Their more unique effects also reflect the flavor text/lore of the normal monsters - Mace: flavor text says enemies love its cuteness, hence why it gets enemies to join its side for a turn. The search it gets may also be it using its key to obtain a card ‘locked away’ in the deck. - Goblin: flavor text/artwork show connection to ‘fake trap’ which protects your traps, hence why it has a protection effect. The 2 cards it sends to gy may represent the 2 kanji letters its always practicing maybe? - Fairywitch: flavor text says she was destined to be a fairy but chose to be a witch, hence why her effect can either conjure a fiend (goblin/ghattic) like witches do, or a fairy (mace) like she was destined to. - Dark Blade: err… his flavor text says he is powerful… hence he pops backrow?? or maybe he controls mementos instead of dragons?? idk - Tatsunootoshigo: Flavor text points out its a bizarre mixture of creatures parts, hence why it destroys a memento into separate creature parts, with larger monsters (higher level) breaking off into more parts. - Tri-horned: name/flavor text/artwork point out its 3 horns, hence why both its effects involve the number 3. Update: - Ghattic: Original name/text says it’s a ghost, so it was undead even before it became a memento, hence why it can revive itself from the GY easily. Perhaps its association to attics is why it can retrieve a card back to the hand; could be seen as taking something from/into an attic for later use maybe? - Mystical Sheep: Can fusion summon because, while it’s based on the sheep #2 vanilla, sheep #1 had an effect that concerned it being treated as fusion material. -Thunder Dragon: Effect to destroy 1 and search 2 is a reference to the fusion having 2 heads and also the original thunder dragon having the effect to discard itself to search 2 copies. Effect to banish opponent’s monsters by battle could be an homage to the thunder dragon archetype’s focus on banishing?
@@8bitdiedieYeah, instead of manipulating Dragons, he manipulates the Memento bones for a summon. He basically goes from a dragon controlling Dark Lord to a Necromancer. My theory on why they destroy themselves: they’re all old normal monsters that built up resentment for not being played. That’s why they’re mementos, echoes of the past and they’re all fighting for the spotlight. And in their mindless race for it, Mementoral uses that to usher in his reign.

So a bit of fun info. Mementoral Tecuhtlica seems to be based on the ancient Aztec deity Mictlāntēcutli, a god of the dead and ruler of Mictlān, the lowest level of the underworld. If you look closely at the artwork of the Memento monsters, you can even see some decidedly mesoamerican inspired patterns in the corners of the card art. I believe what the theme is trying to imply here is that all these old vanilla monsters were condemned to the lowest levels of unplayability hell, where they encountered this ancient deity that gave them new life in the underworld.
An archetype based around literally reviving dead monsters with a giant dracolich is probably the coolest thing ever also them just hard confirming there will be extra deck monsters later is pretty hype

Their end board consists of nothing but a 5K beater, 50% of the time and sometimes not even that! On top of having a basically non-existent end-board, it also dies to a single ash blossom. I have no idea what they need to fix it. It's so fundamentally flawed, I have no idea what Konami were thinking when they designed it.
I'm hoping they use this as a launch pad to get more normal cards that would never see play a rework to put them into other archetypes or completely new ones to help revive the old classics.
Since we’re taking old vanillas and retraining them: Firewing Pegasus, Flame Cerebrus, Mr. Volcano, Flame Champion, and Darkfire Soldier #1 and #2 could all be transformed into a new FIRE Pyro deck, just saying.
I think that it's interesting the past cards get some light in a new look. I've been trying to get Konami to approve the All-eyes archetype I've been working on so it's nice the other cards are now in an archetype that gives them a new outfit.
I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and entertaining videos on yugioh content. I really enjoy watching and listening to your yugioh explained videos and the random jokes you put in them.
I love Tri-Horned Dragon, even found a way to use him in one of my decks involving the Hieratic Archetype. I do enjoy it when they show love to older, less known/more forgotten monsters, though I still prefer my Tri-Horned Dragon with all his organs and skin, thank you very much, lol.
