I felt like that after Idina Menzel did Frozen. I had been such a huge fan for so many years, but if you didn't watch Broadway, you really didn't know who she was. It's really nice to see these amazing Broadway talons, getting there overdue accolades!!!
I just watched "Wicked" yesterday, and I already want to rewatch it. Cynthia was perfect casting for Elphaba, and even though she's in her late 30s playing the college aged Elphaba, she really captures her awkwardness perfectly.
She's an Oscar away from getting the EGOT status. If she wins for Wicked next year, she could be the youngest EGOT winner to achieve the status and the fastest to achieve all four awards. Previous record is hold by Robert Lopez (age 39 when he achieved the status and earned all 4 awards in 10 years). Cynthia is inches away for beating Lopez at the EGOT record
@@Saranjanas2126Cynthia will be 38 years old and achieve the EGOT status in 9 years, so she's very close to beating Lopez's record. If she doesn't, if she wins for Part Two, then she ties with Lopez
Also, Halle Berry is the first and only Black Woman in history to win the Oscar for best (Leading) Actress AND THATS 22 YEARS AGO!! Cynthia could finally join her. Plus I just can't see Anora or Emilia Perez, The Substance taking it. Don't know about Angelina, Saoirse, Fernanda or other movies but Cynthia seemed to give an absolutely Wicked performance.
I'm so so happy that the Wicked buzz is finally giving Cynthia the attention she deserves, her singing skills are just beyond, and her music career is amazing too, I can't wait for her next album. Seeing her shine alongeside Ariana was truly a blast, I got so emotional. I've been a big fan of hers for the last three years, and to see the world finally pay her some earned respect and admiration, it fills my heart.
I LOVE CYNTHIA'S VOICE!!! She is already an icon and inspiration for black girls everywhere. My favourite song of her's is Stand Up and I can't wait to watch Wicked!
She’s getting to that Audra McDonald status… it’s on the horizon for her. They are each their own person as we all are but I do find myself thinking of her in the way I think of Audra… genre bending, playing iconic characters and playing real icons, earning legendary awards, bringing grace and beauty from theater to film to the small screen, holding respect from every corner of showbiz and just being awesome women.
I liked Erivo in “Harriet” so much. I watched that movie twice. Erivo’s performance was so darn good; she embodied Harriet’s determination, faith in God, and bravery so brilliantly. Such an underrated film. I liked Erivo in “Chais Walking” as well.
Ever since i left the theater yesterday after seeing the Wicked movie I’ve been trying to figure out why the movie hit me in my heart like it did. I’ve seen it on stage so it wasn’t a new story for me. Today I realized it was because of Cynthia. The emotion in her performance is amazing. Ariana was great too, but Cynthia spoke to my soul 💚
Music is about music, make it count, make it your own but make it as good as you can… the rest is ego… she’s not concerned with that… we feel things in sound and time… that’s what musicians are concerned with, that’s what she’s concerned with.
Our Cynthia is blooming marvellous. Been raving about her since seeing her in Sister Act in 2012. She’s also great as Aretha Franklin in Genius mini series ❤
I was so hoping for her performance in "Bad Times at the El Royale" to at least be an honorable mention! I didn't know her at the time but I knew from that movie alone how fantastic she would be in Wicked 💚
I first saw her on Terrell's blue wall about 5 years ago....and then realised I'd seen her in Bad Times & Widows. This was just before Harriet came out - so sad that there was controversy over her doing the role instead of an American. Unlike my niece, I saw Wicked for Erivo, not Grande-Butera.

Cynthia Erivo's performance of "I'm Here" at the Tonys is the precise reason she should've been Celie in "The Color Purple" movie musical instead of Fantasia!
@@scottsummers4234 Yeah. You know what I wish? I wish that the musical remakes of "West Side Story" and "The Color Purple" switched years. That way Cynthia Erivo could do both "The Color Purple" and "Wicked". I think Steven Spielberg should've directed "The Color Purple" movie musical since he did a great job with both the 1985 film and the "West Side Story" remake. I think it should've had more songs from the stage version like "Too Beautiful for Words" and 'African Homeland", make the storytelling and production be better and also have Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avery. Then it would've been a Best Picture winning movie musical masterpiece! As far as the "Wicked" movie, I haven't seen it yet, I heard the soundtrack though and clearly Cynthia Erivo did a great job, but to be honest, I'm still a little disappointed that Idina Menzel didn't get to reprise as Elphaba, I know she's too old now, but still there's a side of me that makes me wish they could've deaged her with makeup and visual effects. And I'm still not sure if splitting "Wicked" into two movies was a good idea. But I"ll have to wait and see about that. If I change my mind I'll let everyone know.
filming Wickd took forever, and was interrupted by the writer's strike. Should have opened last year, so they've all had to wait to do the press tour. It's the biggest role of her life in one of the biggest movies of the year. A huge amount is riding on her performance, and she is unused to being the centre of so much attention. She's a black queer woman, so she certainly knows what it is to get offensive comments on social media. Now she is suddenly becoming much more famous and she's feeling the pressure. She misunderstood the intent of the fan art, she felt her face was being hidden and her lips exaggerated; she overreacted and she said some really cringe and dumb things - and then she realised she'd screwed up, and she apologised. Let's hope she learned a lesson, and won't do it again. And let's not forget that at a time that the world is a bit dark, she is bringing pleasure to literally millions of people around the globe who aren't terminally online with her exceptional performance in Wicked. Is she a bad person? I don't think so. She is fallible ... just like the rest of the humans.
There’s no need for damage control. Her movie is a huge hit. They’re promoting somebody who’s doing really well right now. You might need to see a therapist for your lack of being able to get over the unimportant.
