I'm so glad they mentioned cutting to the Gang singing in this episode because it really is one of my favorite gags. The nonchalant harmonizing in their spare time directly after doing something horrible is just so damn funny and they ARE actually really decent singers.
Way back in the day a guy in my high school perpetually hit his neighbor's mailbox with a baseball bat (don't ask me why, everyone was a teenager, there is no logic in those ages) The neighbor got tired of it and filled the mailbox with cement and the kid broke both his forearms from connecting bat to cement box at 35 mph. On the discussion ~36 minutes: I don’t remember immediately falling in love with this show, especially in a pre-streaming era where I mainly caught it as a house cleaner in a few specific houses. I DO remember Mac Kills His Dad and the Nightman Cometh being played so frequently that I actually disliked the show because I could only catch 2 reruns when it was on. Frankly, it feels like you guys survived against the odds of being relatively mishandled your entire tenure. Now, seasons 6-10 really changed how I felt about the show as a whole and cemented me as a long-time fan. So many classic episodes in that middle era.
I also remember hating the show at first, but then had a 180 turn shortly after someone said, "you're not supposed to relate to the main characters." It sounds crazy, but apparently this is a super common experience that they even mention in the podcast. Crazy that's all it takes for some people (myself included) to start "getting it", and it is easily now my favorite "sitcom" of all time. If there isn't a phenomenon named after this, there really should be. I guess it's just called an acquired taste.
i remember the first time i saw sunny. i went over to a friends house at around 10 at night, completely forgetting i had told my parents i would be home around that time, a friend passed me the bong and put on the episode where they find the dumpster baby. i watched abt 10 minutes of it and laughed my ass off but didnt love it, then i fell asleep for 2 hours and my phone died. i still remember driving home around midnight my mom was getting ready to drive around to look for me lmfao and she cut off a piece of my hair when i got home saying she was gonna test it for drugs lmfaoooooo. good times xD
At around 16, they talk about whether or not Charlie Parker did drugs. He did, in fact, do an excessive amount of heroin. He did so much heroin, in fact, that it was believed that heroin made him a better sax player, causing even more jazz musicians to take it, and when he died at 34, before the body was identified, the coroner believed he was 60
I love how charlie and rob talk about fun little pranks they did as kids then glenn just confesses to committing crimes Also, any other Alabamian listeners?
I'm only bummed because we hardly covered the gang goes Jihad.. I was super excited to hear about the video tape scene.. "He's gonna go get a weapon, EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY, get a weapon!"
So the lady Elisa Lam that they were talking about who was found in the hotel water tank actually had history of mental illness such as Bipolar Disorder and depression, and had history of experiencing visual hallucinations, which she had previously been hospitalized for. So in all likelihood she was off her medication (explaining the paranoid and unusual behavior), and either accidentally or intentionally climbed into the water tank.
But wasn't the argument against that was the top of the tank was too heavy for her to lift herself? I'm not saying I believe the ghost shit but I'm certain that I've heard that about the case before
I got my supervisor at work to watch the show and she is now a huge fan. In turn she got me a Patty's shirt for Christmas and introduced me to this podcast. Really loving these.

Loved this episode - the chemistry and authentic genuine friendship that created the show and drives it every day being able to discuss real every day challenges and their relationship in the realest way is what makes this show what it is! They're not 3 hollow people who just show up and get paid - the entire project comes from their hearts, and that's why the show is a success. They always sound like 3 super cool dudes without any ego just creating great work, no BS and I hope they never stop! Love from Ireland x
My favorite thing about this show besides how funny it is, is the enthusiasm with which the characters take to whatever new scheme they launch into each episode. There's a great love of life exhibited by the characters of Always Sunny.

Yknow what, I actually felt that exact same way about my favorite music artist, King Krule, when I first started listening to him in high school. He has a really distinctive English accent that I appreciated way more on the third or fourth time that I sat down to listen to some of his songs, and now years later I love all of his albums.

That’s a very good point by Glenn, when he said that spending time and working with a piece of music to get it has more staying power than an immediately catchy song. That has been true my entire life.

Glenn is completely right about art/music that doesn't catch on immediately and then becomes something that has more staying power rather than the catchy stuff. Once something is new to our brain it has to have time to process the new territory that our minds have been taken to. Thus leading to loving discovery rather than the shortcut.

My childhood hero was Charlie Parker. He was a tortured genius and did SO many drugs in addition to general abuse of his body through poor nutrition and sleep. Heroin addict at around 17 years old (his song "Moose the Mooch" is after his eponymous heroin dealer). Abused red wine later and really anything he could get his hands on. Died of massive organ failure at 34 and was supposedly estimated at 55 years old by the coroner.
This show was among many of the divisive television preferences between my ex and me. She would say "I don't know how you can watch that. It's just people being terrible to one another and everyone else. They're all drunken egomaniacs." "Yes, darling. That is precisely the point. Take Seinfeld and make all of those terrible people FAR worse. Boom. Comedy."

I really enjoy these. Thanks guys
To answer your mailbox smashing hypotheticals.. yes
Wow. Glenn's take on music is exactly how I feel too and it is a weird thing. Songs that I absolutely hated end up becoming my favorite and my favorites are still good but get boring fast.
Can't believe these guys are fans of Imagine Dragons. Watching the show won't be the same anymore.
i’m sure this is how elisa lam wanted to be remembered
I always call Kings of Leon and Imagine Dragons "Theater Kid Music" and so this makes total sense
