  • Men's views of mental health and how they deal with it’ hopes to engage the public in more positive discussions around men’s mental health originally as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2020. Curated by Ilyas Sagar-Ouriaghli, a NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research PhD Student, the film features interviews with five different men of all ages discussing their mental health. Topics covered include race, family, stereotypes, tips to manage their health and the benefits of speaking to others.

This is a good platform. The men's mental health is presented by men themselves.

That's a great thing to have a conversation around. It sounds like small gears are turning. Great idea to look at this important part of our reality.

Wish I could just sit and talk to someone but I find it so hard to put into words everything’s just muddled up together

We ignore it and hope it goes away or we deal with it the best we can. As much as we need to talk and get support, that just isnt the done thing is it? It's also really easy to tell people to talk to someone but when it comes to us talking to someone, it's really hard. I was always brought up to be a "man" and just get on and deal with it...

The only times I feel content within my own self is when I head out to remote wilderness areas in the Scottish highlands, places where there are no people, where you can become one with nature if I could find a way to survive through the winters there I would probably never come back to this overbearing, increasingly Authoritarian Nanny state.
Modern society is designed to crush the human spirit and to keep it down and subservient to global corporate entities that view human beings as resources to be used up and discarded when we no longer serve their purpose.
I'm sure many would not agree with me but it's my perception developed over decades of observation, agree or disagree, makes little difference.

I think this video paints a rosy picture of finding help with charities such as Mind or with the NHS. I have had problems for about 20 years and have been frustrated by the very poor quality, and in some cases dangerous actions of these organisations. I think videos like this will give people a false sense of security. It's very possible that you will horribly mislead by the people that you believe are there to help you, or simply not find the help that you need. Videos like this that make it seem easy to find help are naïve and deeply irresponsible in my opinion.
