends. ❤️ Queen Gladys and Queen Dionne! With Mr. Kenny G!
My lord! The new GENERATION honros the Legendary Older Generation, is simply amazing! Wonderful Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight and the powerful Dionne Warwick!
Sam's voice is too heavenly 🤩
They forgot to put Kenny Gs name in titles
If someone doesn’t know who Kenny is they shouldn’t been on here 🤗
It's at the end...
No one can do the bridge like Gladys
Gladys remains a powerhouse! Dang this lady!❤
One of my all time favorites
@@gregbryant516 She's one of my favorite divas as well along with Ms. Dionne Warwick and Patti Labelle.
Gladys Knight is still looking flawless and has that great voice. She puts other vets to shame

"To all the Friends, we Met, Love and Lost".
I've seen Dionne Warwick Gladys Knight in concerts more than once. They are absolute timeless pros. Icons of my generation!! I can't tell you how much I adore Gladys knight!! Yes, she can belt it still. Dionne it's so wonderful to see in hear her classy touches. Kenny G. is fabulous. I love to see aging stars in the music business. It's so good to see people from my times still up there. ALSO Cynthia Erivo is the most amazing person to listen to what to watch. Her voice is so beautiful and warm and her sense of fashion is so lovely to see. What a beautiful person. I actually don't know much about Sam Smith but what a great voice.
Young people can learn from both of them the cream always comes to the top
Gladys has been richly blessed, her gift still shines!!!
Don't play with Gladys knight. She is the vocal GOAT! A beautiful performance from all.
Gladys sounds great.
She has never been a joke atl original

The way Sam sings is so peaceful 🥺 obsessed w them
How is this only showing up in my suggestions now? Rude...
Wow....just wow.. 🥺 this brings back so many memories! Dionne, Ma’am... you are an absolute legend. Hearing you sing this, after hearing you sing this song so many times as a teen in the 80’s, I am just sobbing here....wow... 😢. Gladys, your voice is as rich and powerful as ever! Incredible. Mr G, my all time instrumental hero. Salute to you all for this amazing piece of work....added to favorites
My soul needed this today. Been quarantined since March 16th. Miss my family soooooo much. So thank you for sharing. Peace.🌷
This song was released as an AIDS charity song, at a time when the true allies of the gay community stood up for them and voiced their support, hence the song title "That's What Friends Are For". (gives the lyrics special meaning.) You can read about the song and how it helped AIDS research on Wikipedia. The question I have is : Why the hell is Ronald Reagan's picture in this montage??? That bastard, during the time this song was released in 1986, was President, and did not do a DAMN thing to help those suffering from AIDS. It took him YEARS before he even uttered the word. It took the true heroes such as Dionne Warwick and Elton John to help raise funds and bring awareness, while Reagan was homophobic and ignored those that were dying. The blood is on his hands. He should be removed from this montage, since he was no friend to the gay community.

Love to see Kenny g with his touch !! Shout out to the other musicians as well . Love the greats Dionne and Gladys . Everyone was great
Great rendition! Would've been a whole lot better without Sam Smith.. Just saying..
Some of this picture inclusions didn't make sense. But the music was great.Dionne always comes with it.. Loved seeing Gladys as well. She made sure everybody know she was still around.
U are so right ab the pics lol
loved this update/reboot especially the epically gifted Cynthia Enrivo. Just didn't understand the Reagans and Fords turning up . Fill me in please.
Sam's voice is just velvety & soothing. 👍🏼 Gladys & Dionne are always legendary.
Oh that was just lovely. Good to see D and Glad. Haven't seen Kenny for time. They all look so good. Hmmm....good times!
This was MAGICAL! I love Sam Smith! I'm glad to see he's doing better now. I know it was hard for him for a while! And Dionne has the same singing style that Whitney had... where they "talk" the lyrics in "on-pitch" tone. Super cool! ❤️
Sam is awesome. But just so you know they are non binary. Sam does not subscribe to one gender. Please respect that and use they/them pronouns and not him, as that denotes masculinity and Sam does not want to be referred to as that either.
Matty Morissette Hi Matty. I appreciate your willingness to look out for other people. I can see that you have a protective heart and the world needs more of that. I must say, however, that I do not subscribe to the ideology of more than one gender. There is male and there is female. I don’t like people policing my language. I believe we all should have the freedom to speak our mind and to live the life we choose to. Likewise, I have the same right. Sam has the right to live however he wants and identify however he wants. I don’t care that he wants to call himself a “they/them.” That is his prerogative. However, I am not going to be forced to subscribe to an ideology that I find delusional and offensive. I think we should all acknowledge that Same has expressed confusion about what male and female is and I don’t see the justice in forcing the entire population to be dictated into using the pronouns someone decides on randomly, especially since it is grammatically incorrect and isn’t even consistent with what his views are. Sam doesn’t feel like he’s “not” a male. He is aware that he is a male but likes to wear high heels. Gay men can wear any clothes they want. That doesn’t make them gender fluid. That makes them free. Sam has even admitted that he may change his mind and embrace being totally male again down the road. It’s not fair to insist and force all of society to change their language and grammar just because someone wakes up and decides to and then goes back and forth. It’s chaos. Btw, this doesn’t apply to trans people that have taken steps to present as the gender they express. And yes, I would feel differently if Sam Smith presented as more androgynous or female. But because he presents as exclusively male, “he” is the pronoun I will always use for him simply for the interest of clarity and practicality. My mind is fueled by logic, reason, and sensibility so unless you can present a factual stance other than “he wants me to call him “they”, I will still call him by his actual gender or at the very least, his gender expression. I have this stance to protect the integrity of trans people that fight tooth and nail to present as the gender they want to be referred to as.
@@GilbertGTV trans people also don’t owe you their looks. No one owes you shit. If Sam wakes up tomorrow and would like the referred to as he I will respect that, just as I respect they don’t subscribe to one gender.
@@GilbertGTV lol ok now it makes sense. You’re a “Christian” so you automatically hate what you don’t understand.
@@GilbertGTV and you’re honestly transphobic. It’s gross. Don’t even try gaslighting with oh you seem nice but...hell no. People like YOU who think it’s up to you to tell another person who they are are a huge problem in this world.
behind each of these celebrities is the love for humanity, therefore the love for friends, music ...💞👏👏👏👏👌🌟🌟🌟

I’m loving every bit of this song right here today
Replaying to see Whitney again, and listen to Dionne, all of them are great.
Not impressed by Cynthia Erivo. Everyone else sounds good.
Wow.. Kenny G.. Make me goosebumps hearing his sax play
Damn that just went down like a fine glass of wine! Dionne (mom's favorite) I love you. That was a sweet redo. Saxxy, sexy and soulful serenading.
Gladys Knights voice will always be the same through the years
When Gladys Knight sings, others just step aside and let her do her brilliance.
I have to say that I loved Sam Smith, have to give all my respect to the legendary Gladys Knight, will look more into Cynthia Erivo’s music, but... and this is A BIG BUT!!!! Aunty Dionne’s part was the best and sweetest...
I'm such a big fan of Cynthia, you really won't regret looking into her music! I highly recommend Stand Up (from Harriet), Somewhere from West Side Story, And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls and OF COURSE I'm Here from the Color Purple... my personal favourite version is from the 2017 maker's conference :)
Ever memorable