It's likely obvious but I like how each is a retrain of an old card but the archetype name is "Momento" which if I remember correctly is latin for roughly "Remember"
Memento Mace can technically open you up to using Synchro I think. Here me out; you use her effect to nab an opponent's monster, all while having both a tuner on the field, and a copy of the trap card Urgent Tuning. Granted you can only bust out Synchro's with generic materials, however you'll be not only interrupting your opponent by snatching their monster during their turn, you'll also get a monster of your own to either soak up a hit or deter your opponent from attacking.
Tri Horned Dragon was my favorite Secret Rare… until I understood it sucked. I still feel a fondness for it though so I really look forward to building a deck involving my favorite dragon.
Mementoral being the archetypal Metaphys Executioner/ Malefic Truth Dragon; Each Archetypes' monster line-ups being very explicitly retrains/ variants of older monsters, with the mandatory "big final boss monster" that breaks theme to be a new original card. We've had soft confirmed future ED monsters which makes me hopeful for some very old bad fusion retrains. I wouldn't expect Fusionist though specifically because of it's popularity except we got the Dark Blade retrain and that was a classic card in playground format. What I'd really like to see though, is this deck does have ideal theming for getting an alt wincon. The sad part of retrains is always that they often replace the originals or exist completely apart from them, and even when they do rope the original in those cards are plainly bad in the first place so it frankly sucks half the time. Currently Memento's retraining is in the sphere of "basically just a reference" where the normals have nothing to do with the actual deck, but Memento's theme could very well lend itself to a field/ continuous spell that can pop a "Memento" monster you control to summon a normal monster with entirely identical stats (level, type, attribute, atk, def) from at least the deck, ideally from anywhere (hand, deck, GY), along with a win condition when you control 5(?) monsters summoned by this effect. I'm thinking 5 because Exodia and Destiny Board, but 3 would be much less egregious and still line up with say Vennominaga's counters. The idea here obviously being trading out the "Memento" retains for their old "unplayed" originals, where if you don't get rid of them by using them as materials and manage to keep them around long enough to gather a whole field of them they reward you for playing them by literally winning the game for you.
Can you use Memento Bone Back when your memento monsters get destroyed by battle? Cuz is just says "by an opponent's card" not card effects so can you crash one of your monsters to summon the fake dragon?
Once you get mementoral on board you've got optional chaos synergy if you can spare and/or banish recycle the 2 level 1s. Chaos sorcerer or black luster soldier - envoy of the beginning could build in an otk or even ftk possibility. You could also use cards like trap tracks and chaos burst to get faster destruction of mementos to summon mementoral quicker as well as deal 1000+ burn too pushing closer to otk/ftk. 5000(X ?depending on number of opponent's monsters?) + 3000(x2) is more than enough damage to otk the opponent.
I petition that if the Momento Extra Deck Monsters are not lost and forgotten Normal Ritual Monsters like The Masked Beast, Skull Guardian, Zera The Mant, Dokurider and the rest we riot!
main problem with this deck imo is that they are heavily based on GY and destruction effects but they dont do nothing on the GY or when destroyed, because they all destroy monsters for effect.
Memento fire kings. Hybrid Combo done for you. Fire kings don't care what cards are destroyed including their own. Trap tracks, chaos burst, torrential tribute all provide synergy to both add in Black luster soldier - envoy of the beginning and you've got a 3 way synergy; memento + fire kings + chaos. A build that is an otk/ftk machine.
I mean the cards have only physically EXISTED for less than two weeks. Do you mean he should have done this when we only had the previews or that he needs to wait a few years or so per archetype just to be sure they won't get support?
8:24 At least it's captured in the Spell card he appears in. Tatsunootoshigo is my favorite old school vanilla to the point where it's in my phone's keyboard suggestions, so I agree that it's a crime he's not been released here. Though if they do, I worry they'll call him Seahorse...
I personally think the thought behind them is them basically destroying everything they can because they weren’t remembered since they’re shit normal monsters so I think the effects fit under that
If they are going for one monster for each type, there are a lot of monsters that I would like to see that will just not be made because Spellcaster and Fiend are already in the deck (I wouldn't change Fairywitch for nothing though there are various fiends I would've prefered instead of Goblin Calligrapher). For the Winged Beast type I would love to get a Fiend Reflection #2 remake, that would be literally insane, same with Skull Red Bird, though I'm calling it now: it will be Memento Kurama. For Aqua I'm expecting The Furious Sea King or Enchanting Mermaid. For zombie I would absolutely LOVE if they bring back Dark Assailant, though I'm expecting something more popular like Dragon Zombie or Yaranzo. I would love it if they make more of the same types though, it's sad if because Spellcaster, Fiend, Beast, etc. are already taken we can't get things like Gemini Elf, Fusionist, Dark Gray, The Shadow That Controls The Dark, Kuomori Dragon and others remade
Not only is Dark Blade not obscure but they seemed to actually have a Job unlike everyone but Goblin (who was probably replaced by automation) and they worked for another normal monster who is more obscure. Did King of Yamimakai get pissed at Dark Blade? Was 1530 defense the deal breaker to having the King be the Memento instead? Who got custody of the dragons? These are the real questions.
As far as thematics, I believe the idea is that the bones "crumble" and get rearranged into a different shape, which is why a lot of them destroy mementos to get different ones, and then mementoral is all the bones combined.

@@monkfishy6348I guess they knew what they needed lmao
I can't wait for this archetype to come to Master Duel
I'm hoping they use this as a launch pad to get more normal cards that would never see play a rework to put them into other archetypes or completely new ones to help revive the old classics.
In my eyes, the momento popping theme embodies all those scrap normal monsters we used to glue on printed better monsters as we were children
Since we’re taking old vanillas and retraining them: Firewing Pegasus, Flame Cerebrus, Mr. Volcano, Flame Champion, and Darkfire Soldier #1 and #2 could all be transformed into a new FIRE Pyro deck, just saying.
Mementorial Pyre!
0:34 Imagine if they gave Memento retrains to cards like the Itsu, Shining Angel, or an Ojama
21:11 What is this? a new section?
Kinda wish they had some rad vanilla monsters support built in
I think that it's interesting the past cards get some light in a new look. I've been trying to get Konami to approve the All-eyes archetype I've been working on so it's nice the other cards are now in an archetype that gives them a new outfit.
Hear me out, Memento Beaver warrior or, Memento hematoma soul
Ooh a neat theme
Hope they show Beast if Talwar, Sengenjin, Chakra and Performance of Swords
I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work and entertaining videos on yugioh content. I really enjoy watching and listening to your yugioh explained videos and the random jokes you put in them.
I love Tri-Horned Dragon, even found a way to use him in one of my decks involving the Hieratic Archetype. I do enjoy it when they show love to older, less known/more forgotten monsters, though I still prefer my Tri-Horned Dragon with all his organs and skin, thank you very much, lol.
I like how the decks in this set take inspiration from crystal beasts/ ultimate crystals.
TRI-HOOOOOOOOORN YEAAAAAH
It's likely obvious but I like how each is a retrain of an old card but the archetype name is "Momento" which if I remember correctly is latin for roughly "Remember"
wow i am so excited! maybe we will get more support in the future! it is an awesome concept!
As cool as this archetype is, they REALLY made sure it loses to EVERY going second card or handtrap possible.
Because of netherskulls effect that means we’re getting an extra deck memento and more likely than not to tie into the them it has to be fusion
Hoo boy, is it good to be back.
THE BOY, WE HAVE THE BOY!
I like the idea of using the nova scale here
Memento Mace can technically open you up to using Synchro I think.
I say the boss monster is the retrain of 5 headed dragon because of the 5 cards shuffle and the colors of its bones to matches that dragon
I just noticed that u can't spell memento without meme , it's a meme deck confirmed
Tri Horned Dragon was my favorite Secret Rare… until I understood it sucked. I still feel a fondness for it though so I really look forward to building a deck involving my favorite dragon.
Is memeto with unchained+their new support good together?
I wonder how would you make the tri horned dragon archetype?
20:26 This guy has a good sense of humor. XD
Can you use Memento Bone Back when your memento monsters get destroyed by battle? Cuz is just says "by an opponent's card" not card effects so can you crash one of your monsters to summon the fake dragon?
Memento unchained is gonna go brrrrrr
When are they adding Memento Mushroom Man
stained glass of light and dark is fairly good in this deck as it has both a light fairy and a dark fiend...so this can lead to some nice hand control
the only reason why I am going to use this deck is becasue of Dark Blade. HE IS THE DAWG, NOVA!! THE DAWG!!!!
Memento witty phantom
Solitary Sword of poison even if ur t attack goes to 0 it will be forced to go to 10,000
So is netherskull dragon based on 5 headed dragon
I really can’t wait to see these in Master Duel
main problem with this deck imo is that they are heavily based on GY and destruction effects but they dont do nothing on the GY or when destroyed, because they all destroy monsters for effect.
When will my boy machine king get his update
You're doing this... now? They're REALLY likely to get a second wave of support in a few months...
Ok hear me out: Memento The Jam
any update about Memento Kuriboh cousin?
💀 MEMENTO MORI 💀
If only we got memento variants of the ancient elf. I only say this because it was my first ever card way back then
they better do jerry beans man
I personally think the thought behind them is them basically destroying everything they can because they weren’t remembered since they’re shit normal monsters so I think the effects fit under that
the big boss dragon reminds me of the subterror zombie
I hope this isn’t one of those deck that needs floodgates as life support lol
So Question, is Combined Creation a Retrain of Stone D. I saw a Meme about it and thought it wasn't true....
I would love it if they make more of the same types though, it's sad if because Spellcaster, Fiend, Beast, etc. are already taken we can't get things like Gemini Elf, Fusionist, Dark Gray, The Shadow That Controls The Dark, Kuomori Dragon and others remade
to be fair in some cases Wyrm is dragon but one that is extremely old and thus extremely powerful, like the dragons of dnd
This is yugiohs version of Disney’s Coco!! Memento/Remember me ! For I have to say goodbye remember me 😅 💀
This reminds me of Metaphys but for vanillas instead of old Dragons
This is like the first non-waifu archetype deck I'm interested in since blackwings.
I feel dark magician blue eyes red eyes might be used here
I’m hoping to see my favorite card the headless knight become Memento support
C'mon Memento Music King
Not only is Dark Blade not obscure but they seemed to actually have a Job unlike everyone but Goblin (who was probably replaced by automation) and they worked for another normal monster who is more obscure.
Did King of Yamimakai get pissed at Dark Blade? Was 1530 defense the deal breaker to having the King be the Memento instead? Who got custody of the dragons? These are the real questions.
Dark blade isn't forgotten my boy has two unions while most monsters of his time had one
Dark Blade also has a fusion.
@@johnlucas2838 I know I use him and Gaia for rota fun
They look awesome but they seem very vulnerable to Ash and Nib
Yes they are but the new support will make it like R-ACE
How about Mementos Alexandrite Dragon?
Should be a Metaphys or Starry Knight.
I feel like nitemare whould play this deck
Memento Twin Headed Thunder Dragon anyone?
We should start calling non dragon dragon monsters charizards
Two words: "MEMENTO Mori"
You actually can't activate it during the draw phase, Nova.
Waiting for cosmo queen's return..
is it me or they each monster represents the color of the rainbow?
Memento Kamionwizard
Is your pfp a legend of dragoon reference
He has an entire video essay on the channel about how much Legend of Dragoon means to him.
@@badwrongfun5541 oh wow I'll have to check it out it's a pretty good game
